Group,
Just got back from LeSourdsville. I confrmed with GR that the halloween event has been cancelled, and the final operating day is Sept. 29.
I'm not going to comment further on the particularly awful day I had there till my anger calms down.

It tastes like burning.
Was there any particular reason that they gave you? Lack of employees, too much capital expense to justify it? It just seems odd that they'd announce it and cancel it so soon.
If it meant furthering the park's debt, then maybe they're better off not doing it until they're on better financial footing. Whatever it takes to keep the place open, I'm okay with.

Personally, with all of the up and down in the last two years, I'm surprised that they ever opened at all.

Last night, since I'm sure you're all wondering:
I arrived to find the following list of rides closed, please note that LeSourdsville has no ride closings board, and instead lets you purchase a ride bracelet and then find out:
Flying Skooters, Whip, Skipper's Wharf, Speedway, Giant Slide, Belle of LeSourdsville, Tip Top, Electric Rainbow, Liberty Train, Wind Rider, Raging Thunder Log Flume, Scrambler, Rock-O-Plane, and the Swimming Pool. I did not check the rides in Kid's World.
Of the 23 rides for those over 54", only 10 were open.
Two staff members stationed near the Liberty Train station were very rude in how they handled guests, to the point of being dishonest and flatly uncaring. The people in the Guest Relations office were clueless and gave a "Well, yeah we've been getting a lot of complaints from irate guests saying the rides are closed........" One common denominator is that whenever anybody asked to see a manager, they were told they weren't at the park. Further hear-say that I got while talking with some other irate guests is that the park totally blew off their group picnic outing and all they got was a "We're sorry, but there's nothing we can do about it"
I've been to that park four times this year, and sneak preview weekend I could understand the lack of rides and all, July 4 and Screech Fest the park did a fine job. This weekend, however, they did a horrible job and put forth a "We've already got your money!" attitude. What I was angry about the most is that the park, or at least the un-empowered GR office KNEW there was a serious problem, continued to sell tickets without posting any kind of warning, and did NOTHING to either correct the problem, nor do anything to minimize the PR damage. (i.e: extended hours, free return tickets, refunds, a sincere apology, not even a free soft drink or two)
As my Mom said "They're not going to last long"
I know its a traveling carnival operation, but they need to understand that the rules are different for what people expect out of a fixed site amusement park. It's an entirely different kind of amusement venue, altogether.
Now I got my money's worth in a wristband/ride ticket objective study, but did I feel satisfied or have my expectations met, thats a big NO.

Now come on...yes, it was a bad day at the park but predicting its demise is a wee-bit premature.

I have e-mailed them for further conformation. Somehow I doubt it. Halloween is a big even around these parts. Lots of independant haunted stuff going on. Since I live just down the road from lesourdsville I highly doubt that they would can the event. WAY TO much money to be made.

Its easy to be objective to my home park(S). Good bad and ugly its all there. Small or big. coporate or privately owned its all the same to me.
Jerry Couch the owner, whom we are leasing the park from is no longer letting us have the Halloween Fest. We are just as disappointed as you are. Sorry for any inconveinence this has caused. However, next year we are hoping that we will be able to do the Halloween Fest. Next year we will have had more time to plan everything out and it will be better than anticipated. Thanks for the e-mail

I don't buy that. Leases are contracts. Either they had the right to do it in the first place or they didn't. You don't just wake up in the morning and say, "I changed my mind, forget the contract."

True, Jeff. However the contract for the Pughs to run the park might never have included a Halloween event in the first place. If the park we seeing more business than Mr Couch or the Pughs had anticipated a Halloween event could have been an afterthought.

I agree, but working for a family business (not a very good one), they tend to make decisions without considering everyone and everything involved, then have to go back on their word. Wouldn't surprise me if this is just such an occassion.
