Much Needed LOVE Thread: Villain & SFWOA.

Well after starting the Screechin' Eagle topic, I was amazed at how many other people felt that Villain is the only other woodie in OH, that can compare. This thread is just to say thank you to SFWOA, and CCI (R.I.P.) for designing one hell of a great wooden coaster. I personally think that the second hill on Villain is one of the most amazing amounts of air out there. Thank you again Denise and the other designers for making a hugely underrated woodie. Please try to kepp this topic positive to SFWOA and Villain, they need the love after the endless bashing.
I agree that Villain is a good ride, but to make it better, remove those bubbl- err....Trains. Those are the most awful trains I've ever rested my butt in. PTCs are the way to go!

Big Dipper was better in my opinion as well. So was front seat Blue Streak. Darn, there goes the positivity.

I like Villian enough to say it's the best wood at SFWoA, but NOT in all of Ohio (Beast?).

Because of the few times that I visited the park, I have only rode this great ride about 5 or 6 times. I only wish they had more than one train opperation all of the times I went, so that I could have got a few more rides. I would like to be able to remember more about Villian, but all that I really remember is that I liked it a lot-and a wicked turn somewhere durring the middle of the ride at the far end closer to the parks entrance. That turn always hurt me (not bad)because I was unprepaired each time. Ohh yea...the trick track is very unique and memorable.

It probably ranks in my top ten coasters, wood or steel. That's about as positive as I can get.

Uh. Love thread for this POS? When I rode it, it was more than a disappointment. I was expecting something of CCI material, which it is, but does not live up to it. I could go into details about why this ride is so horrible, but I don't want to waste finger energy typing about this ride. Let's just say, I honestly had a better time on Mean Streak. As for The Villain, if any of you think this ride is incredible, you are in dire need of heading out west to ride a REAL CCI, Knott's GhostRider not only eats The Villain for breakfast, but it craps it out in the gutter after it's done with it.
Is it fair to say the love is gone? :-) Count me in as a Villian fan! I don't rate coasters so I can't say too much. But I sure think Villian is the best ride in the park! Of course I love wood!
I think kRaXLeRidAh is confused and dizzy from having Villain rock his world. As good as Ghostrider is, the Villain is just as good. It may of had an off day when he visited, but as much as I ride that coaster, I've never heard the upstops chirp so much on any other coaster. Not even Legend.

Oh...and I was riding Villain recently with Jeff Hammersley(you know...the guy who takes care of the Legend and Raven) and a whole crew from Holiday World, I'll just say that we all agreed how awesome the Villain is. So dude....if you want to tell Mr. Hammersley he's wrong in liking the Villain, be my guest.

Wood - anything else is an imtation

I have to say, it sounds like krax was as let down by Villain as I was by Ghostrider!

I like Villain. It's seen better days, and I hope for a return. It really can give a GREAT ride, especially in the back seat.

As much as it pains me to agree with kRaXLeRidAh, I do. I never got a great ride on Villian and have always wondered what the huzzahs are about. Not to say it's a bad ride, but I'd call it average at best.

Ghostrider was marginally better. It still left me wondering where all the love comes from, but it was certainly above average as far as my woodie experience goes.

To each his own.

I like SFWoA, but Villian is one of the worst CCI's I've ridden. From the awful G-trains to the rampy hills, the only CCI I like less is Boss. Out of 85 woodies ridden Villian ranks at 50, with Boss at 55.

Sorry...no love from Moosh ;)

No love for Villan from the Mooshmeister (or Mooshinator if you perfer), but the whole park gets lots of lovin? Something seems a bit screwy. ;)

I'm the total opposite, Mr. Mooshster. I strongly dislike the park but I've got a bit of a warm spot on my heart for the Villinator. The trains could be Millennium Flyers and the track could use a little grease... but it's a decent ride.

[edit: added a very necessary emoticon. We all know how important those are]

I don't see Villain getting any Millennium Flyers in the near future since they are designed by GCI, am I right?

I've never ridden in Millennium Flyers, but I can't see how a bar in the middle of a person's legs on a woodie can be enjoyable.

MFlyers will not show up on any non-GCI coaster anytime soon. It's just wishful thinking.

Until you ride in an MFlyer you will never understand, RCTfan. Those trains are perfection in every sense of the word.

Just a thought though, we all know GCII do some *expensive* consulting for wooden coasters (and do wonders, or so I hear) so maybe Villain can benifit from some of that.

As for some love, I only rode Villain in 2001, and WOW. What is great about the Villian is the pace. The thing never lets up, and always feels out of control. Gotta give props for that jerk off the first(?) turnaround, and the airtime at so many points during the ride. The trains didn't bother me at all, and didn't feel clunky like PTCs sometimes can.

I have nothing but un-love for Villian. One ride with those awful G-trains was enough to send me packing. On the other hand, Ghostrider at night was a near religious experience. I would liken it to Phoenix at night at PPP. Maybe I just caught it on a good day?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

GoliathKills- the G-trains really aren't all that bad. I think a lot of the problem is the maintainance, or lack thereof.

The G-train on RWB tracks the 2nd half amazingly beautifully. G-trains are decent unless you've got tons of laterals (I'm talking Legend-esque lats)... something Villian doesn't have.

Villian became my favorite wooden coaster immediately upon riding it early last summer. Keep in mind that the extent of my wood had previously consisted of SFMM, PGA, SFMW, and Coaster Thrill Ride in WA. CTR was my number 1, above Roar. It was a John Miller, and I loved it so much, I planned a trip around SRM to ride more of his.

So finally the first day of the big trip happened, which was at WoA. And at the end of the day, my first CCI was number 1, above either of the Millers. The next day was my first trip to PKI; needless to say, Villian dropped a few notches (3 actually).

Then came The Day. It started at SFKK, and after Thunder Run, it dropped again. In the late afternoon, it was time to go to SRM. All I can say is, Villian who?

Next onto IB (a shout-out to Cornball!). Then MA (I'm a big Timbers fan now), CP (3 days) and KW, where John Miller goodness reigns supreme. Villian was nowhere near the top, nor in the running even. But I do like it, and overall, the park as well.

They Live. We Sleep.

I give Villain a ride every time I'm at the park cause I want to like it. Opening day for SFO, it ran like a dream! It was rough, but not too bad, jerky, but not so much it rattled your brain, fast, headchopping, had everything going for it ...

These days, none of that's there. I ride it once so I can remember what it used to be like, but I rarely can remember anything fun about the ride I just took. The tricktrack is like torture, one time I even banged my head off the side of the car it was so violent. I actually brace myself from the top of hill two through it, which kills any enjoyment of hill two.

As far as comparison to Ghostrider? There is none. Ghostrider is perfection in non-GCI coasters (cause GCI is divine and cannot be touched ;) ) and Villain is like the testing ground - where they tried to do Ghostrider, but failed. Villain could be good, and is deserving of a ride every visit for that first hill and the second half after the pseudo-MCBR, but beyond that? Fuhggedabadit.

I only rode Villain twice- two consecutive June days in 2002- but it only took that long to place it in my top 10. I'm not a fan of the trains- I think the person that designed those lap bars and thought that they were a good idea should never be allowed to work in this industry again. But the rest of the ride was very good, as far as I'm concerned... good airtime in a lot of places, and a really sharp roll-over at the top of the lift that made for a fantastic first drop. And despite the fact that the over-built steel structure is ugly as sin, it does create a fantastic effect as you speed through it all!

I'm curious to see if Ghostrider will be as good this summer...

I like Villian myself. In fact I liked Boss too. Maybe I just like those silly G-trains. Both coasters seemed to be very out of control and did a good job of tossing me around the car throughout the ride. Villian had me giggling throughout most of the ride, which means I'm having a great time. My only complaint is the restraint design causes bruising in the leg where there is heavy lateral G's but other than that I can't complain. Wooden coasters are supposed to be out of control and even a bit bumpy.

Certain victory.

I dig villain, although it has lost something from 3 years ago and my first ride. I lost my sunglasses from my pocket on the second hill.

The only thing I dislike about it are the restraints. If you dont sit right your legs take a beating. And the second turaround, which the trains barely crawl around. Other than that it rips.
