Kennywood attendance 2002 and what's new?

Heat was the major factor, but it didn't hinder attendance at other parks because they have water parks within them. For information....

What happened with the Whip.

------------------
-Sean Newman

Freak storm produced a microburst (near-tornado strength winds) that ripped the roof off the building housing the whip and the debris crushed a woman against the Pittsburgh Plunge fence. It was a freak accident and an act of nature, but somehow that means that the entire park is unsafe and the park is liable to pay that woman's family all kinds of money (at least according to lawyers) *shakes head*

On that subject, is the roof being rebuilt this offseason? I haven't driven past the park in the light this winter.

And is anyone else skeptical of this "Volcano Valley" thing? I don't know, seems a little cheesy to me and sort of a desparation to bring crowds back that might have been lost to the more-themed SFWoA. Not that I won't go or anything, but it just kinda irks me that they took out those bathrooms. Just as long as the Mushroom doesn't go anywhere!

Really? That's a first! General concensus is that those bathrooms sucked. The new ones should be much nicer.

I don't think the Whip Pavillion is being re-built at this moment at least....I think they are still in the Lawsuit, but I'm not sure??? Anyone know?

Will the new ones have heated seats?

I've driven past the park a couple of times this winter and they have left ithe whip as it was after the microburst and I think they may keep it that way.

I loved those bathrooms more as a sentimental thing than anything. The "Kennywood moments" I remember from being really little are chillin with the mirrors and foot things at those bathrooms, the mushroom and watchin my Dad do Skycoaster the first year ;)

And I think it really sucks that they're not puttting the roof back on the Whip. Lost Kennywood with all those lights and such is so magical, but that corner just looks ... sorry folks, Six Flagish or even Cedar Pointish without the roof on the Whip with lights and such. I think that's a very poor decision not to put it back up. (and if the lawsuits keeping it away, well that's one more reason to add to my list of why I hate lawyers)

When the lawsuit is settled, I bet we see a new roof over the Whip.

My mind works in strange ways. Yeah with a chain driven lift hill and gravity.

I don't know about heated since but they will automatically flush! (it's the little thing that make me happy)
Those bathrooms have some sentimental value to me as well, but I can't really pin down why that is.

I really would like to see the Whip get another roof. I always thought the Whip building was the coolest part of Lost Kennywood.

Any word on whether or not the Phantom's Revenge will finally cap off the concrete walls to make a tunnel?

Who said we're not putting a roof back on the Whip?

Those above who think they "know" only know what they've heard from other websites and have no idea what's going on, yet try to state stuff they've "heard" as fact.

It's only February. It won't take 2 1/2 months to build. If you drive by in May and see no roof, then you'll know for sure. It is in the plans for now. (Of course, plans do change sometimes, too.)

kpjp, you could always move the original Whip pavillion over to Lost Kennywood. It would be only the third (or fourth) time it's been moved.
That's good to hear that the roof will back on. Any word if the same people who built the roof for the whip will be the same ones putting on the second one??

kpjp, is that a response to the contactor, moving the old pavillon, or both?
I think he was referring to my reply??? I do have a question Kpjb why would they NOT put a roof on the whip? It is to my understanding that the whip was down alot last season, and the roof really did keep the weather out.
