Kentucky Kingdom to get a new roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by Joey Stewart

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom is using the word "lightnin'" to hint at the thrill ride it's bringing to the Louisville amusement park next season, fueling speculation among coaster enthusiasts.

More like Viper. Remember that flags have been sighted in the park that suggests an elongated layout. A Schwartzkopf shuttle loop has such a layout. Shockwave did not. Plus, as the article stated, there is already a Six Flags coaster named "Greezed Lightnin'". They're practically the same ride (weight drop vs flywheel). Why not use the same name and merchandise opportunities??

Shockwave would cover that entire park

Finally, some good news for SFKK. We will welcome "Viper" with open arms...

Pinball and Coasters...Any Questions?

Ok please someone enlighten me I don't get the" lightening is about to strike for the 8th time in the same place" reference. The coaster( if viper/tidalwave) has only been 2 other places(same place reference) and how many people from the general public even know Greezed Lightning exists(lightening reference)

As for my opinion .. If it is Viper then they should keep that name and theme from SFOG I think that was some of the best coaster theming I have ever seen

Thanks Outlane....good to hear. I'm just really happy that SOME park is getting Viper. The fact that it's a park I visit makes it even better (who'd a thought that being *near* HW would be a DRAW for a SF park, lol). An Anton sitting in "mothballs" just doesn't sound right.

"Enthusiasts" think it's gonna be Viper....SF says nothing....who else COULD you use as a source for an article....

bill, who STILL wants to find some Viper theming items on Ebay...just in case anyone's *listening*...

edit: John, it'll be SFKK's 8th coaster...that's all. *** This post was edited by rollergator on 12/3/2002. ***

Well at least SFKK is being slightly more forthcoming with details than Cedar Point. I mean at least SFKK is telling us "It's a roller coaster" instead of "We know what it is, but we're not telling"

CD....I'm still the one who believes CP is building the World's Tallest McDonald's...until they say something, I can choose to believe whatever I like, lol....

featured *themed* menu item: Hot Apple Pie In The Sky....

It has to be Viper. The only other SF Schwarzkopf shuttle looper that I can think of is Greezed Lightnin' at SFAW, but they just repainted the ride one or two years ago, so that is not a real possibility.

If you live near SFKK and have never been on a Schwarzkopf Shuttle Looper, you are in for a treat.

Looks like HW, SFKK, and PKI are on the list of "to do" parks next season in one trip.

""To be the man, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!, You got to beat the man""!!!

Shockwave is too tall for this park right next to an airport.

It is Viper from SFOG.

The "8th time" refers to it's their 8th coaster.

They are reusing Six Flags AstroWorlds "Greezed Lightnin'" theme from our Schwarzkopf shuttle loop (granted ours is the flywheel model). This allows them to save cost and development on a new logo and artwork. (just like why SFMM's coaster is being called SCREAM! .. logo and artwork is already done).

Please, the one ride that AstroWorld would fight tooth and nail over to keep is Greezed Lightnin'. She's never gonna leave our park.

I'll agree that it *saves* on artwork, logos, merchandising, etc....but when a t-shirt says across the front in BIG letters: Kumba, Loch Ness Monster, Magnum XL-200, The Beast, etc., etc....you don't have to ask what park it came from. I'd even go SO far as to say that a unique *identity* for a ride gives it something *different*. Sure, we know 99.9% of the population doesn't know (or care, for that matter) about a ride elsewhere with the same name, logo, etc., but I sure am happy that I won't go to SF park X next year and see a ride called *The Legend*.

bill, who is led to question "what ARE they saving, and is it WORTH it"...of course, as always, creativity costs extra... ;)

Ok, lets put some brakes on right here.

People are emailing me asking if it's our shuttle loop moving. Let me state once and for all, No.

Let me point out that what you people find 'funny' by making sarcastic comments about different rides moving around and such, only brings Hell to us other webmasters because the sheep you are feeding this information to actually believe it and then try to find other sources to "confirm" your idiocy.

Do you KNOW how many people actually emailed me asking if the rumors that only HALF of Shockwave was coming to our park?

Are there any Louisville locals who would like to contribute construction photos or drive-by reports?

You also have to remember, Greezed Lightnin Houston and Greezed Lightnin Kentucky will be over 1000 miles apart, and you're "average park goer" will have not a care one that they named the rides after one another. And let's also remember, it's the "average park goer" that six flags cares about the most, they spend the most money.
