Lightnin' to longer strike at PGA

Within the next few weeks, Paramount's Great America's legendary Schwarzkopf shuttle-loop coaster, Greased Lightnin' will be dismantled. It is currently unknown as to what ride will replace it in the near future. For "proof," check out:[url]www.physicsday.org and the park's official map.

As much as this is sad, many of us heard this rumor towards the end of the 2002 operating season. Unfortunetly, this rumor became a reality.

Check out [url]www.greatamericanthrills.com For complete coverage of these events.

No!,another shuttle loop dieing, We at the CPC will try to save it too.

NOOOOO!!!! I can't believe that. This is very sad news. I loved Tidal Wave...er I mean Greased Lightnin', and it was always a great ride to just sit on all day long. This really sucks. First Whizzer, now this.

And to think that so many people worked so hard to organize it's 25th ANV. this past summer.

Anton's son bought the ride. It will be moved to Europe. This is a sad day for coaster fans.

Don't forget though Greezed Lightnin' is coming to SFKK this year - at least we can ease the pain of the loss of one classic shuttle with the resurrection of another classic.

I felt disappointed though because I went to Louisville last Saturday for the Styx concert at Freedom Hall and drove by, couldn't see anything vertical. However, I could see the footers being placed along the main KFEC road, on the entrance side of the park. But I guess since it's a small Schwarzkopf shuttle, it should take little time to assemble...

Grrr. I was planning a trip to Great America and I want my shuttle looper. I had *the* best time on Viper at Six Flags over Georgia two years ago, and I really was looking forward to reliving that.

Well there's always a park in Gurnee, Illinois where Greased Lightnin' is welcome ;-)

Ah, too bad the closet shuttle is in Kentucky :( I'd really like to ride one. Maybe they could send PGA's over to Hershey ;)

Emerging from the ashes of Eric 013...

Yikes we finally get one back and now we have to lose the other one :( From a trip last year to PGA I can just about say it was the highlight of the park. It initially seems like a horrible move for the park, however I'm sure there is a reason. Parks don't make these decisions on a whim.

Hershey already has a shuttle called Sidewinder. It's one of the nicer Vekoma boomerangs.

I can't believe you just used "nice" and "Vekoma Boomerang" in the same sentence! Just kidding, I'm not bashing boomerangs, those just aren't 2 words I would use in the same sentence. Feel free though if you like...

Can't say I'm surprised. Big corporate parks don't have time for old maintaince nightmares. New ones (Xcelarator, X) are fine, because they're big, loopy, the public likes them, but an old shuttle loop, as fun as it may be, isn't a big draw anymore. I hope this one finds a good home...

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

What are they going to do with my model? AUUUUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! All that work for nothing. :( This isn't a surprise, but after all that park has done for the ride, I can't see it leaving just yet. I'm just glad that MY Tidal Wave is now within 3 hours from me! Thank you SFKK....would you like a slightly dusty model? I'll even repaint it for ya! LOL

I would highly suggest contacting the park to see what they're going to do with it. If they're not going to use it at all (which is, obviously, highly likely), then I'd definetly ask for it back. Do it soon, before they just throw it out.

Where do you get this info from? This is the first thing I hear about it.

I doubt that Wieland is in the financial situation to buy this coaster. And what should he do with it? He is busy covering up his losses from the new coaster car/restraint flop.

The "Robocoaster" seems to go nowhere too.

I highly doubt this info.

Man, this really blows wads. There were two shuttle loops in the US, now only one is left. Brad, I saw your model of Tidal Wave up close and it is a fantastic worok of art! I thought the way they were celebrating it's birthday that it was going to stay around for a while. SfKK is only 4 hours from me, so I guess I had better head over there before they get rid of that classic. Tidal Wave is one of the best, funnest rides. Ride it while you can, because if PGA is getting rid of their ride, I would be willing to bet in another five years that SFKK will get rid of their ride. I hope like hell it does'nt happen but who knows. Maybe if everyone let's the park know they love this ride so much, maybe they will save it like SFGAM did with Whizzer. Try it, it's worth a shot.

Miss coastergames.net? Here is a good site.
