"ok, I need advice here, my mom says since I'm a "picky" coaster rider, we should go to Ohio next year. Is Cedar Point worth a 400+ mile drive?"
If you're picky like me, then perhaps not. I've done
the drive from Central New Jersey to Sandusky, Ohio twice; once in 1997, and once in 2000. Neither
time did I find it worth the trip.
Mantis is tied with Chang as my least favorite B&M Standup.
Magnum is my least favorite hyper, period.
Blue Streak is one of the park's best, FWIW.
Mean Streak- A stinker of a wooden coaster. Well, at least it *looks* nice....
Disaster Transport's a funky indoor Intamin bobsled.
One of the park's better efforts, FWIW...
Gemini- A decent ride ruined by horrible Arrow trains.
Raptor is my least favorite B&M Inverted.
Iron Dragon is my least favorite Arrow suspended.
Wildcat's a low capacity Schwarzkopf Wildcat. One of the park's better coasters, FWIW...
Cedar Creek Mine Ride's an average Arrow mine train...
Corkscrew- A rough, outdated, Arrow loopscrew. At least it *looks* nice...
Woodstock's Express/Jr. Gemini- Woodstock is OK, traverses the the Lagoon. Can't ride Jr. Gemini without a kid...
Millennium Force: Along with Blue Streak, Disaster Transport, and Wildcat- this is the park's best. Aside from the anticlimatic first drop, and do nothing overbanked turns, the ride has a nice sense of speed, and a couple token moments of floater air.
Coasters aside, the park is quite nice. Although some of the employees are a bit overzealous and commando-like, the park's midway is full of atmosphere, and when MF isn't roaring by, Frontier trail can be quite nice and tranquil too.
Food-wise, a good meal can be had at Midway Market over by Raptor, and you've *gotta* try
Elephant ears.
They have a nice waterpark, Soak City, and as for water-rides, they're average.
If you want to combine it with SFWoA and PKI,
or SFKK and Holiday World, then sure. But if you're going strictly for coasters, you'd be better off at a park with some best in class coasters, insead of worst..
All in all, it can't hurt to give it a go once, although now that I'm more experienced, I can run off the names of many other parks I'd rather be at....
