Kinda Ka Only has 7400 Horsepower?

Don't knock him! He's from my home town!

Sorry for all the replies I didn't notice that I was going down the whole thing just replying to everything. *** Edited 10/31/2004 5:06:34 PM UTC by Kyle Fobe***

He's not trying to calculate the length of the launch track. He's trying to figure out if horsepower is affected by/dependant on/related to launch track length.

I believe your exact words were:

KdK gets up to a higher speed faster. If you know these two (top speed, time it takes to get there) length of launch track is already factored in.

...which it is not.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!

Way to nitpick on a semantic point having nothing to do with the actual discussion at hand. The point was that whether or not KdK has a longer launch track, it should require the same order (a bit more, but not that much more) of horsepower.

Also, typically when you're speaking directly to someone (5th post, page 2) you use the 2nd person pronoun rather than the 3rd. You quoted me and then addressed me as "he" which is why I was confused.

But just to humor you, I will revise my statement:

If you have acceleration as a function of time (and initial velocity, which is clearly 0, but I wouldn't want to get nitpicked), then you have length of launch track.

If you have similar d^2x/dt^2 then distance will already reflect that, as will horsepower.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Wow! That went totally over my head. ;)

Just wait until college, it gets much more fun when you get into multi-variable calculus and thermodynamics and such...:)

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

Very.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
I think that no matter what y'all say, 7400 HP is still very, very good. A while back, I did some calculations on TTD, and I figured that it has a force of about 13kN per launch, I don't know how that relates to HP, but that is quite a bit!

N is force, HP is power.

Power is force * distance / time.

i.e. HP = someconstant Nm/s

I doubt B&M is thinking about building a 500+ dive machine. I doubt CP would want to pay the price it may come with anyway.

Nope, it sucks a lot more. . .Differential equasions can kiss my arse.

Down is the new up.
But I have to say, a 500' Dive machine with an interesting layout like SkeiKra would rock the casbah. I do hope that CP's next coaster is extrordinarily different and unique, while not being the same old ride exp. we can get anywhere. I think Millie was like that, but not TTD, as it was just a larger one trick pony (don't get me wrong, loved the ride).
Thanks Andy.

Where did this discussion about a 500-ft diver come about? Can't we be happy enough with SheiKra and its 200ft drop- it will go about 70mph, what more do we need, at 500ft, you may get bored by the time you get to the bottom in my opinion.

They might not get a 500 footer, it kind of sounds rediculus, i do however think they need to tear down mean streak and maybe build another woodie. that coaster is no fun anymore. All its good for is giving headaches.

It's funny how the PC police only come out against certain people....or should I say, they don't come out against certain people.

No further explanation needed. I'm hopelessly lost.
I thought Mean Streak was a fun ride, as long as you don't put your head/back area on the backrests.

Word, I hear people say that all the time, but I just don't understand where they are coming from. Linear Algebra and DiffEq are less difficult than multi-variable calculus in my opinion. At least it is at Purdue in the engineering department.

As for the 500 footer rumor. It's something that people (well fanboys) have come to expect from Cedar Point. It's seems outrageous now, but who knows what the 2007 season might hold. Before Kingda Ka was announced, there was already word around the campfire this summer while working at CP about them wanting to break 500 feet. If they do lets hope its a tradition stype lift more similar to MF than a launch.

ya i agree cp i think you can only have one kind of launch in a park. if you have multiple it is just "stupid", not gay anymore. I really do hope they do something with mean streak though its a huge waste of space if you ask me.

i hope it is traditional, but damn thats going to be a huge lift hill. I know cp will come through and amaze everyone, they always do.

Who are you talking to, I'm wondering??

As they are at Georgia Tech.
