Burger King's is just....meh. Wendy's are better. Jack in the Box's fries are just........wrong. Yuck.
Although I love Steak N Shake, their fries are WAY too skinny and kind of bland. Now the Outback has the best of them all......big huge STEAK fries, er, chips. :-P

Moosh and other unimpressed ones: The first time I had them was during Phantom Fright Nites, and they sucked. I had Fries, chicken, and cheese on my last visit, and it was extremely good. Nothing like the first time.
CP's fries don't compare, because it is a totally different exp. with the seasoning and all :).
I think Fright nights, because they close down the section of the T-Bolt and Patch Fries they move the stand to where the Pirate ship is. It just isn't right, they are down right gross. They were cold and soggy. During the season anytime during a given day they are totally yummy. Even with the yummy chicken strips.
You can't beat it for the price! ;-)

I dunno, I guess I shoulda tried them again. The line was way outta control (like 40 people deep in both lines) at the one next to the Turtles last month. I just couldn't see waiting that long for fries. I think there were more people in line for the fries than there were for Phantom.
I'll try them again from the Main Patch place. I love cheese fries. *** Edited 7/7/2005 3:14:29 PM UTC by Homey G.***
If you go right to the fresh cut fries main shop in the 50's area, you get the fries cut and made right there in front of you. They pile on a healthy portion, and you can add chilli, cheese, among others I'll detail another time. Prices are from 3.75 to 3.99, add chilli for a 1.00. all other toppings are within the first prices. Anyway they are great, nice crispy fries and taste great.
Now, if you go to the area of say, Boardwalk fries, they are the same fries. However they must be frozen at the shop and sent to the fresh cut frie locations in the park, because they seem Soggy as you said about KW's fries when they had that stand serving them. The prices for those however are 2.75 to 2.99 add chilli for a dollar. All other toppings included in original price. They give you the same amount, for less, but quality lacks. They are best right at the main fresh cut location.
Can't wait to try some fresh cut KW fries. I guess I'm gonna head up there for a few hours with my Fiancee' in the next week or so, not sure yet. I know 1 thing, I love garfield's nightmare! I like KW, but GL will always be my Home.

Both places should offer mayo, pizza sauce, mozzarela cheese, and ranch dressing as a side item as well.
The Potato Patch at Idlewild has the ranch dressing, at least... (shared condiment stand)

"You seem healthy. So much for voodoo."
Then again, here in this section of central PA the big name in french fries is Brickers. You can find them at some locations in Hersheypark (as well as GIANT Center next door).
But nothing... NOTHING... compares to Thrashers French Fries near the lower end of the boardwalk in Ocean City MD (not to be confused with the franchised Boardwalk Fries)! And the Thrasher's folks KNOW what is supposed to be put on french fries. You don't ruin your fries with cheese or gravy... and the last time we were there they didn't even have ketchup sitting out to put on them. All they had were many bottles of vinegar and lots of salt shakers!
Oh, and speaking of vinegar... not sure if it has changed since our last visit... but please tell the folks at Kennywood (and perhaps in Pittsburgh are in general), that white vinegar should NEVER touch french fries... that its actually more of a cleaning fluid than it is a food toping. You need REAL viengar for your fries... apple cider vinegar!
And, yes, the fries need to be crunchy and crisp. Only after they have soaked up a few ounces of good apple cider vinegar and finely flavored with disolved salt is it acceptable that they be a bit soggy.
Okay... thats it for me for now.
I'm going to lunch....

Oh, and long lines means the fryers are working double-time, cooling the oil...cooler oil soaks INTO the potatoes, leaving them....soggy. Go when there's no lines and the potatoes will be crispy and golden-brown...might I suggest "breakfast fries"? ;)
bill, thought only Europeans put mayo on fries...what do I know, LOL...
Maybe the difference between PP fries and normal operating hours fries is that some are fresh cut and some are frozen.
My friend who owns the food distribution business tells me that Kennywood buys their fries from him, and that they are frozen.
His businesss is extremely large though, so maybe he's mistaken. I'm going to ask him again via e-mail sometime today.
I know that some Great Potato Company store's fries are fresh cut and some store's are frozen, and they seem to taste very similar. So maybe sometimes KW's fries are fresh, and sometimes they are frozen.
This is just to annoy Bill and Jim. LOL!

I am not much of a vinegar person but I will have to try that sometime. Sounds interesting!
I always get the Potato Patch fries and CP's Potato Works fries within the first hour of opening, so I am used to the freshest.
I am a chili person but I didn't find Geauga Lake's chili cheese fries to die for. :-)
SFLAKE,
Thrashers sounds absolutely AWESOME! I will have to try that sometime!
Katie, YOU SUCK! ;-) Stop teasing us! Between you and Bill and your cheese fries with bacon bits I am DYING!

The Potato Patch fries I had this time were definitly hand cut, and just fried. And they were great. The others, I'm sure, were the store bought Kennywood Fries...
I agree about the Chilli cheese fries, but if you get just the cheese fry, They are really good. The chilli is good, it's just obvious that it's a premade type of chlli. thats all. If it had some fresh made chilli it would be excellent. *** Edited 7/7/2005 10:43:33 PM UTC by lakecrystal***
The sheetz that sells "Fryz" is a good 20 minute drive from my place, and I am thinking about going right now. I would pass 2 Sheetz stores on the way that do not sell "Fryz"...
...And all because yall can't stop talking about fries.
