Millenium Force rip off

Volcano has a guy pushing a cart, they pull your stuff over to where the trains unload. Those carts did have a lot of stuff on them, LOL. Everybody likes to carry a pack. Still, paying for a locker is no big deal. They're a good thing to have. IMO, from what I saw @PKD, there weren't all that many lockers, just usually cubbies on the unloading sides of the trains.

Especially going through a few "security checkpoints" at a few parks(not BGW & CP), bags that are not needed slow things down. We don't need much. Zippered pockets are another good thing. When you go to an amusement park, you do know where you're going, it's an amusement park.

One Joe Cool ERT day, some guy decided he wanted to listen to some music on the ride.

I was there that day also (I'm there everyday!), The guy apparently did not put his headphones in a locker and later he came back from the ride wearing them. He got to talk with security the rest of the ERT session.
At some point during the season, you were not allowed to carry bottles in your pockets anymore, presumedly because someone got hit by one.

I was talking about bringing things through the line, not on the ride.  There is a big difference.  No, I would not bring a bag on the ride.  But having to pay them even more money when they could just as easily have a shelf like every other ride?  I mean hey, even at FOF at PKI, where the platforms are a lot farther apart, they have a shelf where the workers put stuff.  It just happens to be right next to the exit lines.  And trust me, the honor system DOES work here, in all my time working there i never had one complaint about anything stolen or missing from those shelves.

Joe, yes I saw him actually take out his headphones on the lifthill, so I flagged security down. I personally don't want to get hit with anything traveling at 93 m.p.h.!

Okay, *IF* it's just a safety/efficiency thing, why dont they do it like @ IOA near Dueling Dragons and The Incredible Hulk Coaster? Near the entrance to both of these rides, there are a set of lockers where one can put their stuff *FOR FREE* for a limited time (30min @ DD, 1hr @ TIHC). That's about the time needed to traverse the queue. If you stay longer, *then* you pay. But hey, why offer something for free when you can charge for it!

quailroberts: what kind of "things" are you referring to? would you not put these elusive "things" into/with your bag that you (as you say) would not bring on the ride? and where are you putting the bag?

Okay guys,

I worked there on MF for two summers now and I will tell you why we don't let anything in line.  First because people will take them on with them and they don't realize what injury it can cause.  I've seen people that come off the ride that gotten hit by things or see things fly just over there head.  It just isn't safe.

To answer your question quailroberts, we don't put anything at unload because we aren't babysitters like Tocci55 said.  We have bigger things to worry about like getting the train sent then having to worry about people trying to bring things on the ride or having us take them over to the unload station.  It would take too long and it would make the line even longer than it already is.  We would also have to worry about people getting mad at us if there stuff is missing when they get off the ride.  I know it says we aren't responsible, but it would get taken out on us.  It just prevents alot of headaches that would happen because of it.  Also it just looks so bad, we would be tripping over things left and right back there if we did that.  The unload station isn't all that big as it is.

As for the free locker issue, I have no clue why CP doesn't do that.  It would save headaches, but they just don't do it like that...

Because free lockers get abused. People store their stuff in them all day long and the punks that come to the parks will take all the lockers/keys. Charging a nominal fee not only takes care of that problem but also makes the park a small amount of extra revenue. If I remember right, Universal had a really cool locker system that expired after a certain amount of time for the MIB attraction. Something like that might work for CP.

MIB at universal studios has an electronic locker system you go to a screen and it takes you through a menu finds a locker and then prints out a receipt with a number to get back into the locker. They are free for the first two hours but after that you have to pay to get your stuff out or the system holds it ransom until you pay. And there are no keys to lose.

Yeah, that's a good idea, but that's more expense and not profit. I'd rather see electronic wait time signs throughout the park at various queues so if you get to Raptor and it says 45 minutes while Magnum says 10, I know where to go.

That actually sounds kind of cool.(Electronic Queue Time Signs) Have it so you can see wait times for any given major ride in the park so you can pick or choose where to go. Have them scattered throughout the park in strategic spots.

I've never been to CP so I can't comment on MF.  most of the parks that I have visited outside of SFGA I went with my mom who doens't like coasters.  I would often give my stuff to her to hold while I rode.  now to clarify what stuff I gave to her.

I usually bring a bookbag with me filled with various things like suveniors, a change of clothes for water rides, or anything else I feel like bringing to the park.  many of my friends also bring bags and there are many women that carry purses.  they have to bring their purses if they want to buy anthing, which is very likely.  so what are they going to do with their purses?  take them on the ride?  pay money to stash them some place for an hour?  that's rediculous.

I like the boxes.  now they can't really be used for rides that have seperate loading and unloading stations, but for most rides they're perfect.  I have my bag in my hand as well as anything else that I or anyone with me wants to leave in the station, cross the train, quickly throw them in the boxes, and make it back to my seat before anyone notices.  I do worry about my restraint being closed without me, but my firends usually stop the ops or else I'm so quick that it isn't a problem.  nothing has ever been stolen, no problems have ever come up.  charging people to store their things is unfair.  while the ops shouldn't be responsible, the park should provide a place to put your things for the 2 minutes that you're on the ride.  it doesn't lower capicaty because most people take their things over to the boxes themselves and are back in the train and fully restrained before the previous train's passangers are out of the station.  I'm not sure if this is true at all parks, but SF ride ops don't allow their coasters to leave the staion if people are still on the unloading platform.  so the capicaty issue isn't an issue.  the free locker system is nice, but it isn't your fault if the ride breaks down and you're in the line for longer than the time alloted.  and, as mentioned, people will abuse it.  handing the ride ops your stuff isn't the best way to deal with your stuff, but when push comes to shove I'd rather have a ride op preoccupied with my stuff for a full thirty seconds (::gasp::) than carry it on the ride with me.  the crew on Hulk wouldn't take my stuff so I almost broke my camera and lost my hat.  heaven forbid that the op throws it in a corner of the station where it won't bother anyone.  in anycase, its better to slow down the thing and keep it safe than to have people get on with their stuff.

I fail to see why you have to pack like you're moving to go to a park. I'm a woman and I have never brought a purse to a park. I can't imagine wanting to carry a bag around all day filled with stuff I may or may not need.

Cargo shorts hold all my junk. Smokes, camera, glasses strap, $.99 rain poncho, wallet, keys.

I'd rather not be bothered with going back and forth to a locker all day.

Yeah, but cargo shorts are the worst thing to happen to fashion since the "fanny pack"...

I carry a lot of SH with me wherever I go. I *usually* end up using most, if not all of it. Just something I've been doing for years.

Oh, and on the separate load/unload stations, there are at least two examples where I've seen this work; OL:FoF and V:TBC. Both have separate load and unload areas and both are able to accommodate 'loose ah-tic-kols' sans lockers. In fact, Volcano: 'Da Blast Coasta' has a set up really similar to Millie.

I don't carry things with me like I'm moving.  I carry things that I might need or that I believe I might need.  I buy those bottles that SF sells that you can get refills in for cheap and I carry it in my bag because I don't want to bother with it hanging from my shorts, getting my shorts wet, and flopping all over the place.  plus, my shorts can't carry a poncho (which I never use) or a change of clothes or anything else besides my wallet and car keys.  I don't mind cargo shorts, but even cargo shorts have their limitations.  I don't see why carrying a bag is such a bad thing.

Get back to me when Volcano or Flight of Fear actually runs anywhere near the theoretical capacity, because I've yet to see it.

My wife and I rarely have anything beyond our passes, ID, some cash and/or credit cards, and perhaps a camera, which fits in my pocket. If I need to change clothes or something, I have clothes in the car. I'm on vacation, I don't need to carry crap around with me all day. Other than insulin or other medical supplies, prove to me you need more, because you don't.

And the book bag thing is crap. That's a new phenomenon because it's trendy, not because it's functional. Five years ago kids didn't bring book bags to parks, malls or anywhere else. Then, around '99, they were everywhere.

All coasters at BGT are like that. there are always stuffed animals and basketballs lining the floor when you get off. Kumba hardly ever has a line anymore.
