Magnum breaks lift chain

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Magnum broke its chain this morning. As of this evening, the ride is still down and it's not clear how long it will take to get a replacement chain in place.

Lift hills are lift hills in my opinion. They give each coaster its trait. I can promise you that if they made the magnums lift super quiet like MF that you would miss it! It would make the ride strange. It's what makes half the ride people. It gives you a sense of "oh, this won't be a bad ride at all. Very soothing. One minute trip up the hill to look around at the scenic view. It's not there for looks :)

The click clack isn't the train, it's the anti-rollbacks.
I didn't know the Big Dipper caught on fire?
The ride didn't catch on fire, just the control room. I sent a news submission into the Buzz, and hopefully Jeff 'el post it.
Well, I was on Magnum on Saturday, and everything seemed normal. Seemed a little bit more jerky than I had remembered it (Corkscrew jerky) but nothing seemed out of place.

I agree that Arrow lift hills sound bad. I love Raptor and Mantis' smooth as ice lift hills, but as long as it's safe, I'm fine with it.

Magnum's future is ok. Remember how Superman: ROS' chain broke at SFA? That's not going anywhere, and Maggie should'nt either. When I was at CP the wait was no longer than 15 minutes!
Cedar Point is no longer perfect!

That would have been cool to be on the magnum when the chain broke!!!
has the steel phantom chain ever broke?
I don't know but I heard Wild Thing's chain lift broke last year!

Those chains take alot of stress and its bound to happen sooner or later
There is NOTHING like the sound of an ARROW ascending skyward!

P.S...yes they ALL break chains at some point or another. I think SOB's chain will last the longest (IT IS NEVER USED!) :)
Things happen, dont worry. People can get it fixed!

I wonder if Millenium Force has had any problems with its tow cable.

I would have thought that (since its new) the cable would be the most troubleing part of the ride, and so I thought the loop on Son of Beast would be also.

Go figure...
I heard that a train on millennium force stopped about halfway up the hill then went backwards about 20 feet.
Wow,2 coasters in one year.
(Corkscrew and Magnum)
Okay, just got back from cedar point. Magnum is up and running. People said it opened at 2:00 on Tuesday, the say after it broke.
Kudos to CP for being so efficient.
Yeah, Bruce. It's true, and i was on it at the time. After it fell 20 feet, it was slingshoted back up the hill, and at the same time the lapbar popped up! Most people on the ride, including me held on as tight as possible, but 4 idiots thought it was part of the ride, and put there hands up. Then, about 60 feet from the top of the hill, a piece of the track loosend, and the second car got stuck on it, making the train stop. The 4 with thier hands up were launched into the air about 40 feet, then fell to thier death! The train then rolled backwards before hitting a shocked ride operater, morronically standing on the track, inside of the station. The train seemed to be going about 80 mph, before it hit the magnetic brakes going backwords. Going the wrong way, and all, it caused the trains wheels to loosen. The train was hurled about 30 feet in the air, before landing on about 20 people in line, killing them. Luckely, the train landed right side up, giving 6 survivors, including me, a hard hit. Many had broken bones, and other injuries. The Park Manager was already there when ride operators helped us out. For the "small" problems we faced, he gave us each 2 season passes, good for any year. I thought, "Yeah right I ain't comming back!" I took out a lighter and lit my passes on fire. After I dropped the tickets, it caught fire on a tree. The fire kept spreading, burning and melting rides as it went. Cedar Point no longer exists.
you idiot none of that happened. you are the biggest retard. I asked CP about that and it never happened I have a friend that works there.
