Mean Streak

Oooooooooooooohhhhhh, you had to bring it up again, didn't ya? Too funny for TooHostyl. BTW: the slant eyed comment is not politically correct, don't you think? LOL!

There's nothing like a woodie...

was there last week trims were on, i seem to think allot of peeps on this board make stuff up
Texas Giant was easily the biggest disappointment of all time for me. Even my bro who isnt too into coasters thought it was bad. Now, if you want to know a good Summers and Dinn coaster head down to Atlanta and ride GA Cyclone. That ride is insane. I dont know what is up with that thing, but this season the laterals + airtime are incredible. Without those trims, trains would be coming back into the station empty. Which BTW brings me to think it is the only coaster i have ever ridden where the trims are appreciated. Without them, well, it's a scary thought.
Mean Streak was mr 3rd favorite ride at CP when i went last year! Only MF and Mean Streak did i ride twice when i was there. I love woodies, and this one was fun, and long. The wait wasnt bad either. I liek it.
I like the Mean Streak also but i like the BOSS better.

said it before, I'll say it again....D-S coasters are great when "based on" another coaster....Thunder Run, Ga Cyclone, etc. When the collaboration turned to innovation, we ended up with "coaster castration".....

What is the only RC that has been torn down or moved at Cedar Point in the last 30 years? Jumbo Jet and Wildcat.

At CP, yes. But CP's former Wild mouse became VF's Wild Rails...that is, until 1998 after which it was replaced with an Arrow Mad Mouse. Be careful what you wish for.

WOF also bid farewell to their extended Jumbo Jet (ZZ) which was replaced by (gasp!) a Vekoma Boomerang.

Okay, back to lumber.

Crikey, I went on Mean Streak last Sunday and thought it was off the heezie. Maybe they the trims were off, but we flew through the course. I did find it strange that I was the only one applauding tho.....hmmm

-----------------
You're so contagious, you turn ma pages!

I only noticed 2 trims on the first hill, not 3 like the first year they were installed and I've been to the park twice already this year.

MS may not be the extreme thrill ride it looks like it should be, but its still fun to ride. It's like the Racer and Thunderbolt at Kennywood - neither have great airtime, incredible hills, or any of the other "major thrill" elements, but they're still great rides. This is what MS has become.

2Hostyl, I would have to agree with you on that one. I don't think Cedar Fair would be saying "ouch" very much if it had to do all the alleged repairs on the ride if it were running the way it was designed. They don't seem to be hurting for cash, and it may even provide a "return on investment" (I hated that line).

Mean Streak was simply designed poorly. Airtime and lateral g's were sacrificed for a symmetric looking coaster. Standing in the queue area in the middle of Mean Streak (which is never filled), nothing but eye candy can be seen for 360 degrees. The wooden staircase which leads up to the midcourse brake run is especially impressive.

I think Cedar Point has made NO plans to remove it, and I think it's highly unlikely that they ever will. Well, ley me put it another way, there'd be a greater chance of being struck by lightning in a house you won from Ed McMahon.

I agree that CP will never-ever get rid of Mean Streak; it is part of the almighty 15 rollercoaster collection. If any coaster should go it is Corkscrew - that is a total joke at this point, but it counts as a coaster in their collection.

Phil, true that Corkscrew is a waste of a ride, but it is historically relevent and it is a sybol of the Cedar Point midway. I doubt it will ever go.

As far as Mean Streak goes, I was just there. The brakes on the first drop held for what seemed like the ENTIRE drop. LAME. The midcourse brakes bring you to a screeching halt. LAME. The ride is bumpy anyway. LAME.

On the bright side, Magnum was running a bit better than last year and Raptor was running magnificently.

Wicked Twister was having all kinds of mechanical probelems and was shut down two of the three days I was there.

PS - The 3-D handprints in Disaster Transport 3-D queue are cool, but don't waste your dollar!

I've traded in my 2000 Giovanola for a 2002 Arrow X4D :)
My other car is now an Arrow X4D!

I agree that the Corkscrew is a piece of history and adds greatly to the midway. But a B&M floorless could be built on the same land and they could even keep the corkscrews in the same place. Now I know it won't happen, but it just crossed my mind when I was at the point. Anyone else play a little game of what would look good where, while at the point. For instance they could have put WT inside of MS. Not sure about the dimensions, but talk about saving space. That location would also be great for a mouse.

You know Incidentalist you have a great point about a Mouse inside MS - that would get people back to that part of the park and that is exactly the type of coaster they should get too.

Corkscrew is significant and historical, but so was the Corkscrew at Knott's and they didn't think twice about tearing that thing down. I just think CP is so into their coaster count now that they will never get rid of coaster no matter what. I like the Mouse inside MS idea.

As for the Disaster Transport I was lol when you said an extra $1 for that! Who are they kidding?

Phil and Incidentalist - that is an interesting idea. I think there's something to that.....why don't you write Cedar Point with your suggestion?
Great ideas for using up that huge queue space inside Mean Streak! Also would be ideal for 3-4 flat rides.

He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking; can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding.

and when you combine that with CP not exactly bending over backwards on maintenance for it

They know Mean Streak is rough. They gave it 12 full time mechanics. What more do you want them to do? Dinn's daughter learned from her father's larger rides, that is probably why there aren't too many really tall CCIs.

-----------------

Mean Streak is the lamest excuse for a decent wooden roller coaster. For those who claim it to be in your top five, chances are, you've only ridden 2. Mean Streak and Blue Streak. Ugh. Yeah it's beautiful, but why should it stay? It gives a horrible ride. Yeah, Windjammer was beautiful, "but to hell with it!" said Knott's.

Knott's is a lot smaller than the Point, bud!

bah. Texas Giant is the most relentless, beautifuly intense woodies ever. The first drop is stunning, followed by a magnificant sweeping turn, down again, more over banked turns, brakes. For the rest of the ride it's fillend with confortably intense laterals, and towards the end, still has more speed that alot of coasters get off the first drop. Try it at night...
