Come on, Tina...the Dippin' Dots guys don't lie ;)
I dont know if anyone mentioned this yet but my family has always called Six Flags Great America, "Mariotts". This is what SFGA was called before Six Flags bought the park. Also if I say I want to go to Great America my family will have no clue what I mean. I have to refer to SFGA as either Six Flags or Mariotts.

The Only Thing Worst Then Dieing, Is Living And Having Nothing Worth Dieing For.
Everyone still calls SFNO Jazzland. I have never heard one person I know say anything involving Six Flags. I however, say Six Flags.

"Punks are non-conforming conformists." "Preps rock my Docs." "Tell them about how I'm defying gravity. God! I can't get that song out of my head."
I used to say "King's Island", now because I write it so much in postings, I just say "PKI".
I usually omit the corporate name tag, and say "Magic Mountain," or "King's Island," or "Michigan's Adventure."

It's my own little private rebellion to the corporate idea that if they shove their names down our throats hard enough, we will somehow care more about that company and buy their stuff or become loyal to them or some such nonnsense. Mainly, I was annoyed with the similar stuff going on with arena's and ampitheatres losing good names to some corporate name. For instance, "Pine Knob" became "DTE Energy Pavillion," and "Irvine Meadows" became "Verizon Ampitheatre." As if I'm ever going to say I'm going to DTE Energy Pavillion. And as if I haven't heard of Verizon. I suppose it's their right, but I just get a little sick of the constant in-your-faceness of branding, and it extends to parks as well.

When I go to SFA, I usually say, "Six Flags", but most of the people I know understand what I'm talking about when I say, "I'm going to the park tomorrow."

But there are few people I know who still refer to it as Adventure World, or even Wild World!

Kingda Ka: The only coaster that felt faster than the advertised speed! To me at least.
GC: those names pale in (sucky) comparison to the ballpark the Chicago White Sox play in. First they tore down a wonderful park (I loved the roofshot homers) and crash landed a UFO in the middle of the projects as a replacement. Come to think of it, I'm *glad* they renamed it US Cellular Field as that monstrosity does not deserve the title "Comiskey Park".

GC, your scheme would work except if SFoG or SFoT were your home park.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

My homepark is SFGAm and my friends call it both Great America and just plain old six flags... I guess it just has to do with preference

Don't Fight It, Ride It, RAGING BULL!!!!!!- Six Flags Great America

Defeat the Enemy. Vote for Kerry in 2004!
I'll list the local ones:

Hersheypark = Hersheypark or Hershey

Dorney Park = Dorney Park or Dorney

Williams Grove = Williams Grove

Knoebels = Knoebels

Six Flags Great Adventure = Great Adventure

Six Flags America = Six Flags America

Paramount's Kings Dominion = Kings Dominion

Busch Gardens Williamsburg = Busch Gardens

I have found one thing with the Six Flags parks...

If they have a specific name behind them, they are often referred to by that name, but if they have a general area behind them, then the Six Flags and the general name are needed (ex: Great Adventure, Darian Lake, Great Escape often have the Six Flags dropped, but Six Flags New England, Six Flags over Georgia, Six Flags America usually keep their Six Flags label).

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
Geauga Lake- People almost always called it "Geauga Lake" a few though only called it "Six Flags" even when it was "Six Flags Ohio" or "Six Flags Worlds of Adventure."
Paramount's Kings Island- "Kings Island"
Cedar Point- "Cedar Pont" or "The Point"
IX-Indoor Amusement Park- "IX Center"

Although most catch on to what the hell I'm talking about... few need little more explanations:

Six Flags Darien Lake = "Darien"

Paramount Canada's Wonderland = "Wonderland"

Six Flags Worlds of Adventure = (well, used to be) "Worlds"

Martin's Fantasy Island = (duh) "Fantasy Island"

Cedar Po!nt = "Koaster Kingdom"

Great Escape = "Great Escape" (hmm, tough one to figure)

Six Flags New England = "New England"

I usually drop the Six Flags name, as it's easier to disginguish & I never grew up w/ a Six Flags park nearby me anyway!!

Is the "IX Center" pronounced "Eye-Ecks" or "Nine"?

(anyone remember that crappy moive/TVshow/game Ecks versus Sever?)
