IOA Jurassic Area

I have heard rumors that IOA was planning a flying coaster, themed to petradon dinosaurs. Like in JP3. Does any1 have any info on this?

Just a rumor, nothing more. Been around for a long time.

its still just a rumour at this time. there were reports that this ride might not happen as IOA were unhappy with B&M flyers when they first saw them as there was no 'big boy' seats (and the normal seats are also quite restrictive) and so IOA feared that many of its visitors wouldnt be able to go on the ride, but now big boy seats have been developed for B&M flyers, it might be back on again, but no one really knows.

EDIT: damn, beaten to it again by peabody for the second time in two days!

I have logged some hours at IoA (bummer of a home park, huh?), and honestly I just don't see the space there for a ride of that sort...I recognize S:UF as relatively copmpact, but don't se the room necessary....unless...aha, they'd HAVE to take out the walk-through Triceratops Encounter....(not that big a loss IMO)...but THEN it would be workable....tight, but could be done....they need a woodie worse, though...:)
What about the space between the River Adventure and Flying Unicorn? I don't know what's on the other side of that hill (I know there's a school over there somwhere, but I thought that was closer to DD) but last time I was there it looked like there was a very sizable plot of land there. Remember that originally the idea was to add a seventh island at some point after the park opened, so there must be some chunk of land somewhere.

I don't know about that man. I don't think there was ever space for another island. There is a site out there that has great aerial shots of the FL parks, including IOA. Pre Flying Unicorn there is space for a large ride, but not an island. The rumor always used to be a Jurassic Park Jeep Adventure ride.

Check out the pic if you can, it really puts space into perspective.

Peabody, *thinking*...(always dangerous, so I'll make it short, lol) when BGT spent the big $$$ on their "Jeep Adventure", the industry oohed and aahed...ooh, aah...then RR opened, a jeep rolled, the public rode (once), re-ridership rates apparently were...disappointing...and the rumors were quelled...

For now, all I have for solid evidence of activity is at USF, where Kong is gone (long live the king), and the Jimmy Neutron experience arriving...not to be confused with the Jimi Hendrix Experience...I *wish*...oh, would that be an awesome ride....

There is quite an extensive space between the park land and service road in the area behind that quick service place and restrooms (I forget the name) which is in turn across from the triceratops attraction. Got to see it from the other side at the IAAPA buy-out last year, where they dropped us off at various points around the park, brought in via the service road.

But still... I don't put much stock in rumors like that.

Gator: If memory serves me correctly the word buzzing about that Jeep attraction was different from the Busch one. (I think it was even shown in some of the original models/concept artwork.)

It was more like a cross between coutndown to extinction and Kong.....I believe.....where you ride a jeep (indoors) through the T Rex area just like in the original movie where it's all dark and rainy. A scene would then take place where your jeep would get thrashed about my a T Rex. Is sounded VERY cool, but also very high budget and difficult to pull off.

I haven't heard any word about it for a long, long time.

Space for a big attraction, you bet! Space for another island, I doubt it. Check out the size of the show building for Cat in the Hat and Spiderman. That looks about the size of the land space there. (Flying Unicorn takes up some of that space now, no?)

Flying Unicorn was really wedged in there between the Dragons queue and, well, whatever is behind the trees. The footprint is really small.

That Triceratops Encounter is a big waste of space, in my opinion. I don't even think the kids react very postively to it. From the length of the queue line you would think Spider-Man was back there.

I have taken three different people in there and all of them were like, "ok, what was THAT?"

I see Jeff.....I didn't know exactly where it was. (Haven't been there since early 2000 :( )

The triceratops would better serve as a prop on the River Adventure... but I guess they had to justify spending big bucs on a single animatronic - so it got it's own attraction.

Besides... where else can you see a sick dinosaur take a leak on a ride op...

just a thought, instead of having a jeep chase, why not have a backwards flyer so things can chase you on that? it would be a good experience i think and maybe an airtime hump style hill with a t-rex leaping up at the train would be cool. just a thought

Maybe it's just me, but I think a woodie would be really out of place at IOA. I can't think of anything that they could theme it to (of course, I'm not a park designer) that would make sense in any way, shape, or form in any of the existing Islands. In all honesty, if they never made one change to the park, I'd still fly there once a year.

A Big wooden coaster might not be possible, i think it would be horrible. But you could have a wooden wild mouse coaster or a small mine train roller coaster, an indoor one like something along the lines of the one at Indiana Beach. That could be doable. But i wouldnt expect some giant Beast wooden ride. The park would look silly with it, not to mention a theme for it.

They used to have someone all through the Triceratops Encounter as a narrator. Now it's just a quick walk through until you get to the end and see the big Triceratops(Sara). I have 2 kids and they both love it. If you think it's going to be a big themed ride like Spiderman then yes, you will be disappointed.

Considering IOA is lacking a little for kids under 10 I don't think it would be a good idea to tear this ride down.
