Kentucky Kingdom to get a new roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by Joey Stewart

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom is using the word "lightnin'" to hint at the thrill ride it's bringing to the Louisville amusement park next season, fueling speculation among coaster enthusiasts.

Viper has that cool lead car with the snake logo on the front. If SFKK is not going to call it "Viper," they should give the cool lead car to SFAW for their Viper coaster, and SFKK could get the lead car from Houston's Viper. It would be a nice swap!

Does Panther Modern really think that by calling us names, the "idiocy" will stop?

If you don't want to receive stupid emails from stupid people, don't host a website...plain and simple. Look at the traffic this site receives....just imagine how much mail Jeff gets.

Drachen Fire!!! And they thought we'd forgot..

No, I'm glad about Viper. Can't wait to see what they'll do to the coaster this time.

I bet it's Wind Jammer.

They got you all perhaps you remember a coaster called Drachen Fire. . .

It isn't so bad. . .
Once you're used to it

Yes! Your Getting Viper! This Coaster has a long history!

Started at SFGAm as Tidal Wave. Then to SFOG as Viper, Now To SFKK!

If you ask me, I think SFKK Should get a better Roller Coaster! They haven't had a great one in a few years now.

Unlike SFGAm!!! We get something new every other year or so! :) :) :)

Total Visits to SFGAm this Season: 15

Haha, Windjammer was totally ripped apart. That coaster is one that will never again see the light of day.

Hey, considering the available land, we couldn't get a better one! I know I'll be in line for it. Praise Six Flags for restoring this classic.

Good news! Viper was my second favorite ride when I visited SFOG in 2000, and Greezed' Lightnin' was my fav. at Astroworld. The launch that those old Schwartzkopf's provide is so fun, and it's one of the few experiences left that involves a completely mechanical launch. Don't get me wrong - not to be putting down LIM/Hydrolics, but it is a different and exhilerating feel. I'm glad they didn't scrap the ride, and I hope to one day get to KK to ride it again.

Hey SFKK fans, us people at SFoGZ will galdy let you have our Vekoma 7 looper, Ninja, if we can have Viper back.

You'll get a thrilling (all be it painful coaster), and we can have back what we never wanted to leave the park in the frist place.

Now just so people say I'm not whineing, I will say I don't at all mind what they gave us in return for Viper. A Killer B&M Flyer =)

Panther Modern, Wasn't it the news article at the top that speculated Greased Lightning?

Chuck, who thinks most park enjoy the benifits of hype even if they are way off.

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

No, Chuck. Go read the article again. SFAW's shuttle is only mentioned as a comparison, the article speculates Viper from SFOG.

I *think* Chuck meant Greased Lightning as the NAME for the "new" ride at SFKK....I could be mistaken.

Personally, I can't think of any NEW coaster I'd rather have come to my home park.....well, there IS the 4-d, but that's not quite realistic, YET....

Chuck wasn't clear in his post and some people earlier in the thread had speculated that SFAW's GL was the coaster making the move. My apologies to Chuck if I got his gist wrong ;)

1/2 of Shockwave + the unused 1/2 of Steel Phantom = Arrow/Arrow Hybrid.

I just saw the computer animation on the news. Looks like a new paint job with purple and green being the colors I saw? Greezed Lightin' is the name though.

I drove by yesterday and no construction had started, no footers poured yet either. I'm still very excited though!

Panther Modern said this:

Shockwave is too tall for this park right next to an airport.

If this is true, (I don't know why it wouldn't be) Shockwave is much too tall and would be a safety hazard to people on the ride, and the people on ingoing and outgoing flights.

May I remind you Shockwave is 170 ft. tall, and I believe it was the tallest coaster in the world when it was built (1988). Viper, however, is only 137 ft. tall, and the tallest coaster as of now at SFKK is Chang, at 154.

PS - Roller Coaster DataBase already lists SFKK as having a coaster, named Unknown, from SFOG (Viper).

-----------------
Top 3, no order: S:ROS (SFNE), MF, BTR (SFGAm)

As for the Airport thing, might I point SFoGA is less then 1/4th of a mile from the Fulton County Airport and has 2 200ft rides. (Deja Vu, and Acrophobia)

It is not an international Airport like Hartsfield, so no 747's or 757's land there, but it is still an Airport. Unless the huge Kentucky Airport is right by the park putting in a 170 ride shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'm not saying I think it'll be shockwave, I in fact think it'll be Viper (our Viper =( from SFoGA) but I'm saying the closeness of the Airport might have as much to do with tall ride as some think.
