Mean Streak makeover underway at Cedar Point, no announcement yet

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point's Mean Streak roller coaster, which closed last month, is in the midst of a dramatic makeover that coaster fans say could make it one of the best rides in the park. Steel track appears near the ride, along with Rocky Mountain Construction vehicles.

That's true. But it seems they are able to say they don't have any projects next year. If they did, don't you think they would have given the same line at IAAPA?

It's not for 2017. It's also not an invert.

Idiots? What makes them idiots?

Because they either can't read or they don't listen. As i said the park made their announcement for their 2017 plans and there's no mention of meanstreak. How can be any more clearer then that.

No, I think some of you are making arguments based on what hasn't been said. I don't care what you heard, there hasn't been a single public announcement by anyone one way or another. That doesn't make anyone an idiot.

Haha it's kinda like the "new" History Channel... There's no evidence that Machu Pichu, Stonehenge, and the Great Pyramids were NOT built by aliens.

But then again, what do I know?

But as you well know, people have connections. What has been said by RMC is that they don't have projects opening in 2017.

I well know a lot of things, not the least of which is to not take anything like "I know because I was told" as any kind of confirmation of anything. If you're right in the end, awesome, a world of cookies awaits. I still wouldn't call anyone an idiot for not taking your unofficial word as gospel.

And I would know... I've made up some crap that the CP fans still think is true.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

Couldn't agree more with Jeff.

I hope a world of cookie awaits for you, Tek, but until an official announcement is made, you can't call some one an idiot for hoping for something. And in the amusement industry, those truly in the know don't talk.

Heck, the "2017 announcements have already been made" argument doesn't hold that much water. TTD was announced in January and I see no reason why they couldn't roll out something like that to get another waive of season pass sales.

It's less about what anyone here has been told and more about what RMC has said to people in interviews at IAAPA though. The company says something and logic points to what they're saying as truth, yet people refuse to believe what the actual company working on the ride is saying.

You mean the company that publicly threw a subcontractor under the bus for the Dollywood ride? Yeah, they're masterful communicators, clearly.

Was that information incorrect? If so, then that argument doesn't apply here. Besides, Dollywood threw Huss under the bus in the exact same way over Timburrrr Tower, so I'm not sure how any of that has anything to do with RMC saying that they have no projects opening in 2017.

But according to cmwein I guess RMC isn't on the know.

For all we know, RMC saying no projects opening in 2017 is just misinformation by RMC because they can't talk about Mean Streak. Until CP makes an announcement, we know nothing official regardless of what was stated by RMC.

More important, will Ripcord open in 2017 or 2018? :)

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

So the people that think the ride is opening in less then 6 months are geniuses? Im will to take any bets for any amount that meanstreak does not open on opening day 2017!
And for the record i believe rmc as i was told they were building the first launch woodie in Tennessee at wicked cyclones media day and guess what opened in dollywood a year later?

This arguement is basically you guys trying to pull a Schrödinger's cat and it isn't. Which, btw, he never meant to be some profound thought experiment.

Granted, some people here have heard from both RMC and the park as far as what's happening and it's fine that people take that with a grain of salt.

But the fact that the park already made a 2017 announcement and the company working in the ride stated a fact is what I'm paying attention to ultimately. But if anyone wants to not believe it feel free.

What about by 29 May 2017? If so, how about a 6-pack of a favorite beverage; not to exceed $20?

As I stated earlier, there are a few factors that will influence the construction. Unless the weather turns really miserable this winter everything else seems to indicate it could be possible to operate on opening day.

At only 437 feet longer then Twisted Colossus, I can not believe that extra footage means an entire extra year to build.

I'd wager $100 that it won't open on any date next year. And it's not due to construction issues either.

Well, the original argument made by someone was that the conversion can't be completed in one off season, which I didn't buy at all.

If the info you have is not construction issues, then why didn't they start construction in Aug. or Sept. of 2017? At the rate this conversion is going, the completed ride would just be sitting through much of the 2017 operating season. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Granted, there have been some drunk RMC workers at local Sandusky bars that have given out little bits of information which I won't repeat here as it was not supposed to be public knowledge, but I hope your source is more reliable than that.

Haha! There has been a good amount of animosity all over the internet over this coaster. I mean, so what if we disagree. None of it matters. Just have a good time!

I thought it would be much longer... especially after the launch section?

Since my crystal ball has a dead battery, and I can't find a replacement, I don't "know" what the finished length of New Mean Streak will be. However, I'm confident that it will not be the exact distance of the Classic Mean Streak. However, since it is likely the original track foundation is being re-used, it can not be significantly different.
