Jacobs Group buys 30 acres of Geauga Lake

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The Richard E. Jacobs Group is under contract to buy the 30-acre plot of Geauga Lake land in Bainbridge Township, which is a small piece of the 540 acres that went up for sale after the amusement park shut down last year. Cliff West, managing director of land development services at Colliers, said Jacobs is courting a major department store, restaurants and other tenants such as a bookstore and an electronics retailer.

So the moral of this thread is that everyone should buy a home theater and DVD's foir Xmas to get the retail sector going so we can put in more drug stores. Did I miss anything?

Sounds like a plan to me.

Yes! Send more money to China so they have more to lend us! Now that's what you call your global economy.

Geeze guys.

I'm just glad I work for a company that sells and build sheet metal parts made BY Americans (and legal immigrants) with AMERICAN STEEL, FOR Americans, and to top it off, these products are SOLD to Americans, and instaled BY Americans in AMERICAN buildings.

Heck, the farthest we ship our products is Pittsburg, PA.

I digiress.

'Specially all those big old tax breaks the states gave Honda and Nissan and Toyota to build plants here.

^ Let's just be clear - can't really blame Toyota or Honda or Nissan for taking advantage of the knowledge they gained by watching our pro sports franchises "shopping around" for what cities would build them venues, give them tax breaks, build them infrastructure like roads and parking garages, etc. Smart businesses understand that they can play politics and get sweet deals under the guise of "providing jobs". ;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Yeah, and if the companies stay around long enough, those tax breaks go away over the years. I'm not sure if the deal that got Honda to build Accords in Marysville has expired yet or not...but what started as a way to build cars closer to the people who were buying them took an interesting twist when Honda started exporting US-built cars to Japan...

Meanwhile, I drive a Ford...and the first digit of the VIN is a 2, indicating that the car was built in Canada.

And to touch on something else that was covered in this wide-ranging thread...

There was a GREAT Italian restaurant right down the street from me, it was there for decades, then along came CVS, who bought the property and built a huge store there. A few years later, when CVS was trying to buy Rite Aid (and did buy the Rite Aid stores in Columbus) they closed that store and moved a half mile down the road to the then-new Rite Aid. Now the big CVS store stands vacant. Who needs a big-box property in the middle of a mostly residential neighborhood?

And don't get me started on the Kahiki, a famous Polynesian restaurant on Columbus' east side, actually in Whitehall. At least the Walgreens store that replaced it is still open.

Why doesn't Wal*Mart just cut the bull and start buying up other chains already?
:)

I'll second this.

They've got so much money, they could slam-dunk kmart/sears, Target, meijers, and throw in Six Flags for the helluva it in one series of buy-outs.

Nobody touches Target. I wouldn't have anywhere to shop, then.

And if that happens I hope you don't mind buying only what Wal-Mart feels like stocking.

Yeah and then paying what Wal-Mart feels like paying... there is a reason monopolies are faux pas.

Funny, they just mowed down a decent Mexican restaurant down the street to make way for a Walgreens (which is across the street from a CVS). I would mind if there weren't 2000 better Mexican places in the area.

So, do we complain when China starts building our coasters? Or do we ride and shut up? (or scream)?

Nah, china won't mess around buying coaster companies. They have their eyes on the US Auto industry. They'll bring back leaded gas! no more 'tnk tnk tnk' sounds!

Yeah. leaded gas and the cancer rates. Heck, let's see a Swiss car company. You'd be able to order a work truck with the tools you need built in (saw a table saw for a carpenter or a welder for a metal worker), ala the Swiss army knife. :)

I'd just be happy when somebody builds a NEW car you don't need a PhD to work on. Gimmie a truck where the parts are actually visble and not buried under a chunk of plastic or burried in some unacessable place.

Give a SIMPLE radio (one knob for volume, one for tuning, couple of tactile buttons you can feel for chaning tracks on the iPod or CD, and a large display.

Hopman, your transporter back to the 1950's just arrived.

LOL, I was going to say the same thing. :-D

Actually, I'd take the 60's cars (a nice Plum Crazy Charger convertable w/ a 440 6 pack and a 4-speed stick), 80's music (Van Halen would be nice), the coaster wars of the 90's, I'd be happy.

On second thought, i'll just put my order in with Doc Brown. :)
