Anyone who "loves" a coaster doesn't know what love is.
Anyone who doesn't know to take this thread figuratively should probably lighten up a tad...maybe take a nice nap. We are all implausibly impressed that you know what love is, though.
I lov--uhh...I mean (gotta be literal, y'know): like, am fond of, am partial to, enjoy, am keen on, respect, admire, think highly of, appreciate, think highly of, approve of, have a good opinion of the Sooperdooperlooper at Hersheypark and Mindbender at SFoG. I love Schwarzkopf coasters! (Oops...)

Vater! You bad, terrible, horrible person! How can you say you think highly of a piece of metal? I am seriously offended at your trivializing of the phrase "am fond of" also!
... and not only that, but you said you loved a person you don't even know! who's dead! That's sick!
*sarcasm drips off the keyboard, making a mess on the floor*
I need to get some paper towels now ...

It is my opinion that you cannot be "in love" unless that love is returned. Otherwise, you're just infatuated.
But dont take my word for it, I'm just a rocket scientist...

Hey Vater, reread the first post. The poster said he feels so close to a coaster that he feels like he's in love with it.
That is not the same as saying, "I love Raptor" or whatever. That sounds awfully literal to me.
edit: 2Hostyl beat me to it, more elegantly, too. d'oh.

Can we change the name of Top Gun to your mom so no one wants to ride your mom?

lol den!
while i do think about coasters, play coaster games, draw coaster layouts, and things like that, i cant say that they are my top priority. friends and family are the first, but coasters are my #1 hobby.
i really miss things like raptor, millenium force, wicked twister, and mantis at cedar point, but i wasnt really in love with any of them.
I should have my head examined for continuing this debate, but I have to say for the record that I don't believe anyone actually thinks they are or could be 'in love' with a roller coaster in the literal sense. Even if you don't truly know what love is just yet (some of us never do, unfortunately), I'm sure you are aware that it's pretty much impossible to be 'in love' with an inanimate object...
...even though I am still in love with a dead guy. ;)

"...the thuds of their heads hitting against the restraints... " -- not if you knew how to ride it correctly - if you knew the layout, it really wasn't that bad ...
"I was dating Maggie for a while, but the relationship got too bumpy. So I dumped her for Millie - she's got curves!" -- I thought this was a serious discussion that involved a moral debate over wether or not its possible to be in love with a piece of metal or wood? Just who do you think you are to introduce comedy into this thread??
I like continuing this debate cause I think it gives me a chance to laugh at the humorless people out there ... and Vater, at least you're in love with a dead human - I'm in love with a fratricidal insect and a ghost story! This will cause problems further down the road ...

Pittdesigner, you don't know me. If you did, you'd know I'm about as light-hearted and carefree as they come. I just think, from the beginning post and many other posts I've read on this site, that some people, especially the kiddies, are taking their "love" for coasters a little too far.
I mean, don't you think saying you're "in love" with coasters is just a little messed up?

What's too far though? I think I'm taking it about as far as it can go - I'm 20 years old and I'm basically throwing away my education into the chance that I could someday design the ultimate coaster or better yet design, own and operate my own park. So I would say for me, coasters are a love. There are two types of love though - theres being in love with a person and theres being in love with an object or activity. If you asked most of these people (maybe a few really messed up ones wouldn't) they would put friends and family above coasters.
But they do love coasters also - as do I. If you think that's wrong then that's your opinion, but it just got to me when I see someone trash what I'm basing my entire education and career off of as something stupid where friends and family should come first. I'm sorry if I jumped to conclusions about you - it just got me fired up. I love the Mantis and I loved the Phantom and I love all aspects of coasters - if you think that takes precedence (sp?) over friends and family in my mind, then go ahead and think that, but you're wrong.

OK - let me explain what love means to me.
To me, love isn't some "tingly" feeling; it's a responsibility. It's a promise that you'll always be there, that you'll put the loved one before yourself, that you'll work through problems, not be spiteful but forgiving, etc., etc. I could list a hundred things that love is.
So you can see why I don't think one can "love" a coaster. You can make coasters your passion and you can enjoy them more than anything else in the world, you can dedicate your life to them, and there's nothing wrong with that. But you can't love them.
