Did anyone ever think that maybe Mean Streak wasn't built to produce World-Class thrills?
Maybe it was built to be more of a family type ride.

The trim brakes they added recently really help in the roughness of this ride. in 00' the ride was really getting tough to ride with all the banging around you did not only at the bottom of the first drop but all over the entire ride. But if you ask me i still think its one of the best woodies around.
Meanstreak is a great looking ride!, but it lacks alot the speed it should have. The first drop is nice, but when you hit the trim it slows you down so much, the rest of the drops are taken at a slower speed, and did nothing for me, and I notced there was alot of turns on the ride that would be fun at maybe 30mph rather then like 15mph or slower. The only thing that saved it for me was its beauty. However it is not a bad as some have said, and I found it not the bit rough at all, as a matter of fact is was one of the more smoother woodies on my list, I think Gemini was rougher then MS, and one woodie in which MS may follow is Herculies or ("hurt ur knees" as I have heard) that coaster is just full of nothing after the turn over the lake, but again it is another nice looking coaster, and that is what saves it, what ruins it is the trim ontop of the lift.
I thought that the trims were put on the MS before '00. I don't see how the trims affected the roughness of the ride at all. If i recall correctly the trims were there before 2000 and to me 2000 was the roughest year for the ride. The coaster was retracked at some point wasn't it??
Personally, I don't care for it at all. I have had some decent rides on it, and some very boring and painful ones. If the line is very short, like it usually is, I will ride it.
Maybe we will see more quality woodies down the road for CP. :-)

I believe the coaster WAS retracked. However, trim brakes WOULD help the roughness. The slower the train goes the smoother the ride is going to be.

I think Mean Streak is an "okay" ride. I like it a little. One of the best things about it is the ride time. It is a LOOOOONG ride. If you can take the pain it dishes out, it is slightly fun. You just have to know that it isn't as good of a ride as it looks.
...And that's another good thing about Mean Streak, it's beautiful layout. When you first enter the queue, you see the coaster surround you. It is one of the best looking rides I have ever seen.
BUT-It IS a little rough-Okay, VERY rough, but I can still handle it.

In my opinion, I think that the Ozark Wildcat, going in at Celebration City will be a top 5 worthy wooden coaster next year.
How do you think it's going to be a top 5 when it isn't even built yet?

There is a new twist in the Top-Hat. :)
If they would just make the ride a lot smoother, like retrack it or oil it or what-not, I would ride it much more often. But until then, I'm only riding that (and Mantis) after I did all the other coasters when I go.

I am not the real Chris Sawyer.
I definately have smoother rides when the brakes are light or off. That i can say without any hesitation. It's like riding a bike on bumpy roads, if you go faster you tend to skip over the rough spots instead of falling into every hole (unless you wipe out on your face).
This past summer (2002) I rode it anyways, this time sitting forward in the car without leaning against the back. It was actually a pretty cool ride.
I remember opening year on MS and yes, it was a wild and out-of-control ride. I certainly miss that in MS. Too bad it wasn't built to maintain that sort of abuse.
I don't believe CP should tear down MS at all. Perhaps with a bit more tweaking it could be a great ride again.

And for the person who asked why Thunderhawk placed where it did--blame it on a trim brake that kills any airtime on the return to the station. Having said that, I still like it.
