Is Raging Bull Dying?

I honestly think it's a great coaster. I'm actually kind of glad that they trim it on the third hill because, think of how much brake they would put on the midcourse, and that would basically kill the rest of the ride, including the amazing drop and hill off the midcourse. On the third hill, there's still plenty of air to go around, even with the trim.

Bill, if Intamin made that layout it would be number one, definitely.;)

The thing is no Beemer Hyper gives the out of control feeling I crave abut they do give more of it then Millenium Force which just shows my general disdain for that ride.

I have had excellent rides on Bull which may up my opinion as well. Your talk of "Raging Steer" is based on one visit, correct Bill?

If given the choice I'd choose a hamburger over a hotdog anyday of the week.

Is there any pattern for when they run it trimless? I mean, certain days, certain events, anything? I'd like to give that a try someday.

And, really, why do we want everything to be made by Intamin? If Bull had been made by Intamin, it would have only opened regularily in 2000, broken 3 chains, and they'd have to add in new supports midway through the 2001 season. [end negative steryotype]

Raging Bull is best when you're first. [6/16/03]

The "death trim" which does kill the ride IMO is always on. The only way around this to my knowledge is to hit it after or during a rain.

You forgot the fact that if it was an Intamin it woudl have ejected two people by now. How's that for a negative stereotype?

See, all of my rides were during/after a rain, and I still liked Apollo better. Not sure if I'd give the same nod to Nitro, but Apollo was still the best of the three for me.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

Last Saturday, there were three trims operating...a heavy one on the third hill, the mid course block brake, and one towards the end of the ride.

It's OK. It's not a great ride. Whizzer is more fun. And Viper has a whole lot more airtime.

I was slightly more impressed with Raging Bull than I was with American Eagle.

Raging Bull can be boring at times, yet it can also be very fun. Sometimes it seems forceless, and other times it seems like first hill will never end. The ride is very "moody."

Something my friends and I do to make the ride more exciting is to sit in the very last row and then look backwards. Try keeping your hands up the first time you do that.

Deja Vu is down again. For some reason I feel like I already experienced this......

Chitown got it!

I find roller coasters are much more fun when I do not analyze every aspect of ride. I just go and ride, and have fun!

GamRCFreak said: The brakes on the camelback hill aren't there as trims. When they designed it they had calculated that the butterfly turn after the drop would slow the ride more than it does so they had to compensate by brakeing the hill. Otherwise it would tear out the welds on the track after a certain amount of time.

Uh...no. The trim on the third hill is *only* on because the park chooses for it to be on. There is no other reason (and it most certainly has nothing to do with "tearing welds out of the track" or other such nonesense).

Completely untrue. As it is right now, the trim on the third hill trims off speed, as well as the midcourse. Turning the third hill trim off would be much better, as even if the midcourse trimmed harder to compensate, the train would still leave the midcourse traveling at the same speed it does now. (Why? Because it enters the midcourse faster without the third hill trim).

The bottom line is that, though Raging Bull will never compare to any Intamin coaster, it *could* (and is) a much better ride without the trims. That is, the layout certainly isn't designed to deliver like S:ROS, but the trims do significantly hurt the ride.

Ask anyone in the non-enthusias(s)t community what they think of RB...they like it. Some of you seem to forget, enthusiasts are only a small percentage of the people who go to parks.

Not everyone overanalyzes the rides and calculates their ultimate top 10 coasters. Some people **GASP** actually ride them because they are fun and don't get their panties in a bunch because of a trim brake.

A lot of the experience (duh) is who you ride with. My rides on Bull have been very good (first time through) to startling (last trip with Chitown). I love the darn thing, can't you tell? Yes, it isn't perfect, but it's pretty great, and my fave Beemer by far. I guess I need to try AC again. It didn't do much for me my only trip on it, but I am not an Out and Back kind of guy either. Give me a twister any day.

Death on two legs
Redman822 is right majority is general public and you can tell by the look off their faces as they exit the ride is that they loved it. Even myself I tend to just enjoy myself and not be worried by the trims. The drop in the backseat is worth the wait alone. Yes the rest of the ride isn't the most incredible experience but it packs in enough punch for me to get off each time and say that RB is still one awesome ride.
George summed it up for me. Enjoy it for what it is. How many coasters out there have RB's type of layout anyway?

I still have yet to ride the Bull this year and encounter the trim hitting at all going into the figure 8 helix. Everytime it does the turnaround, then drops into the helix, it completely flies through the element.

The reason the wait is shorter than say Deja-Vu and Superman is because its a high capacity coaster. The crew does a good job pumping the trains out. Thats another reason I love this ride.

I love the Bull for what it is. Its graceful, the first drop still kicks booty, and the ride is just pure fun.

Shoot, even though the ONE day I got on Bull left me underwhelmed, I still think it's a LOT better than many many other coasters out there....don't tear Bull down, just give it back its test-tickles...;)

I don't have the time or inclination to *over-anal-yze* coasters when I'm AT a park, only when I'm stuck here at *work* sitting in front of the computer waiting for the phone to ring....(please don't ring, please don't ring)...

your company's name and logo HERE...effective advertising at great rates!

I think you're right to say "enjoy it for what it is". But....Chitown...one of the issues in this thread is whether "what it is" will be as effective over the long haul as, say, B:TR. As time goes by, people need more and more intensity to be thrilled. Also, among regulars at the park, I suspect the thunder of Bull's first drop has been stolen a bit by the vertical drops of V2 and Deja Vu.

Regarding the trims vs. layout debate, I would have to say that both are equally responsible. The ride would be better without trims, but still wouldn't be ferocious.

Bull is moody and yet still my favorite B&M.

Gator finally acknowledges the Man of Steel's superiority over X, though I'd still rather ride Mystique. ;)

boblo, I'd take Mystique over even SFNE's Ride of Steel....but I didn't see her anywhere in the park's "offerings"..;)

Bull is a fine coaster, a good addition to the park, and an excellent family ride....but I liked V2 better, and Whizzer, and Viper as well...;)

I love all the B&M Hypers, and look forward to many more of them popping up other places. (like MiA ;) sorry, I couldn't resist!) However, of the three US ones so far, I'd have to say RB is probably my least favorite.

Nitro is my current 3rd fave. coaster, and AC isn't far behind. I love the unbelieveable airtime you get riding those in the back seat! RB is great, but it's twister style layout puts it behind those other two, even though it's still great.

I would say that RB is probably still in my top 10 coasters, just behind the other two. It's easilly my favorite ride there at SF:GAm. I certainly wouldn't say it's dying, and I look forward to riding it again! Long live B&M Hypers! :)
