Kingda Ka topped off

I know BullGuy, I found it amusing. No sarcasm intended there.
What's so amusing? It'll certainly feel like that. Anyone who has ridden TTD knows that the speed is VERY intense.

As for the fins on the tophat; it looks like trims.

Why the hell would they try to stop a train that is already stopped? Isn't that going to cause serious rollbacks?

Also, it would be nice if the CP fanboys can refrain from this thread. I'm sick of your pmsing; as are many people.

This discussion is STILL going on about the trim brakes? There are NO trims on the tophat!!!

Do you see any trims in this pic?

No.

And this is why Coaster Buzz is such a wonderful site filled with comments and sarcasm.;-)

=P

Yes, there are trims. Take a look at this picture.

Look all the way to the left. Those are trim breaks. Unless they are for the catwalk, which it doesn't look like that's the case.

They sure look like trims to me...
But they are past the top on the way down to make the train hang there for a sec or so to heighten the effect of looking down that far i bet. wow don't sit front seat if you don't like heights.

Watch the tram car please....
Yep, I was just told that the train will be stopped for a second.

Wow, Six Flags; hat's off!

So, its like the equivilant of a holding brake? Is that what you are saying?
That's what I think he's getting at...but I don' t know. Seems kind of stupid to me..

I well ditto that wow from everyone else I had no idea they'd actually open in March. I mean Darien Lake don't open till May, and I'm not to sure about New England. But is this normal for them to open so soon like that. Sorry if I over read anyone that already answered that question. Please dont go ape on me cause everyone keeps saying wow about the opening so early thing.

I think that Great Adventure regularly opens for Spring Break, but a local would be better suited to correctly answer that.
A "holding brake" might be cool. Would probably eliminate the wicked air like I got on my first (of 2) dragster rides shortly after it opened. BUT....with those shoulder bars, it might be a good thing!

This CP Fanboy says "You're not the boss of me"! ;) I've had nothing but love for this coaster ever since I heard about the bunny hill. I wish SF nothing but good luck with this ride. If Dragster was any indication, they will need it in spades. I like the colors and theming(not a race fan here) much better than Dragster's.
As far as this alleged holding brake goes I sure didn't notice anything of the sort in the promo video. Unless Kingda Ka, like a lot of movies and Reality tv shows these days, has a twist. ;) *** Edited 1/14/2005 6:43:31 AM UTC by macho nachos***

Yes Great Adventure opens every year for spring break/Easter. In the past years Easter
Sunday would be a pass holder only day. They typically were open the entire week the schools were closed. This year public school spring break is the end of April, but the private schools are off the week of Easter.

Are there any pictures of the topping off of KK?

Wouldn't a holding brake require more hardware than that? To bring the train to a full stop and then go again I would assume the brakes would have to retract somehow to release the train, right? I'm in no way, shape or form, an expert about this sort of thing, but it looks like a trim to me. Probably to slow the speed at which everyone bashes their head on the restraints during the spiral. *shrug*

Just speculation here.

I've often thought that rollbacks on TTD could be fixed with a tyre drive or the like over the top. Using a LIM or the like could also catch the train and give it that little boost needed if necessary.

Yes and no. The B&M dive machines use a chain to power their holding brake. The chain is simply stopped for three seconds and then released.
