We went through the long painfull process of answering your question and now you might be going to Florida instead? lol. Just joking. If you make it out to SFGAm , I hope you have a great time.

There isn't one reason to NOT go.  It is a wonderful park with (mostly) exceptional coasters.  Do be prepared for horrid lines, though.  I have never been when the lines are short, so I have no idea when that happens.  I even had the experience of riding Z-force there in 1987, and waited 2 1/2 hours to do it.  ugh........:)

it is well worth the trip to go to sfgam. it has the best arrow looper they ever built. also viper, raging bull, and american eagle which is a still worth riding.
Eagle Backwards this year is a good reason to go, plus Raging Bull, Viper, Deja Vu and V2 and many more great coasters.  This is one of the greatest parks in the world and a place you must go to if your in the area.

Great America is one of Six Flags' largest parks.  It is definately worth it.  They have the first B:TR, Raging Bull, the first B&M hyper, etc.  With 10 rollercoasters, it is definately worth a stop.

just to clear something up....Raging Bull is NOT B&M's first hyper coaster...that honour goes to the beautiful Apollos Chariot here at BGW...hehe, gotta represent my home park :) but yes, B:TR at SFGAm is the first one of the clones....im not sure why St Louis was mirrored...maybe they just got a wild hair...:)

ROLLERCOASTERS....BETTER THAN OXYGEN BABY!!!!!!

actually vacoasterfreak, Raging Bull was the first one built and opened.  Raging Bull opened first.  Sorry!

Actually, on my spring break of 1999, I went to Bush Gardens and rode Apollo's Chariot.  It did in fact open first.

I live 15 minutes from Great America so as much as I wanted Raging Bull to open first, Bush Garden's had that east coast advantage of opening earlier in the year (end of March I believe) where Great America had to wait till May 1st to open Raging Bull, which was actually only a week after the park opened that year, which was on the 26th.

But if you ask me, both were announced and built in the same year, so I don't really consider either one "exclusive" to holding that coveted "first" title.  It's one thing to say Batman at Great America was the first inverted roller coaster, because there was nothing like it in 1992, but you won't see me defending the Demon as the first 4 looping Arrow when 3 other Arrow 4 loopers opened that same year in 1980.

Although, if you want to talk about which ride was first marketed as a "hyper twister".......

I'm can't say this is 100% accurate, but 90+% (from RCDB)

Raging Bull: Operating since 5/1/1999

Apollo's Chariot: Operating since 3/27/1999

If this doesn't clear up that little thing, nothing will. If ALF can't be convinsed by RCDB, nothing can! ;)

thanks for backin me up guys...but even so, they were opened the same year....so its not that big a deal.  its just nice to see one of my beloved VA parks hold some records, hehe:)...sorry Alf....check your facts first bro :)

Silly me.  I believed local Six Flags advertising.....
I thought Raging Bull was the first hyper-twister. Anways SFGam is an awesome park with lots to do and see.  It is definatly worth your trip.

I live in Crystal Lake! I go to SFGAm at least 7 times a year. It can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes. It all depends on the route you take, and how fast the driver is. And believe me, SFGAm is worth the trip.

V2 can't be compared to any of the rides in SFGAm!The Vertical Drop was amazing!
Has anybody ever rode Turn of the Century. I think that is what Demon was right? I was just wondering if anybody has ever ridden because it looks like a cool ride especially for back then.
I make the trip several times a summer from Sandusky. I'm not far from SFWoA, but I still make the 7 hour drive to Great America. Definately recommended...

Like others have said, Bull opened second to AC.  I was operating the coaster the first operating day to the general public on May 1, 1999.  It had opened the night before to a B96 (or Q101, I can never remember) private party.
I had ridden it twice on April 18, 1999 anyway.

Oh ok, I am sorry.  I just remember all the advertising saying Raging Bull First Hyper coaster ever.  or something like that.

RB wasn't even the first hyper-twister. Fujiyama was. RB was the first US hyper-twister. Once again SF is messing up the ad campaigns.

It's VERY worth it. The drive (45-80 minutes) is worth it just for Viper and Whizzer alone, all the others are just icing on the cake!

American Eagle will start the season running backwards, but will not continue that way for the entire season .. Don't get your hopes too high on riding it backwards.

Try really hard to go on a weekday .. If you can only go on a weekend, make it Sunday. Saturdays can be a totally horror, try very hard to avoid them at all costs.
