Jacobs Group buys 30 acres of Geauga Lake

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The Richard E. Jacobs Group is under contract to buy the 30-acre plot of Geauga Lake land in Bainbridge Township, which is a small piece of the 540 acres that went up for sale after the amusement park shut down last year. Cliff West, managing director of land development services at Colliers, said Jacobs is courting a major department store, restaurants and other tenants such as a bookstore and an electronics retailer.

As for the drugstore thing, I've seen two of my favorite places to eat det demo'd for a CVS & a Wallgreens.

They just tore down a 20+ year old, family owned Chinese place here are are in the process of sticking a Walgreens there. A new Rite-Aid just opened just down the street from it, and there's a 5-ish year old CVS right across the street from the Ride-Aid.

How ironic. One of the places they toore down was an old Chinese place (the place look outta the 70's but still some of the best lo mein I've found), but in that same building was a store where I worked 2 1/2 years. The other resturant that was demo'd was an Italian joint that had won "Best Of" awards for many years.

If this keeps up, the country is gonna be one big mega-corperation.

Buy-n-large, it's your super store, all you need, and so much more!

Scoot, for cripe's sake, why can we measure Christmas by how much we are thankful for and not by how much stuff is bought?

Don't make start quoting George Carlin.

I'm thankful for everything. I never said anything about measuring xmas by the material things bought. I don't want anything this xmas except for my family and friends to keep their jobs and health.

I did say Retail sales is not going to be good. Considering all the lay-offs and shutdowns this year, I just don't see retail having a good season this year. Citigroup just cut 53000 jobs this morning over and above 22000 preivously, and that's just one company.

Heh. I was listening to the BnL jingle (it's on the soundtrack) just last night!

I gotta snag WALL-E tomarrow. If you watch a DVD twice, it's still cheaper than seeing the movie in the theater twice.

Besides, I have young cousins comiing for Thanksgiving. It might help keep 'em entertained.

As for the mega-corp thing, I was thinking more along the lines of Omni Consumer Products from Robocop.

The experience can be very similar with the home theater systems that are available.

But at home I don't have to worry about a whole theater filled with kids (and adults) that don't know how to shut the hell up during the film.

I still prefer the movie theater. There's something about the experience that's still special to me...

I'm a 'comfort of home' guy.

Besides, the movie theatres are overpriced. :)

Yeah the comfort of home, and overpricing of theaters are all good reasons to not bother with them anymore. But there is still one large reason for me to head to the theater, and that is the group vibe that you get when you are watching a movie with a large group of people. Yeah the large group also means that you get distractions but it can actually make or break a movie to see a groups reaction versus with 1 or 2 people.

And of course there is the large screen, and good sound system that you get at the theater, which I don't have at home.

^ I can't stand that either, which is why I'm more of an off hours theater goer.

Funny, I went to see virtually every film nominated for a major Academy Award last year, and the only one that had bothersome teens was 'Juno'.

Maybe it depends on the quality of movie you go to . . .

Subway is probably one of the few franchising opportunities that gets it right, in that they're far more relaxed about locations and size and such. I swear they'd let you open one in a shack.

I saw one in Green River Wyoming that was in a trailer...and a tiny one at that! Probably 20 feet at the most?

With prices where they are today, Ill only go to blockbusters or Pixar fims in theatres. Dramas, comedies, and the like I wait for video. No need to waste money on seeing something that I will enjoy as much at home.

That said, explosions in a movie theatre are still much better then on a TV.

So the moral of this thread is that everyone should buy a home theater and DVD's foir Xmas to get the retail sector going so we can put in more drug stores. Did I miss anything?

I picked up Wall-E today, and have yet to watch it. I think a Best Buy would be a possible store for that site, they are doing pretty well.

I've got no issues with Best Buy. They're one of the few chains I don't mind.

This is only because I can't stand Wal-Mart and BB has a better DVD selection.
