Factory farming - A system of LIVESTOCK farming in which animals are kept indoors throughout the greater part of their lives in conditions of very restricted mobility.
From previously cited article:
Using a methodology that considers the entire commodity chain, it estimates that LIVESTOCK are responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, a bigger share than that of transport.

I'm well aware of what factory farming is, and that article was not talking about the affects of factory farming. It was discussing livestock and their affect on the enviroment. The raising of livestock doesn't automatically imply factory farming.
Also, according to the facts presented in the article, factory farming would be a good thing because a large portion of the land that is displaced by livestock is for grazing land. Eliminating their ability to graze would eliminate the need to have land set aside for it.
I continue to eat meat (for now at least), but I do respect the fact that 6.3+billion people on the planet can do a lot of devastation. The more meat people eat, and the more people there are, the more vegatation is needed to sustain them. Meat requires unbelievable amounts of vegetation and water to produce. FWIW, beef consumes more resources to produce, pound for pound, than pork or chicken. Literally tons of feed and thousands of gallons of water are used to produce a cow or a pig. Ecologically speaking, the wastefulness of meat consumption is exceptionally hard on the planet. Petrochemicals and energy use involved in fertilizer production alone is staggering.
We can keep going...for now. But like the oil situation, there WILL be an endpoint. Humans are conditioned to think in terms of their individual lifespan. The planet will go on after we're all turned back into (natural) fertilizer.
OK, flame away....from your Hummers! :)
Perspective.
There's a huge difference between being against dogfighting and being totally against any animals being captive even if it's for education or companionship.
I'd imagine the Sea World animals, as well as zoo animals, are in general treated exceptionally well.
Not everyone can afford a trip to Africa to experience elephants and lions in their natural habitat. Not everyone can go out to sea on a whale watch. I think having these animals in places like Sea World and in Zoos does way more for peoples' feelings for animals than PETA ever has.
Hi
If you want to get technical, plants are living organisms too. Who's to say they don't feel pain or a loss of dignity when we yank off their reproductive parts for food?

Again, why wouldn't you want attention for your cause and organization??

Good idea. How bout we start that here by minimizing the ignorant comments.
