How did you become coaster crazy?

My first big coaster I went on was Batman:  The Ride at SFGAm when I was around 12 years old.  I grew into loving coasters after that.  As a kid I always was amazed by them.  As I got older I kept on getting more interested in them.  I've been riding ever since.  What's your story?

Uh...No. This is a completly different subject than your stupid, unoriginal, and much brought up topic. Heck, I rode my first coaster...waited about 7-8 years...started looking a pics, and found CB...Shazaam!

I became coaster crazy after seeing an ad for Busch Gardens...way back in 93.
I got hooked when I first played RCT.  I had ridden roller coasters before but I hadn't really loved them.  Then a few years ago I rode Top Gun at Carowinds and the rest is history.

Paramount Carowinds: Forgotten but not Gone
I did not like the first coaster I ever rode.  It was the Scooby Doo at Kings Dominion in 1978, when I was 7.  I did not ride another until 1981, which was the Beastie at Kings Island.  I liked that experience better, but passed on riding any larger coasters at the park.

But the amazing thing about that trip to Kings Island was, the Bat was there and operating.  My father stood me up on the short brick wall that still exists by the Shake, Rattle and Roll.  We stood there for Lord knows how long just marveling at the Bat.  I would not ride, and my Dad did not push me.  He was smart that way.

That same summer I worked up the nerve to ride the Loch Ness Monster at BGW.  I rode with my first girlfriend ever, and she kissed me afterwards.  Of course, time has passed and many things have changed.  But one thing remains, I was hooked on coasters and have never looked back.

207 coasters later, I still can't get enough and still kick myself for not riding the Bat.  But I attribute the Bat as the actual catalyst for my fascination.

The original B&M sit-down Kumba!!!! the first year it opened, it completely blew me away. I had never ridden anything quite like it, so smooth and disorienting.

The world's a roller coaster and I am not strapped in, maybe I should hold with care, But My hands are busy in the air- Incubus
Score another one for Kumba.

The roughest part of a B&M is having to get off.

ROLLERCOASTERS....BETTER THAN OXYGEN BABY!!!!!!
well, actually I owe it  all to this British guy...he got me interested in  RCT and after I got interested in that I figured I might as well give coasters another try, so I went with a friend to SFMM and I got hooked.  So, I guess it is all because of Toby, my english friend. lol

What would life be like without coasters?
A big ball of poo!
The coasters that got me coaster crazy was the Beast and the Vortex at PKI.  Why both?
The Vortex helped me conquer my fear of coaster height and being upside-down.  As for the Beast I guess I didn't know what to expect.  I guess I was afraid of the unkown.  Both coasters were first ridden in 1994.  That'll tell something about me.  Now 42 coasters later I still get that urge to ride. Can't wait to ride another 42.

I was always afraid of coasters and would ride nothing bigger than a kiddie coaster until I rode Rock "n" roller Coaster. Now I'll ride anything that they build.

Test your coaster knowledge and take one of my sites online coaster quizes!http://www.geocities.com/woody13407/home.html

the REAL question is, "how did it not happen sooner"...almost thirty when BGT got me hooked, but it was Montu, not Kumba that put the monkey on my back...And I got a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop over twenty years prior to that!  I guess it just took longer for the bug to bite me...LOL.

Son of Drop Zone - PKI CoasterCamp I Champions!!!
I went to Magic Mountain as a kid with my dad. He dragged me kicking and screaming on to Colossus. I screamed all the way up the lift hill. When we came to the top I looked down and got this huge grin on my face. I have been hooked ever since.
When I was 2 my parents draged me on to all the Disney rides. I was very tall for my age so I fit no problem, but I was petrified of coasters after that. So When I was about 10 I started riding Disney rides agian and then I was fasticinated by coasters. I still was scared sick and hated to going to amusment parks, not beucase I hated it, but that I would possibly have to ride a coaster! Still when I would see Coasters on TV I would always stop and watch. So then came RCT when I was 13. I started playing it and loving it. I went to search for RCT sites one day and I cam across a Space Mountain page. I was hooked! I then started looking into Disneyland attractions, then I found this site! So about a month after that we had our 8th grade trip to SFMW. I waited 2 hours for Kong at SFMW (SLC) and when I rode going up the lifthill I was scared crapless, but whent he chain dropped my eyes shut and I screamed for my life! I would open my eyes as we were looping and grab as hard as I could to the OTSR. When the ride was over, I had never been happier in my life! Thats why I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Vekoma's and their rides!

Not MLK's words but mine..I have a Dream! I have a DREAM! I HAVE A DREAM I have a dream! That SFMM fans will be able to walk hand in hand with CP's!
AND no ONE cares what a coaster is and what a coaster isn't!

I came down with a nasty case of mono last December, which meant that I was stuck at home with nothing but my iMac to keep me company while my fiancee was at work. Since I was planning a trip to IOA, I started researching a little more about coasters. I was amazed to find an entire sub-culture of enthusiasts online, not to mention a wealth of information about rides and parks I'd never heard of.

Up until that point, I had always loved coasters, but wouldn't have considered myself an enthusiast. I've been to three new-to-me parks since then (BGW, IOA, SFWoA), and have planned a West-Coaster for early next year (SFMM, KBF, DCA) and another East-Coaster (SFA, PKD)that should get my track record somewhere around 70.

Plus, most importantly, I joined Coasterbuzz :)
