Lack of Cedar Point TR's

Good point -- Lots of flats at CP. The coasters get the attention but there is so much else there as well.

With that being said, I am a little worried with the removal of WWL, and some people are saying the antique cars might go....

How ironic... aside from coasters, two types of rides my wife and I always try to ride are flumes and antique car rides. Certain other types of rides we may or may not ride, depending on how the mood strikes us... but Antique Cars and Flumes are ususally a "must ride" for us.

CP has two antique car rides, one in Frontier Town and one on the main midway. Although it's possible the Frontier town ride COULD go away, I don't think it will. I still find it laughable all the youngsters who are insisting CP's project 2007 is going to be humongous and take up more space than is currently prepared. Just my opinion there.

I will also miss WWL, just like I miss the fun house, Earthquake, the aquarium, and Fascination. Heck, I miss the Jumbo Jet. I also miss Boblo Island, Edgewater Park and Walled Lake.

Until 1992, I didn't realize there were as many other parks available, and since then I have barely scratched the surface of different park experiences because of budget and time constraints.

But as I experience other parks, I certainly hope I don't find myself "jaded" against the one park I've literally grown up with for 40 years. So long as I keep my nostalgic memories, the magic will always be there for me.

Hey Tambo; Just a comment.

I invitied my brother on a couple of recent Cedar Point visits. He is not a coaster enthusiast. I have also taken him along to six flags great america, and Michigan's Adventure.

Out of all of the parks we went to. He liked Great America the best. Followed by Michigan's Adventure. he did like Cedar Point, but, felt that the long lines, and, Mean Streak, made him decide that he did not want to go back to Cedar Point again.

The last time we went, we were there from open until close. And, we only went on 7 rides, because we spent alomost the entire day waiting in line.

Cedar Point can be done without long lines. You can't expect to roll in mid-summer and expect the place to be empty.

I can guarantee that I, and many others, could have went that day and rode all the coasters and some if I was there from O-C. It's not rocket science, just common sense.

CP has become pretty popular, especially in the last decade or so. Management have turned the place in the resort and it seems to be working well. I think the 'long lines' are because of the park's popularity. When you combine that with rides that a good part of the GP likes, e.g MF, well what else do you expect?

Anyone else think of other parks with such great physical settings?

Pretty much anything located on the ocean. That includes the Jersey shore, Myrtle Beach, Mission Beach and Santa Cruz. Indiana Beach- located in the middle of a lake- has a great setting. Actually, pretty much any park that manages to be located on the shore of a lake manages to be pretty in its own way.

Maybe Cedar Point is more than just a coaster park but the way the park markets itself, it's hard to see it as anything else. How many times have you been to a far-off amusement park and caught the ear of another park guest with a conversation about coasters and they immediately ask if you've ridden such-and-such ride at that "park in Ohio". People don't always know the name of the place but they certainly know what its about.

Cedar Point lacks good flat rides. When was the last time they added one that wasn't a giant frisbee? Cedar Downs is a nice touch but pretty much everything else in that department is pretty common to amusement parks and fairs. There are no darkrides of any kind, and log flumes have a habit of being removed for- you guessed it- roller coasters. Cedar Point is good at the whole "coaster resort" thing but everything else seems like an afterthought and their marketing does nothing to change that perception.

I went to Cedar Point this year in early July and I thought it wasn't as good as going in late august. Only becuase their was more people. But TTD kept breaking down but I still rode 3 times. Skyhawk and MaXair are really good rides. And if you complain about how rough a wooden coaster is then your stupid because its supposed to be rough its not gonna be as smooth as TTD or MF.
I had a great time when I went.
I wish I had a second screen name so I could respond to myself. Think Peabody2 is too obvious?

I have been going to Cedar point almost every year since 1991. The only years I have missed are 2004 and 2005. I have gone to the park all months, and, almost every time I have gone there are 2 hour lines at the coasters. Here are some my records from the longest wait to the shortest record.

Mean Streak record: 3 hours! (1991)

M-Force record: 2 hours 45 minutes

Magnum record: 2 hours 30 minutes

Raptor record: 2 hours 15 minutes (maybe longer)

Mantis Record: 1 hour and 45 minutes

Disaster transport: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Geminin: 1 hour 15 minutes

Corkscrew: 1 hour

Wicked Twister: 45 minutes

Blue streak: 45 minutes

Iron Dragon: 45 minutes

Wildcat: 45 minutes

Mine Ride: 35 minutes

Other:

Power Tower 45 minutes. (Upward launch)

Power Tower 30 minutes: (downward launch)

I won't even discuss the lines for Thunder Canyon. because the line is allways too long.

I think Snake River Falls is the only major attraction in the park that has less than a 15 minute wait.

And, I am not making these Que times up. I have spent plenty of hours standing in line at Cedar Point.

In fact, when disaster transport used to be a regular bobsled coaster. (avalanche?) I waited in line for 2 hours and 45 minutes in 1985 and got one hell of a sunburn.

I didn't do it! I swear!!

Umm... congrats?

I hear using lots of numbers in your SN makes it harder for people to figure out...

Me2!

Me10495!

See? :)

Many of the CP coasters had extremely long lines when they were new but the lines became shorter as other coasters were built and became the new thing to ride. Today, MF, TTD and in some cases Raptor get the long lines but other coasters such as Gemini and Maggie eat up the lines quite well.

2hr 45min wait... Saturdays suck at every amusement park in the world. Reminds me of waiting 1.5hrs for friggin Drop Zone at CFCar its first year. Or two for Vortex. Ugh.

I never ever ever do Saturdays and infact, will pass up an opportunity to go to a park on a Saturday unless it's all expenses paid. I'm too old for 3hr lines.

VG: If your too old then I must be ancient (and RGW is pre-historic ;)). I'm not a big fan of lines, but I cetainly dont think that I am too old for them yet. In fact, the longest (relatively recent) wait I had was a 2hr+ line in 2002 and it was perhaps the highlight of the day. Of course, that *was* at HersheyPark and I *was* waiting in line for Roller Soaker so...

However, I *do* believe that I'm too rich to wait in lines so I purchase Flash Passes! :)
