Locations that could use an amusement park

Oakland Michigan.....Where the Richest County in the world but dont have a amusement park! They need to stop building houses. In detroit they need a Amusement park on Belle Isle. I can see another Cedar Point there.....hmmm.
Lexington, Ky. Since Joyland burned down in 1962 the city has needed a major park, and has a population of 400,000 with another 200,000 in the area.

Syracuse NY - the closest is sfdl (3+hours). Right in my town they are making a new town center where a old mall used to be. Right between that piece of land and the main road a impulse would be great. :) But it would still be awesome because if they didn't there would be a GREAT Haunted house in october.
Areas with a large enough population that are really lacking are Phoenix, San Diego, Miami, and Long Island. Long Island would never happen though. It's an overpopulated traffic nightmare already. With land values what they are, nobody would ever invest in a theme park now.
Sea World of California will be moving along with its 190 million expansion plan very soon. they plan on building a splashdown ride (journey to atlantis), a hotel, a new entrance facility, a new education building, and a parking structure. they will also be allowed to build above 160 feet for like .44 acres~.25% of their land. they will build from 90 to 160 feet on 2cres. as the height decreases, the land area increases. this new master plan will guide them for the next 3 decades.

Singapore!!! ACK!! Singapore

Six Flags NC would be interesting. Raleigh and Greensboro aren't too far away from PKD and Carowinds, but I can see where they could support a park closer to them.

It'd be cool for me if they built that, even though I probably wouldn't drive up there that much - if it were near Raleigh, it'd be about the same distance as SFOG, so I'd still spend the majority of my time at Carowinds. But there'd be new stuff to ride within a reasonable driving distance, and I'd think that'd push Paramount to put some money / big rides into Carowinds to compete. A win-win situation hehe

You're locked and ready to fly!

Clearly the northest is the most needy. But then the NY region is thin (but does have some places to go for a ride or two). I thought that central North Carolina seemed lacking (plus they get great weather).

But despite all of the moans and groans, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put one just north of Columbus, Ohio. It would tie PKI in the CP, WOA, Kennywood line. It would be less than two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and West Virginia. But then it isn't a location that is in most need of a new park :)

Someone, way some time back when this thread was first created, posted that Miami didn't need an amusement park because of the Orlando theme business. A bit of geography and business sense are in order here.

First, the six Orlando area theme parks are each in the list of the country's Top Ten most attended parks. Clearly, the cannibalization has been more myth than reality.

Second, the South Florida area to Orlando is a 3-4 hour drive. Regional parks are defined as day trips within a 100-150 mile radius -- Miami and even Ft. Lauderdale are closer to 200 miles away.

Third, while there are seven theme parks in the Central Florida area, the closest traditional amusement park would be in the panhandle (Panama City) or across the Georgian border. In both cases, you're talking 6-7 hours of driving away.

Fourth, South Florida is money. The per capita income is higher in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties than the rest of the state -- including, naturally, Orange and Osceola County. You also have one of the most active international airports due to Miami's location as a gateway to South America, the Canadian snowbirds and the visiting children and grandchildren from the retirees living on the beach high-rises.

Fifth, the demand is there. Last year, in just two weeks and a half, the Dade County Youth Fair (now simply, The Fair) drew 852,772 in attendance over the course of its 2 1/2 week run. This is during the school year (spring break, traditionally breaks over the very last weekend of the fair). Prorate that amount over the course of the year and it would be 20 million. Unrealistic, sure, but just a fifth of that kind of attendance (with the POP guest paying $22 a head) would make the park a financial success.

Sixth, I've rambled plenty.

There is this place called Clarendon, Arkansas. It is located an hour from Little Rock, an hour from Memphis. It would be the perfect location. The ground is flat. There are people living in the area who would jump at the chance for the job. Did I mention I live in Clarendon! *Evil Grin*

Actually I think Eastern Oklahoma needs something more than Bells. You could pull in a lot of people from Southern Kansas. Southwest Missouri, and Northwest Arkansas with a medium size park in Tulsa. Because the only park in Kansas is Joyland. In southern Missouri you have Silver Dollar City and in Arkansas there is just Magic Springs.

There is a park in the works for Central Indiana. It's called Moss Pier, and is looking for investors. It's just in the planning phases, and Moss wants it to be open year round.

You can find out more about it on the Moss Pier forum of www.thrillspot.com

I'd still be up for donating the land. We might move pretty soon anyway. The only problem is that are 2 train tracks splitting the property...nothing an arching bridge wouldn't fix! :)

Well, since Oklahoma and Washington both have two brand new parks coming, I wouldn't complain about those states.
New York City!!!

LONG ISLAND..

what happened to that amusement park that was suppose to come to Long Island..? Didnt work out? respond~!

yeah! what about long island? how about we take out that Splish Splash out in Riverhead and put up somethin worth going to. There is a ton of land out there with nothin going on. but then again traffic here is bad enough and that will probably make it 80 times worse.

Take out Splish Splash?!! Are you nuts?!! Splish Splash is only the largest and best water park on the east coast!!! Why don't you just stick with Santa's Workshop and be happy!!!

Omaha, definately! The closest park is about one and a half to two hour drive to Adventureland and all they have (worth going for) is Outlaw! Then there is the four hour drive to Kansas City for WOF.

BTW, any more news on the proposed Omaha park? I haven't seen anything on the news at all.
