Paramount's Kings Dominion announced today their 2003 attraction: A 305-foot tall Intamin gyro-drop. The ride has not yet been named, but will open next spring. The Scrambler will be relocated to accomodate the new ride.
Update 6/21: The park today gave the following additional details:
where's that picture from?

"Enjoy your record-breaking ride on Millennium Force"
Though I am questioning if this will be the tallest since pki's is 315 feet tall, that is why I am wondering if this could be a taller version of acrophobia, which if this is the case would then give it some kind of record, and would add to the thrill factor of the ride. Either way many vistors to pkd will be pleased next year!
I can almost for certain say this will be called drop zone! *** This post was edited by coasterspaz on 6/20/2002. ***
What I don't understand is why Paramount announces these rides so early, giving the competition (SFA, BGW) a chance to come up with something better.
Other parks can't just 'come up' with something. Future attractions are planned years in advance.

Valleyfair Security 2002! 8Years working at Valleyfair :)! Something big is coming for Valleyfair in 2003! Wild Thing Laps: 130.
Perhaps they waited for the smoke to clear when the one in California lost a rider....
Hopefully, we will see another flat ride along with it.
man, this is SAWEET!!!! PKD never dissapoints....im so proud to have her as my home park:) cant wait to ride this thing!!! :)
Tim (hey, if we cant get a hyper, then a 300+ foot drop tower is the next best thing:))

"hi, my name is Tim, and im a coasterholic"...."Hi Tim!!" hehe:)
What has taken them so darn long to get a drop ride, anyway, especially with the other 4 Paramount Parks operating them for a little while? I understand that they had other capital improvements over the years, but I figured they would get this long ago.
I think this may have something to do with Kings Dominion getting approval from the Planning Commission first - I hear that sometimes it takes years to get rides approved, as we've seen from the Stratosphere in Vegas. This ride will most DEFINITELY be seen by everybody on I-95.
Another quick comment: I think Kings Dominion is finally going in the right direction with this ride - maybe they'll be getting a B&M within the next few years!
YES !!!!!! like PKD says, they'll take us higher ( if you pay attention to the commercials) from Last year

Can we change the name of Top Gun to your mom so no one wants to ride your mom?

You are the passengers on a most uncommon elevator, about to ascend into your very own episode of the Twilight Zone
Joe, Intamin currently makes 5 different towers:
- Free Fall (like at Cedar Point)
- Giant Drop (seperate vhicles, can be sitting/stand-up/floorless stand-up)
- Gyro Drop (same as GD, but with a ring around the tower, can be sitting/stand-up)
- Bungee Drop (Giant Drop, but with a highspeed jojo effect)
- Ballistic Power Tower (the Space Shot by Intamin)
It's up to the parks to choose. If they want too, a launched tower is available (Bungee Drop or Ballistic Power Tower)
