MouseZoom, a new sister site to CoasterBuzz, has been launched in a preview mode. The site features the next version of the forum application, still under development, as well as DeepZoom photos. When you view a DeepZoom photo, you can view it full screen, then use your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and see details.
The site will continue in "beta" mode for several weeks while we make tweaks and improvements, and upload more photos. Register for an account in the forums today!

Yeah, I've questioned the value of it myself. Our PC is 6 years old now and prone to weird glitches, so we're probably just going to bite the bullet and get a new system soon anyway. Especially now that MS has gotten past that whole 'Vista' phase. Thanks for the tip on Microsoft Security Essentials. I'll definitely install it -- if not on this PC, then the next one shortly.

You know I'm a Mac fan and all, but I have to say that Win7 is pretty solid (and not just because SteveB signs my checks).

Agreed, Windows 7 is a very solid OS. I have it running on my laptop, desktop and DVR using Media Center. Now watch us cling to Windows 7 like we did to XP for the next 10 years :-P

Darn you, I didn't get one and I'm ticked. I thought me and Google was friends.

I don't use Win7 nearly as much now that I have a Mac, but it runs great on my Mac, and is what Vista should have been. Not only pretty, but highly functional. I don't think I've ever had a crashed app or anything.
I'll definitely upgrate to Win8 when it comes out.
Well, I finally got verified this afternoon. I guess it helps if I checked the right e-mail account of the three I use.
That's what I like to hear. I'm hoping to update the forum by the end of this weekend with a new build, which should be pretty close to having feature parity with the one here. The PM system is the thing most notably missing.

I uploaded a new build of the forum today, and outside of a few admin functions, I think it does everything that this older version does. The biggest part of that is the private messaging, which is finally in place (it's more work than you'd think!). Give it another look:
There are about 80 sign-ups over there, and I'm sure most are people from CB and/or PB. Do some PM'ing to each other. If not, PM me and I'll PM you back. That's the biggest piece to exercise.
Also, text boxes in the forums should turn off the rich text in mobile browsers, which didn't really work. I've tested it on iPhone and Windows Phone 7, so if someone could take a look in Android (click the reply on a thread and make sure that the rich text functions, bold, italic and what not, don't appear), that would be great. Actually, check iPad as well, I think that normally ID's itself as a mobile browser.
Zoom on!

The rich text bar shows up on my Android phone, and also when I touch inside the reply text box, the cursor shows up there but my virtual keyboard never appears.
I was just going to say the same thing. I'm unable to post or reply from mine. I'm running 2.2, Samsung Captivate/Galaxy S, if that matters at all.
Check to see if the browser/phone identifies it as a mobile device. I've read in some places that it does not, by default.

I deployed a refinement today. I'm mostly considering the forum as "done" at this point, but I added the ability to load more posts right in the same page. So for example, if you go here:
http://mousezoom.com/Forums/Topic/spaceship-earth
...scroll to the bottom. Press "load more posts" and the second page will load right there, and the page links will reflect that you're now looking at 1-2. I want to make a "whirly" appear or something so you know that it's loading, but usually it seems pretty fast. Give it a try.

Great feature, Jeff, and it worked almost instantaneously for me. Can't wait to see it here at CoasterBuzz.
Sometimes when I land on the first post on a new page, I have to click back and see what was on the previous page fr context. Are you planning to do that to the top of a page as well, and allow previous pages to be loaded?

In Safari on Snow Leopard, both the "show more" and "show previous" buttons are not working for me.

I just tried it in Safari... no problems here. Do you have any weird settings or stuff turned off?
Travis, go to the second page (before pushing "show more") and you'll see a "show previous" button.

Unless Safari's built-in popup blocker would be stopping it, no. I also have the developer options activated, but I only use those to make certain sites think that I'm using IE or Firefox.

Cool! I should have tried it before I asked, Jeff. I can't wait for the new version to come over here to CoasterBuzz!
