New coaster for SFGADV in 2005

I got my info from a source who works at the park...he sent me an IM about it the other day.

All I know at this point about it is that it'll be steel with multiple inversions & it will not be located in GC,just wait a couple of months & the info will come up on the planning board's website because it's currently not on the approved list of attractions filed in 99.

As for what type of coaster SFGRADV is getting my best bet would be a woodie....they already have every major type of B&M coaster that's currently "in style" (floorless, inverted, hyper, flyer) & SF just doesn't like building stand ups anymore, the only reason SFMM got RR was because of their usual ongoing pi**ing contest with CP.

CP added Mantis in 96 so SFMM just felt compelled to add their own just to say "ha ha our stand up coaster is bigger than yours" & nothing more...notice that after scorcher at SFOG no more stand ups were ever built?

Hasn't it been discussed to death enough over the past four years that SFMM's "ongoing pi**ing contest with CP" just doesn't exist, and is merely a figment of enthusiasts' imaginations?

As for the SFGAdv coaster, while it would be nice to have a woodie (as the park desperately needs a good one), SFGAdv has consistently been a dominantly steel coaster park, having constructed no woodies in the past 25 years. While it's tempting to say that they're going to buck the trend, I just don't see it happening. I also don't think putting an Impulse in Movie Town, right next to (the admittedly still floundering) Batman & Robin: The Chiller is the most practical thing to do. A Wild Mouse would be cool, but not terribly high capacity enough. I think the most reasonable guesses are the Mouse and a Stand-up, but I'd put my (highly unreliable, easily renegable) money on the Mouse...preferably a spinning one.

I would love to see SFGAdv add a wood coaster, but considering that they either a) don't know about wood coaster maintenance or b) don't care about wood coaster maintenance, they are probably better off sticking with steel.

A GCII twister or some kind of GG out-and-back along the lake would be wonderful, but I don't want to see some great new ride built, only to see it become a shell of its former self within a few months. Look at Rolling Thunder and you'll see that wood coasters are not high on SFGAdv's priority list.

A mouse would be nice, but if they do that, they should take the route that Animal Kingdom took and place two rides side-by-side for increased capacity. Then again, the park could be getting an entirely new kind of ride- what about one of those new Vekoma coasters? Or a Gerstlauer spinning coaster?

Move Viper west somewhere and put a Maurer-Sohne spinner in it's place. That's my shot in the dark =)

I dunno. I mean, as much as I would like to see another B&M stand-up, I don't think it will happen. I think theres a good chance it will be a kiddie coaster or a family coaster.

Mouse, spinning Gerstlauer, kiddie, clone of Scorcher, or (just to torment the GAdv homeparkers) a wooden mega-twister...the GS clone makes the most sense due to capacity, but they sure could use another kiddie coaster, even if it's low capacity...

Personally, the best thing they could do is put some effort into restoring RT, but I understand how difficult it is to market a "restored" coaster, esp. when it isn't *historical* like Coney's Cyclone or Rye's Dragon....

How about a restored Rolling Thunder AND a new wood coaster? Knowing SF, they'd market is as THREE new wood coasters!

Good for SFGRADV....but they won't the only SF park on the east coast that'll be seeing a new coaster for the 05 season,at least according to my sources.
????

What other parks, do you know? I'm just very curious because there's been a rumored hyper in store for LR and I just wanna know if you know anything. Thanks for the info!

He's referring to SFA. But he's been claiming SFA is getting a new coaster every year since Batwing was added.
But he's got a source Moosh.

Well if you say it every year, you have to be right eventually :)

Then we get to hear about the one time the guess was correct, not the other 5 it wasn't.

What bountiful news to greet me at lunch time! Surprising that no one mentioned a 4-d yet....so I'll do it

Fate is the path of least resistance.

can anyone close go to the meeting on the 7th?

You do know that you are not in the coaster off season right now, don't you? Going to a city planning meeting to listen to them vaguely approve some portion of roller coaster construction seems like something a small portion of the enthusiast world would do in the offseason, when they can't ride the coasters.

'Tuan.....I gave a passing thought to a 4-D, but S&S is busy building WOODEN rides right now, and we all know GAdv isn't in the market for anything in wood, hehehe....;)

But, along the lines of the 4-D, GAdv *wood not* get one of those until B&M has one "up and running" to show off....;). My very best *guesstimate* for a European Swiss 4-D version is '05, which means the EARLIEST we might see a B&M 4-D in the states should be '06. That means '07 for you people in Joisey, ROFL....:)

As for one in '05? Fuggedaboutit....

Rob A., did you ever get a PM from me? I thought I sent one about 10 days ago, right before leaving for Tejas...

well, this is EXCITING news.

I'm thrilled that my home park is getting a new coaster.

Moosh I took quite alot of heat last night for posting that information in this thread,it turns out that my "source" read what I posted yesterday regarding the plans for a certain park & was really PO'ed about it when he contacted me around 10:30 pm last night.

As is I might be saying too much now & I don't want to offend him any further & I'm now dreading showing up at said park in the future & going on a specific attraction that he'll be working at this season, although at least he doesn't know me personally, just online only.

I think everybody already thought your whole SFA story was full of crap. Now you're overexplaining it and making it worse. *** Edited 6/5/2004 6:19:26 PM UTC by bigboy***
Well looking at the pattern....

All B&M's and I had heard that they had purchased some kind of four coaster deal with them...which could definately be true...

What if B&M decides to take a shot a building wooden coasters! haha...but really, i dont want to take a guess at what this coaster may be...we may all be setting ourselves up for dissappointment...and like get a vekoma bommerang or some crap like that....time will tell....
