Mean Streak makeover underway at Cedar Point, no announcement yet

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point's Mean Streak roller coaster, which closed last month, is in the midst of a dramatic makeover that coaster fans say could make it one of the best rides in the park. Steel track appears near the ride, along with Rocky Mountain Construction vehicles.

I highly doubt a photo is going to leak. We were specifically told no cameras and video during the presentation. There were employees in the back of the auditorium watching for cameras. Same thing on the tour for areas we were not allowed to photograph.

Just going to have to wait.

Aren't the pics in this story of the element in question? I've seen plenty more, including one from the opposite side, by searching "mean streak" on Instagram and Twitter.

I am looking forward to riding when it does open.

^^No. The element in the original question is the small airtime hill, or bunny hop between the first drop and the second hill. There is no pic of that.
I think there's something to it, though. On my last visit in the fall I could see ledgers in place along the ground in that vicinity that definitely made a bunny hop. Now whether it was for that first stretch of track, or something on the return, or something in between could not be determined even with my most discerning eye.

Two months, guys. That's all. It'll go by fast, k?

That's what I thought, Rob. No, bigboy, like Mac said, there's an element before that hill that was shown to event attendees.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Got it. I had not read any description of what exactly the event attendees saw on the image.

Sorry, momentary lapse of maturity. Happens occasionally.

Ok, a lot.

You might wanna look up the definition of 'snowflake,' though.

Oh I know, it was a cross forum political jab. Hence the tongue out. :-D.

Ahh, I'm going to have to go ahead and ask you to come in on Sunday, too...

Now if only the three of us that won the bet could get sprig to man up and send us our money/beverages instead of being a douche about it...

I saw that photo of bunny hop just a week or so ago. Can't remember what page I saw it on. It shows the track on it and looks to be only about 6 ft tall or so. That will be crazy!

I don't get why it should take so long, this should be able to be done over a single off-season like giant and cyclone. Now they're going out of their way to keep it secret which is impossible because it's a highly visible ride. What are they playing at? Usually the point is mostly forthcoming about this kind of thing.

"The term is 'amusement park.' An old Earth name for a place where people could go to see and do all sorts of fascinating things." -Spock, Stardate 3025

Texas Giant closed Nov 1 2009 and New Texas Giant opened on Apr 4 2011.
Structural work started right after they closed and the I-Beam track was unveiled in Mar 2010.
So the schedule seems close to being about the same. I suppose you can trim some time for experience gained since then, but I bet each roller coaster remake presents its own challenges.
