It's official: Nitro coming to Six Flags Great Adventure

Posted | Contributed by RagingBull

The worst kept secret of the 2001 season has finally been officially announced. Nitro, a 230-foot tall B&M hypercoaster, will debut this year at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Read the whole press release, with images and video, at Internet Wire.

I sure hope they have the few flat rides that weren't running last year (especially Evolution) running this year cause they're going to need every ride they have. This park is going to be mobbed. As anyone who's been to Great Adventure can tell you, this park gets way out of control busy. This is what happens when you have a park that feeds off Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, and to a lesser extent Northern Maryland.
I disagree with Jeff and Red Garter Rob...I enjoyed Nitro's animation more than anything Badnitrus has done. The camera wasn't shaky at all and the speed was a little more accurate than what BNP does.

Not saying BNP is bad, just not as quality as Intraxx.

The above is soley my opinion, thank you.
wheres the video i'm lookin for it
you're right, intamin fan. i go to gadv at least 12 times a year, and it is always bad with the lines. I think that "more rides, less lines" advertiesment is BULLCRAP - they draw in more people and get bigger lines. i cant wait tho, this looks like an extreem air-time machine! it will probably also draw crowds away from frontier adventures, and give medusa a little more tolerable wait.

Hey does anyone out there know if this is gonna be a traditional B&M in the way of the "roar" that the coasters make, or is it going to be hushed w/sand in the supports and different wheels ala IOA? Personally I'm tired of the noise and how cool would it be cruising at 70+ mph through the woods at night on a coaster than has a "stealth like" sound. Lets hope they don't flood it w/alot of lights. For those of you unfamiliar w/SFGadv this coaster is very isolated from the rest of the park (excepting the station of course). Might even be similiar to Boulderdash in terms of bug inhalation in the P.M!!! Can't Wait

Badnitrus=college kid making animations in his spare time on a program he taught himself
INTRAXX=professional company being paid lots of money to create animations using a completely different program
The Point=Regardless of what you mentioned, a company that gets paid money to create an animation for a park should put in the effort and provide a detailed and quality animation with not-so obvious flaws such as a non-existant booster at the top of the lift hill and missing crucial elements that Jeff pointed out. It's also not fair to compare my hobby to a company's product... That is my two cents on the topic

im not sure exactly about the sand, but they've been doing it lately on all their new coasters. Not only will the coaster be isolated from the park, but the trains have 9 cars instead of eight. thhis will insure a good amount of hang time for the front row. I cant wait! i already got my season pass.
did they say anything at the press release about an on-ride photo? im a big collector and my present count is at 118.
Keith --

I know you're a college student who taught himself how to do animations. I also know that Intraxx is a corporation who gets paid a lot of money to do the animations. I was commenting on my thoughts of the animations you've done, which were good for an ameteur, but nothing close to professional. I was merely stating my differing opinion on how Red Garter Rob said if you would have done Nitro's animation it would have been a million times better, I disagreed. Why didn't you comment on his positive perspective? You only chose to comment on my perspective.

I'll say that the Nitro animation was far from perfect, but I thought it was pretty darn good. The speed was controlled better and the entire ride (track, supports) just looked more realistic. I think you can handle this constructive critisism. Heck, you yourself even said your Talon animation was crappy, or so that's what a friend tells me. ;)

No hard feelings? Hope to see ya on the Bull this summer, too.

Where in the park will this new ride be located? or what other rides are it near? *** This post was edited by photon on 2/2/2001. ***
photon, nitro (the station and queue) will be located behind batman the ride, and next to river rapids. im pretty sure that you will have to go back towards the fantasy fling and it will be right next to the woods. the coaster itself will be spread out in the woods along the property border. might you want to know batman is finally getting a paint job:)
oh man that deisighn looks sweet! better than MF becuase im sorry but mf migth have a 300foot drop but they killed it with all the over banked truns! not fun! and no effence but i went to cedarpoint and i was so upset with them they dont check ur restrainest somtimes! it should be NEVER! and they where so full of themselves! every frigen ride amercias rollercoaster agin and agiN! pleaseeee!!!! they got what they deserve for 2001! Legendary, I chose to reply to your comments because I disagreed with you... but if intraxx is what you call professional, then i am proud to be just an 'amateur'

Keith "Badnitrus" McVeen
Yeah nitro looks sweet. Maybe i'll even get out to ride it. As always B&M pleases me. Way to tell them keith. lol

I don't want to pick a fight here, but I think Keith's work far surpasses Intraxx. I'm wondering, Legendary, what specifically you find to be amateurish in Keith's work compared to that of Intraxx? Have you seen the new Tornado animation he did? That blows away anything Intraxx has ever done, period, with regards to detail, landscaping and texturing. Pretty amazing when you consider he doesn't have access to CAD files and such. And where is the audio? The third-person perspective shots?

Putting "corporation" after your name doesn't make you better at what you do. The "amateur college kid" in this case makes the better product, and he has a current and fabulous portfolio to back it up.

Jeff says: I'm wondering, Legendary, what specifically you find to be amateurish in Keith's work compared to that of Intraxx?

Specifically, his SKC animation bothers me. The camera angles get all weird for most of the ride, and the first drop is way too fast (moreso than Nitro, IMO). Basically, it's those two things that make it look ameteurish -- awkward speed and awkward "camera" angles.

Have you seen the new Tornado animation he did? That blows away anything Intraxx has ever done, period, with regards to detail, landscaping and texturing.

No, I have not seen the new Tornado animation.

Pretty amazing when you consider he doesn't have access to CAD files and such. And where is the audio? The third-person perspective shots?

There it is, right there. You seem to enjoy the animations for the scenery, audio, etc. I'm only interested in the *roller coaster track*. I think BN's track is excellent, but so is Intraxx's (reference MF's. I *love* the MF animation done by Intraxx.)

I'm also assuming Intraxx did the CG track layout picture of Nitro? If so, that's superior to any third-person perspective shot I've seen at BN.

Lastly, Jeff wrote: Putting "corporation" after your name doesn't make you better at what you do. The "amateur college kid" in this case makes the better product, and he has a current and fabulous portfolio to back it up.

That's your opinion, not shared by myself. I think if Keith and Mike had access to the CAD files they *could* be better than Intraxx. But as it is, they aren't. They are pretty damn good, however, as I said before.

And Keith, you should be proud of your work! I'm not trying to bash it or anything, just saying that I think Intraxx does a better job. If you keep at it, I'm sure you can surpass them someday, too. Good luck!

Joe, who will download the tornado animation as soon as he gets home from Sea World Ohio tomorrow (gotta process that pass!).

What is with the sudden BURST of energy at the top of the lift hill?? I am assuming that isn't accurate.......Or could it be. :-)
yea that boost is too fake. i dont think b&m would add any hulk boosters on it, because they are very expensive to run and they wouldnt be built that high up.

Okay, since he is talking about what I told him, I think I must reply. Firstly, I never said that Keith told me he thought his talon animation was "Crappy". That is insane! Maybe the speed was a bit off at parts, ok, but why the hell did you say I told you he thought it was "crappy"!!?!? What was the point of saying that Joe?

Just wanted to clear up the fact that Keith does not in fact consider his own animations which he spends lots of time on, crappy.

IMO, Badnitrus rules and almost all his animations are better than any of Intraxx's animations.
