Is SFGAm worth the trip

I am going to crystal lake illionios possibly for my baseball world series in july and i was just wondering if stoping by sfgam is worth a trip. If so about how far is crystal lake from sfgam if you might know for some reason
YES!  SFGAm is an awesome park, and if you in any way have any kind of grudge against Six Flags for the way they run their parks (which could more or less be deserved), a trip to SFGAm will show you that they CAN do things right (or at least I had that experience).  I'd have to say that SFGAm is my 2nd favorite big amusement park;  in my opinion, better than PKI, but not quite CP.

Great America is one of Six Flags' largest parks.  It is definately worth it.  They have the first B:TR, Raging Bull, the first B&M hyper, etc.  With 10 rollercoasters, it is definately worth a stop.
I though Six Flags St. Louis had the first B:TR? SFGAdv's B:TR is yellow... the original on was black, and featured a reversed layout to all it's clones.

well ok. but i really don't want to have my dad drive a long way on what is supposed to be a baseball trip. So if anyone lives in the chicago area is crystal lake about 1 hour away from sfam like mapquest says it is. I would really like to know because i don't trust mapquest at all
Go.

No...SFGAm had the first B:TR and it is black, I don't know where the yellow B:TR came from, becuase the only Yellow B:TR is in Texas (Yes I know the clone @ WB in Madrid is yellow, but you know...)

It could be an hour.  Mapquest tell me my trip is about an hour 45 minutes.  My actual driving time is about an hour and a half but I drive a little fast.  One hour from Crystal Lake sounds feasable.  Yes, you should visit and here's why.

Verticle Velocity, DejaVu, Raging Bull, the orriginal Batman, IronWolf (first B&M), Wizzer (Schwazkoff (sp), American Eagle (backwards), and if you have time, shockwave, and demon.  Worth a trip in my opinion.

Accually SFGAm's B:TR is deep blue. You can't tell in pics, but in line when you are standing near one of the supports you can tell if you look close.

But anyways, I'd say it's worth the trip. However, in July, crowds are horrendous. I hate going then, I prefer going in early-mid June, but that isn't an option for you. If you go, prepare for huge crowds.

I don't understand why this question keeps coming up. When is it not worth it to visit a park with a dozen coasters?

Unfortunately from Crystal Lake to Gurnee, there are no direct routes(highways, expressways, etc.) unless you want to travel way out of the way. An hour travel sounds about accurate if you take side roads.

As far as if its worth it? 11 coasters(12 if you count AE twice) sure sounds worth it to me. Along with that, it is one of the few SF parks that gets more positive reviews than negative.

OK, I might be a little biased because SFGAm is my home park but...

YOU HAVE TO GO!

There are 11 great roller coasters here to ride.  The park has a decent collection of flats and water ride to round out the park.  Of all the parks in the SF chain, this one cares most about it's customers and it still retains some of that charm that it had as a Marriot park.  It is also the only Six Flags park that can dispatch coasters at a reasonable rate and they run more than one train on most of their rides (V2 and Deja Vu being the obvious exceptions).  This park is also kept real clean too.

Bad side, crowds.  This park gets REALLY crowded on weekends.  This is the only major park near the Chicagoland/Milwaukee area.  Weekend lines are attrocious.  Weekday lines are much smaller and some ot the older coasters(Demon, Whizzer, Shockwave, Eagle) can become walkons during the weekdays.

Do not miss this opportunity of a lifetime to visit a real special park.

Cheers,

Depending on what way you go it should take an hour to get to SFGAm from Crystal Lake.  I highly recommend going to this park.  Feel free to email me and I can email you directions.  I dont trust mapquest.

Be sure and take a ride on the Whizzer.
An hour my butt- try more like 35 minutes at most. I can get to Crystal Lake, IL in about 45 minutes from Kenosha, WI, which is 20 minutes from SFGAM. Trust me it's not an hour. Later

If you can get to Gurnee from Crystal Lake in 35 minutes then I would like to witness this. What route are you taking and how far over the speed limit are you going? The soonest I would give is 45 minutes and that is if no traffic exists.
