How Does One Find Locals to Ride With?

When in doubt, there's always solace every March.

In my case, it's a family or Big Brother/Big Sister Organizational sort of thing.

I get my Godchildren and neices and nephews to go on the rides with me.

There are mentoring programs at Big Brothers/Big Sisters that you also can look into to get a disadvantaged youngster to experience fun at an amusement park that they haven't experienced. If I didn't have family or friends children to take to the parks, I'd probably be looking into a mentoring program. In fact, we have a local non-profit group besides BB/BS that takes local, underpriveledged inner-city youths to an amusement park a few times a year.

Personally, I feel that ALL children should experience an amusement park at least a few times during those years...yet, I don't think they should necessarily be 'spoiled' at the parks.

Actually, Dave, family is always number one. I'm just thankful I don't celebrate all those silly holidays, it leaves me free to go ride coasters ;).

Most of us spend holidays with family, and ride coasters the rest of the year. He rides coasters during the holidays, and then retreats to WV for the rest of the year. ;)

I take my family to indoor waterparks during the Holidays.

Maybe Clint should do that, too!

Let me rephrase.

I was never very good at meeting new friends, or women to...ah forget it. You know what I mean.

In my experience, it's always good if you have someone else that you have other things in common with. It may take a while to figure out what those other things are, but it makes for a healthier experience than talking roller coaster statistics non-stop.

yeah.. it's good to talk about flat rides every once in a while. ;)

I've taken a few kids who are family or friends to parks over the last few years. It's really renewed my interest in parks overall, seeing the parks through their eyes. The experience is new and amazing to them.

Actually, I had more coaster riding plans this summer, but ended up doing other things I like, like going to Myrtle Beach and NOT riding a single coaster. I was too busy drinking the Parrot Bay I bought on the way down whilst laying on the beach, and spending nites out with friends ;).

Regardless, I won't be hating anybody on the 17. Cause, you know, they'll be with me. Well, except the idiots who aren't coming (cough*Moosh*cought*RobBob*cough*nasai*). I'll be one of the few, the proud, the hated that day/weekend ;).

The best advice I can really give is how I met my slew of peeps.

Surf the boards and find someone within your region that posts stuff along the lines of what you think and feel. Look for personality traits like sense of humor and also for things like whether they like drop rides or won't ride any old wooden coasters.

Check out their member info, and email them and exchange IM names. Talk off 'Buzz about coasters and other stuff.

If they seem cool, plan a trip to a local park for one day. If it's horrible, go back to square one.

Bottom line is, most everyone here has something in common... coasters. That's a good bit to build on.

Most of my friends that I've met through coaster boards eventually become better friends without coasters period. Coasters are just one little thing we share in common as opposed to ALL we talk about.
