Intamin Rockets - Why so expensive?

Aren't the "big" footers for #16 around 12 feet deep?

Phantomlives:

Mechanics have *little* say (if any!) in a park's future plans (not in Six Flags parks anyway). Heck, management hardly has a say when compared to SF Corporate. Six Flags is notorious for waiting until the last minute to decide on new additions, at which time Corporate shells them out based on attendance, competition, etc. So no, 2004 plans are *not* locked in place. They probably *will* get a coaster (based on SF's current strategy) but I''m sure that's *hardly* decided on at this point,. Because it all comes down to what Corporate says and will shell out.

maybe.. maybe.... Intamin enjoys money. That would explain why they charge money for building things...

Because if parks start removing coasters based on what enthusiasts think, they won't have any. Parks will only remove coasters if it cost more to run it than is worth it, if they can no longer replace high maintanance parts or if the ride presents a potential danger to the public. It costs too much money to remove coasters just because enthusiasts think it sucks. In the case of Flashback though, I would agree, it's time for it to go. But there is NO good reason to remove either Psyclone or Mean Streak.

Psyclone is just horrible. It caused me pretty severe pain in the ribs for a week after riding it, I was about to have my mom call the doctor and get X rays. Never again riding that POS. Not if i value my wellbeing. Pretty weird that the big culprit is B&M and their overweight coaster trains. If they would only get Millenium flyers or PTC trains, I'm sure it would be much better. Anyways, if you didn't feel the pain on the ride, it still sucks. The elements were similar to Ghostrider's if I remember correctly, but it just crawled through them. Pretty amazing that going through them at a lower speed than Ghostrider does causes a million tikmes more pain. Ghostrider can sometimes just bang you around in your thighs.

Flashback is open now, supposedly a little smoother. I doubt it though, since they probably did as little work as possible. The Guiness world records guys must be on their way to the park.

I can assure you that I am not the only one who thinks Flashback, Psyclone, and Mean Streak are not very fun.

Mean Streak is a maintenance nightmare. Apperintly they are working on it over the off-season (I read that somewhere over on GTTP), so perhaps this one can stay if it improves. The rate it is going, though, the park will end up paying way more than they bargained for.

Psyclone sucks in the eyes of all people, not just enthusiasts. Last February, I visited Magic Mountain. My cousin and her boyfriend, who had already been to the park before, said "Don't go on Flashback or Psyclone, they aren't very good and they hurt".

Besides, these are just my personal opinions that these rides should go.

Well you did ask the question, why parks keep unpopular rides. I guess the simple answer is, because they *can*.

I agree with your opinions, but I'm not fooling myself either. These rides aren't going anywhere, and records have nothing to do with it. I can think of plenty of parks that aren't involved in any kind of coaster race, that still don't remove coasters just because they're horrible.

"Hey, I beg to differ Jeff! I CARE about CP. Then again, I live in San Diego...

Amen, Jan. I live in San Diego too and am in the early stages of planning my first trip to CP. I've been on Xcelerator and was blown away. 400 feet? I wonder what cuss words will fly out of my mouth on that launch? But there is no war. I've been to Magic hundreds of times. I can take a day off of work and drive up to Magic (which I will be doing next week). CP, on the other hand, will be once every few years. And regardless of which park is better, I will be able to say that I have been to the two best coaster parks on the planet. Yeah, baby!!!

Maybe not directly, what seems to be suggested so far is actually asking them which they prefer. I agree I really can't imagine that happening. But if a park had two options one wood and one steel both of a similar price and the wood coaster would mean further enlargement of the maintainance dept. then That would go down as an extra cost and probably swing the choice towards the steel one.

Edit #1: The formatting seemed to change on posting.

Edit #2: It did it again!

I think another reason is because it actually takes more work and funds to remove an attraction and have it replaced than just to keep it up and maintain it.
