Muslims get SFA discount?
As much as I read NewsMax.Com (The Voice of "The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy"... and one of the few counters to the overwhelming Leftist-Socialist mass media), I gotta question some things in this article. But first, to answer a question above, no, NewsMax.Com would not have a problem with a Christian organization doing this... but you can bet that the ACLU and other organizitions certainly would. [end political rant].
The article was very vague, and left out a very important factor.
The article states that the Muslim Comunity of Silver Spring, MD has sponsered this "event". Now, if SFA has said, "let's let all [insert religion here... INCLUDING Christians] in at a 'greatly reduced price' for the day", then that would be a case of discrimination. However... if a certain religious organization decides to buy a bunch of tickets and sell them to members (or even buy out the park entirely), then that is not.

There are a few interesting things about this "news". One, it's not even listed on the SFA calendar of events. Two, there is no mention that on June 15 you can get a discount if you're deaf, on June 22 if you participate in Youth soccer, on June 22-23 if you have a Senior (as in elderly) in your group, on July 15 if you're on a swim team, and August 29 if you are Home Schooled. I guess those events weren't as "newsworthy"!
This is not news. There is no point for the article. It's a poorly written rant, nothing more nothing less. These so-called "authors" have lost all credibility in my sight.
It's writing like this that makes people despise conservatives.

Its just like any group discount. ANY church group or ANY group with the minimum number of people can receive a discount at almost all amusement parks.
This article was written by some racist, bigot, narrow minded, hateful person who has nothing better to do with their meaningless life than to try to cause uneeded trouble.

All that aside... as stated above, while I give more credit to stories on NewsMax.Com than many do here on this site, I will admit that this "article" did little to "report the news" (okay... everyone stop your yelping... as hard as it is to believe, NewsMax does report some news). Rather, it seems to have been written to merely "fan the flames".
Bottom line... I wasn't planning on going to SFA on the 13th of July, so it isn't a concern to me.
Now I have to run... have to turn on my radio... Rush is on and I need to get my daily "marching orders" (after all, you all know that we "conservatives" can not think on our own and all take orders directly from Limbaugh the Great).

Ok, back on topic -- that "article" is absolutely insane. It's that kind of writing that keeps this "moderate" (meaning me) leaning just slightly LEFT of center -- it's easier to agree where there's no blatant racism and paranoia involved.
It's a simple community day, big deal. Kennywood has offered Italian Day, Polish Day, etc. for YEARS with no comments. (Now, admittedly, as far as I remember there's no discounts involved, but that doesn't matter. Jeremy's analogy to CoasterMania is DEAD-ON. A group requested, and got, a deal for a discount. So what?)

Truth be told... if I would travel and go to a park and find that a certain group is getting in for a lesser price, I would not really mind. Now if they would charge a certain group a higher price over and above regular admission, now that is something different. Case in point... tiny little Clementon Park had coupons that you could get at McDonalds for an admission discount and my wife and I got in for a cheaper rate than those who did not have those coupons (I guess this discriminated against people who like to eat healthy who would NEVER EVER go to McDonalds). Everyone was allowed in and no one was being charged extra... it was just that some were getting a discount rate. No one was being denied access to the park because of who they were. Same is true with SFA on this July 13.
You want to talk about true discrimination at a park... a certain southern Ohio park that closes select coasters on select dates so that Premium Pass holders can get ERT. Here you have a certain group of people allowed to do something based on who they are while others are not permitted to do the same thing based on who they are.

Intamin Fan: While I will agree that NewsMax leans way right of center, I would not put it near the category of the vermin that you mentioned. Come to think of it, if you look down through the articles on NewsMax, you will find that it does its fair share of pointing out just how big of wackos / lunatics those groups are.
Jeff: Yeah... don't miss that meeting! (At least those of us on the other side of the fence can get talk radio transcripts and get all of those good subliminal messages drilled into our brains if we miss a broadcast.)

I do have to wonder how they "confirm" that you are in fact a Muslim and eligible for discounted admission....
Remember that innocent Muslims were put under a lot of stress also after the attacks. If they come to the park in droves on the discount day, maybe they'll come back over and over again with their new season passes.
A simple themepark equation:
more people=more revenue=better budget for next year=possible kick-butt ride/s for 2003.
I'm sorry, but when I ride with someone, their politics, national background, sexuality, etc, generally doesn't come up in conversation. We talk about the coaster or flatride, and that's the way it should be.

With the recent information about the person planning to blow up CP. Which was reported to be a hoax..... meaning they were not really planning to go through with it. Do you think that Six Flags was trying to buy themselves some insurance maybe, against some sort of mischief? My guess is that it is just plain old marketing to get more revenue. Get a group of people that may not normally go to the park and maybe they will have fun and come back.
Besides, I'm a Christian. Do I think Christians or any group "Deserve" a discount.....NO WAY. But if the park grants a discount, then go for it. Amusement parks are businesses and are in business for a profit.
Haha Jim Fisher, you have to love Six Flags America Coasterzombies Invasion. Last year's event was a whole lot of fun. Passing the furbie from the back of the train to the front and back again is hilarious. I wonder if anyone has ever dropped it from the lift hill. I think I remember seeing you there, I should have probably said hi. You were with your daughters right? Two or three? Right around my age I think if I remember well. My brain still works Jeff, it is finals week, so I still have to stay sharp. Next week my brain will take a vacation. Anyway, that has got to be one of the worst and most racist articles I have ever seen. I just cannot get over the fact that he said they can change the name from Joker's Jinx to Joker's Jihad!! That is terrible, he did basically say that all Muslims are indeed terrorists. That's like saying all blacks steal or all jews are stingy. Those are such terrible stereotypes and stupid people like that piss me off due to their ignorance. I also want to know how people will verify that they are indeed Muslim. Now, in Maryland, which is where I live, there are many religious groups and there is an extremely big Jewish presence in Silver Spring and Rockville (my home town and yes I am jewish) why not have a big Jewish discount day. This just seems like a case of reverse discrimination to me. If there is a religious discount given on a certain day, then make sure that each religion gets one day too for discounts. So one day for christians protestants, lutherans, catholics (make sure catholics and protestants are seperate days, no conflicts please just kidding), buddhists, muslims, shintoists, and what the hell throw in an atheist day too, haha! I just dont think having a religious day is right unless every religion gets one. I alsojust want to state again that that article was absolute garbage and that man is a huge racist, and should not have said those words. He should print an apology IMO.

I was at the invasion last year with my 2 daughters and probably one of their friends.
I'm sure that SFA would be happy to set up a special day for most organized groups of sufficient size. Their website offers discounts on admission for groups as small as 15 and special arrangements for groups of 75. http://www.sixflags.com/parks/america/GroupInfo/index.html
