It's official: Nitro coming to Six Flags Great Adventure

Posted | Contributed by RagingBull

The worst kept secret of the 2001 season has finally been officially announced. Nitro, a 230-foot tall B&M hypercoaster, will debut this year at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Read the whole press release, with images and video, at Internet Wire.

This coaster looks great! SFGADV should have a few shorter lines this season...maybe not for this one...
Is it just me, or at the top of the lift does the train go reallt fast when its not even anywhere down the hill??? Is that why its called ~NITRO~?
The lines will NEVER go down!
People don't leave when it gets dark anymore either.

45 minute drive to NITRO!
Im hopin the line for Medusa goes down a bit, its true, nobody leaves, they say it closes at ten or whatever , i was there till about 11:30 one night, still online for medusa, this was a year ago...they gotta make some rules or somethin, not that i dont mind being there after hours...the park get crazy crowded sometimes and its horrible, if youve been there mid summer you know what i mean...
i kno i went to great adventure 12 times in the 99-00 season because i only live 15 minutes away and medusa was always packed. i cant wait to go on nitro, it looks awsum, ive been waiting for a hyper to come to great adventure for like 6 years.
I didn't see total track length. Does anyone know that for sure?
Relating to the lift crest, does that sudden burst of speed at the top seem accurate on the video? There doesn't seem to be any hanging over the edge waiting for the train to disengage the chain.

I know it's just a CG animation, but it just got me wondering.

Yet another coaster that tempts me to use my SF Season Pass on the West Coast this summer. Oh, if only I could afford the trip!

This coaster easily seems to be the best B&M hyper. It has the airtime of AC and a "few" of the curves of RB. It also seems really long. I wonder if there will be a set of trims on the third hill, which seems to be common of B&M hypers.

Look for this baby to be compared with Magnum, AC, and S:ROS.

Coasters...the best natural buzz available.
That coaster looks sweet. WTG Six Flags. Kind of reminds me of Ghostrider, a steel version that is. Now, not to get negative or anything, but, how long do you think it will be till you see this coaster at a SF park near you? [dont answer that, we all know the answer] LOL Oh well. :)
Does Anyone know the opening date? The month would be fine.

I'd Rather Be Riding Rollercoasters
this things gonna be an airtime machine
April 7th is the scheduled park opening and they say it will be ready then! B&M never misses an opening date.
is that a boost i see over the crest?
That coaster looks FRAKY AWESOME! 230 feet is killer!

I think what you're seeing is really crappy animation. What amateur did that? No chain on the lift, no mid-course or final brakes. I bet they paid a fortune for it, too.

Jeff, the animation was done by Intraxx. I was at the press event, and the animation there wasn't too bad. Yes, chain and details are missing, but the animation was ok. In case you are wondering, this is Viper from Badnitrus Productions.
Wow... Why does that look like an incredibly good ride?

AWESOME!!!!!! I can't wait for opening day. I've already got my season pass. Think they'd mind if we all camped out till it opens. I'm so happy I'm only 25 minutes away.

P.S. descent has an s in it
I agree Jeff.. It look terrible and they probably paid some company a few grand when they could have just thrown a few grand at someone like Badnitrus and get something a million times better.

Looks like I'll have to hit this ride on my annual NJ trip.
