Hershey 04 - Let's see who is right

It's so wrong it could be right you know. Everyone knows how news reports screw up facts, and these are perfect examples of that.

It is indeed an article from the latest edition of Amusement Business Magazine.

I need to give credit where credit is due... (Hee Hee... elsewhere there is actually a fart contest going on about crediting the periodical it appeared in so thought I'd better CMA.. LOL)

I trust the source completely.

My personal opinion? I am suprised to see Hershey go the "launched/extreme thrill" route. I am curious to see what downtime issues it will face. I am curious to see how it get's "wedged in" to the area. I am curious to see how Hershey's guests react to it. I am curious to see how these inversions will factor into the layout. Most of all, I am curious to see the design of the trains/restraints.

I personally suspect they will not be the "typical" Intamin Xcelerator/TTD /Hyper/Giga trains. I *do* predict OSTRS will be in use. If not, then the lap restraints will need to be modified. I believe lap bars are only used on coasters with inversions if they surround the legs. That rules out the Intamin "T-bar" we have come to know and love.

And the article about Xcelorator going upside down was wrong about that, so just cause an article makes some mistakes dosen't mean it's not somewhat accurate. If ya'll look, I'm pulling for a Dive Machine(though I just though it could be a Euro Fighter), but this sounds more feasable(sp?)

Oh, and BTW, L-N-R, Shut up;)

Tekno, I have a question. Did my comment (see above) upset you? Perhaps I missed someone else's statement. Please let me know, I didn't mean any harm. You are funny if it's any help. :)

Whenever you can ride a roller coaster and experience 15 spots of intense airtime, you know you're on a good coaster. (see: Phoenix)

No, dude, that was for legendary, who said i wasn't funny. I appreciate that you like my humor, and i ment the "feelin the love" part!:)\

and the part for legendary was only sarcasm, not serious

You know it was a good ride when you come into the brake run saying, "Man, that was a good ride."

Man, I so beleive this is gonna be true! Finally, I'll be able to make a trip to Hershey Park next year and ride the new scream machine. I think there suppose 2 be having something like Roller soaker where u can name the new ride. How far is Hershey Park from Brooklyn anyway?

Does anyone find it strange that the coaster is supposedly only going to cost $10 million? For such a large coaster (and considering that "Accelerator" cost $13 million), that price sounds awfully low, especially considering the difficult terrain and the rides that have to be worked around during construction. Also, didn't Hershey state that this would be their largest and most expensive addition to date? If Great Bear cost $14 million and this is only $10, then how does that make sense?

$10 million could just be the ride system, not including earthwork, construction costs, etc. I could see $10 mill just for what 2,600 feet of track and a hydro-launch (maybe). As far as the mispelling of Xcelerator, I've rarely seen it spelled "right" outside of enthusiast and local-Knott's circles anyway - logic for someone who doesn't really know the ride would say its spelled "accelerator".

If this truely is the layout and such, not only am I pumped about the announcment tomorrow (might get me up a few minutes earlier than I have to just to check the website out!) but this might make Hershey my most visited park next year ... sorry CP ...

Actually, I don't figure it is going to be *large* as many may percieve it. This thing will top out at like 195... so think Magnum height.... or just 30 feet taller than Hypersonic.

Perhaps the launching system also has something to do with cost. Let's hope they use a better method than TTD.

I can see the signage now... "Sorry Pa'dners.... this here Stamped has been corralled while we re-shoe them there horses." Let's hope Hershey will have better luck getting this thing off the ground. I love the park and would hate to see them face such downtime issues.

Anyway, the park has stated that this will be the second largest investment they have made... so that puts it just behind the $14Million Great Bear.

While this may seem like an odd move for Hershey, I think it's a good one. Sure, it may have some down-time, but the layout, (when compared to Xcel) looks awesome. Hopefully, this will bring in another record attendance year for HP in '04, and we'll be able to see more unique attractions from Hershey (like we've been seeing). I'm also curious about whether OSTRs will be used.

Now if Dorney would also get a Rocket... that would be awesome... 2 Rockets within 2 hours from me :)

3r1c, not to get off topic or spoil your wishful thinking, but I don't think Dorney will get a rocket or even a coaster for 04. Just because of the fact that this coaster will be advertised greatly and Dorney doesn't want to compete with that.

Brendan, who although is a major Dorney fan, is going to try to get out to Hershey on a weekend in May because he is really excited about this new ride.

I know there is little chance of Dorney getting a Rocket, and as you said, it's just wishful thinking. I was just saying it would be very cool if there were 2 rockets in the area. I could see them getting a Rocket in the future though.

That depends if they have one planned already. If they already have one planned, I doubt they'd drop their plans just because Hershey is getting one. As far as Hershey's goes, I can't wait to ride it! Hopefully it has lab bars, not OTSR though. We'll find out tomorrow!

Webmaster,

J2S, you do make a good point. But I'm just pointing out that it probably wouldn't happen because for a little while Dorney was rumored to also receive a rocket. But, it seems they will get an impulse if they get a coaster for 04.

I think Intamin will use the trains they use for their loopers (Colossus) as they're almost the same as the hyper and rocket coaster trains for Hershey's rocket coaster. Why make the work so much harder and make a whole new restraint when they allready have one that works fine.

The thing about the hieght is that the structure itself isn't going to be that massive...say like a lift hill... which takes up a considerable height AND length, this is more like a tower...just straight up. At PKD for example, Anaconda and even Volcano look much larger than Hypersonic, but in fact Hypersonic is the taller of the three. The same could be said of the Eiffel Tower and Drop Zone, whihc the former is more imposing and appears larger but the latter is really the taller structure.

As for launch issues..third time's a charm, right? Well I hope so, I'd hate to see them struggle with downtime issues on their star attraction.
