I was feeling sassy today. Check out my latest editorial, cleverly placed in the editorial section.
That graphic still makes me laugh.

I agree with you Jeff. This guy does need to get some better material if he plans to take on the builders and parks of the high-G death machines, lol.
You said it best if the parks built a killing machine it wouldn't be a park anymore just a plot of land with lots of machinery.
The thing that I really want to know is if he is coasterphobic. The "safety" issue would give him an excuse not to ride. ;)

Six Flags America? No, no! My name means "Sarcasm-For-All"
Interesting. I see that with the latest introduction of Markey's bill, the price tag...that is, the size of the additional CPSC appropriation...has doubled from $250,000 to $500,000 since last year.
It's not about ride safety. It's about diverting a half a million dollars to the CPSC.

We need to get that in the New York Times or the national news or something lol. That article wipes Markey's case away.
The thing that I really want to know is if he is coasterphobic. The "safety" issue would give him an excuse not to ride.
Thats what I am thinking. Why did he decide to attack the amusement park industry of all things when there are so many other issues out there.

In the open letter Jeff states...
"My favorite statement made in opposition to your silly legislation was from Rep. Cliff Stearns in May of last year: 'It's a solution in search of a problem. There are more people injured while bowling.'"
I'm officially a statistic!!!!
Never been injured on a coaster (or on anything at a park or fair)... but I see the doctor on Tuesday to see what I did to my wrist last week while bowling!

I don't understand why more
Parks aren't getting involved in clearing the bad rap for roller coasters. Why do they just sit and watch it happen?
BTW Jeff, Excellent editorial, very well researched!

Because they know that the ubiqutous "American People" are not concerned with any proposed legislation. Heck, if anything, it gives the parks free advertisements. No publicity is bad publicity. Heck, if anything think about how many people woulf think it's cool to ride a coaster that injured/killed someone (sick but true). Look at how many Buzzers want to ride the old Crystal Beach Cyclone!

I enjoyed the letter very much, Jeff. Is there any chance that Markley will ever see it? (I don't know if all you did was post it here, or if you did more)

Nice Letter, the big question is, did you mail to Markley? How about some of the large newspapers, such as the L.A. Times? If its only posted here its useless, "preaching to the choir" as they say.
Can we PLEASE send this to Dateline, or any news or internet site or SOMETHING!! That is one amazing letter, and certainly deserves recognition. It maps out the whole case extremely well! Why can't some politicans deal with real world problems? Middle East? Kahmir? Hunger? Anything? Roller coaster are just fine, don't worry about them! Well done Jeff!

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
LOVED THE LETTER!
Bill O'Reilly might be able to use it for something. Or maybe just send it to Fox News. They seem to show both sides of a story better than most news channels.
Just a thought.
ROTFLMAO, you tell em Jeff!
Great letter Jeff! You know though, I kind of have mixed feelings on this issue. I am not for federal involvement in the amusement industry but it does disturb me, maybe on principle alone, that some states exclude major parks from complying with their rules regarding ride safety. For example, if I am not mistaken, Disney World is exempt from complying with Florida's laws regarding amusement rides. It seems a bit shady at best. Do not get me wrong, I think rides are safe now and agree that the issue of roller coaster safety is overblown by our friend Rep. Markey but at the same time it just bothers me that some of the "big boys" are above the rules. Just thought I would share....
