Is Cedar Point worth a 400+ mile trip?

"I'd say so. I've convinced my parents to not waste all of thier vacation time from work next summer so we can go. Roundtrip, taking the Manitowoc-Ludington ferry across Lake Michigan, it's about 850 miles. Going around the lake it's about 950 miles I think.

Depending on where you are in Wisconson go Thru Chicago or across the UP'eh that would be fastest.
But if you want to go to Michigan's Adventure the Ferry puts you just north of Shivering Timbers.
Hell, I drive 300, 400 and 500 miles every weekend at 100 to 200 mph, I'll get you there in about 2 1/2 hours. Get in, shut up and hold on!!!

Yes, it's definitely worth the trip.

"ok, I need advice here, my mom says since I'm a "picky" coaster rider, we should go to Ohio next year. Is Cedar Point worth a 400+ mile drive?"

If you're picky like me, then perhaps not. I've done
the drive from Central New Jersey to Sandusky, Ohio twice; once in 1997, and once in 2000. Neither
time did I find it worth the trip.

Mantis is tied with Chang as my least favorite B&M Standup.

Magnum is my least favorite hyper, period.

Blue Streak is one of the park's best, FWIW.

Mean Streak- A stinker of a wooden coaster. Well, at least it *looks* nice....

Disaster Transport's a funky indoor Intamin bobsled.
One of the park's better efforts, FWIW...

Gemini- A decent ride ruined by horrible Arrow trains.

Raptor is my least favorite B&M Inverted.

Iron Dragon is my least favorite Arrow suspended.

Wildcat's a low capacity Schwarzkopf Wildcat. One of the park's better coasters, FWIW...

Cedar Creek Mine Ride's an average Arrow mine train...

Corkscrew- A rough, outdated, Arrow loopscrew. At least it *looks* nice...

Woodstock's Express/Jr. Gemini- Woodstock is OK, traverses the the Lagoon. Can't ride Jr. Gemini without a kid...

Millennium Force: Along with Blue Streak, Disaster Transport, and Wildcat- this is the park's best. Aside from the anticlimatic first drop, and do nothing overbanked turns, the ride has a nice sense of speed, and a couple token moments of floater air.

Coasters aside, the park is quite nice. Although some of the employees are a bit overzealous and commando-like, the park's midway is full of atmosphere, and when MF isn't roaring by, Frontier trail can be quite nice and tranquil too.

Food-wise, a good meal can be had at Midway Market over by Raptor, and you've *gotta* try
Elephant ears.

They have a nice waterpark, Soak City, and as for water-rides, they're average.

If you want to combine it with SFWoA and PKI,
or SFKK and Holiday World, then sure. But if you're going strictly for coasters, you'd be better off at a park with some best in class coasters, insead of worst..

All in all, it can't hurt to give it a go once, although now that I'm more experienced, I can run off the names of many other parks I'd rather be at....

one day ill drive all the way from san francisco bay area to OHIO and go to PKI, CP, and SFWoA.. is this trip worth me goin? from california? think for me hehe

REDWINGS 2002!!
If you live at home and your parent(s) wants to take you to CP, what is there to question?

Ohio has one of the best collections of coasters in the country. Before anyone starts flaming, yes California and Texas have more coasters blah blah blah. However if CP is 400 miles away, CA and TX are MUCH further.

I just returned from a long vacation in Ohio from Florida,(we flew). I took my wife and 6, yes 6 children. Everyone had a great time at PKI and CP.

Don't let some teenage boys dissuade you from enjoying your visit. I've found that most them are not quite truthful, and like to make up stuff to seem like an expert.

Even if you hate CP (which is unlikely) at least you can say you have been there. Many people on these boards who comment on CP or PKI or even SFWoA have limited long term exposure to these places. I grew up 3 miles from Geauga Lake Park NKA (SFWoA), and spent many summers riding the Big Dipper. In high school, CP was the park of choice. In college (before many of you were born). I worked at PKI. Both CP and PKI are world class places, SFWoA is not so hot right now, but give them a chance. They took a small park and have tried to turn into a resort. It will come together, eventually. *** This post was edited by CoasterDad64 on 6/26/2001. ***
Absolutely. I've been 4 times since 1997. From NC...............There is no place like it. It's worth the drive just to ride Millennium
So is PKI better than CP?
If you go to CP expecting the place to blow you away then you will be disappointed. However if you go with a positive attitude and want to ride great rides then you will have a great time. Just don't expect everything.

The best thing about CP is not that its rides are a lot better than any other park, but rather that they have more world class rides than most other parks. Few parks can rival the sheer depth of the coaster and thrill ride collection of CP. If you don't like one of CP's main rides then there are 4 more to choose from unlike many other parks where you might only have 1 or 2 other major rides to choose from.
Where else in the US can you ride two of the best Hyper coaster's in the world. Hell take the trip just to ride Millennium Force. I would drive that distance just to ride it. Nothing beats the first time you feel the Force.

(Assuming you live by Dorney, are going mainly for coasters, and you have a complete Track Record) If you want three of the best hyper coasters even closer around, go to Kennywood, SFA, and SFGAdv. Hopefully, you're not picky about your wooden coasters. If you are, KW, and I've heard SFA and even Hershey are better for that too. But if you love Hercules, you're going to love Mean Streak too. They're twinkies of a ride and need to be "fired" if you ask me. ;)

Also, I liked Steel Force(which still isn't *that* great) slightly better than Maggie and Talon looks slightly better than Raptor if that helps at all(I'm thinking you go to Dorney often). *** This post was edited by Koaster King on 6/27/2001. ***
