I hope to hit HP, DW(not Dollywood, Dutch Wonderland!), CP, KG, maybe PKI, CLP(that one took me a while), Waldameer(what the hell is the abb. for that???) and something in Ocean City, MD this year. All great parks FWIW IMHO! TTFN!

How true. I remember my first post way....way back in 2000 was in an IOA thread. I was basically complaining that Great Adventure doesn't get as much attention as Magic Mountain. Not only was I off topic, but I was being like a whiny tool not unlike many of the neo's here today. Ofcourse the community is a lot more boorish today, where as back then I was just ignored. But anyhow, they'll learn in time.
I agree that the acronyms can drive you crazy, but this is true in any subculture, many jobs (heathcare is really bad, but understandable), and in many hobbies. I work in live sound, and I also record and write my own music on the computer. The number of acronyms will drive you up the wall, and it only keeps getting worse. The only thing I can recommend to do is to try typing the acronym into a search engine and ask "What does XYZ stand for?" (that would be an acronym meaning eXamine Your Zipper) I had to to this recently with something I kept seeing the acronym for, but couldn't ascertain its meaning by context alone.
Not people, me. And you're welcome for getting that one started ;) In case you were wondering the park loves that acronym and asked me when the ride opened if they could use it on Lost Coaster merchandise.
People sometimes need to be reminded that at one time they were new here too. At sometime in your past, and very likely sometime in your future, you will be the new person again. It might be at a job, new neighborhood, maybe even a coaster event.
I'm not in disagreement with you. The experience of being the "newbie" is something all people can relate to. But IMHO as it pertains to CBuzz being a newbie does not excuse certain behavior such as being a troll, asking questions that can easily be found with a quick internet search, or starting a slew of new topics in an effort to get heard just to name a few.
Just because one is a newbie doesn't excuse one from trying their best to "fit in."
Obviously YMMV.

LoCoSuMo was born out of my need to not have to write out the entire ride's lengthy name every time I wrote about it here. It was all quite innocent and I never expected it to catch on with anyone...especially anyone outside of CoasterBuzz or the kind people at IB.
Who'da thunk?
However if you mention that to a op in the park, You get some weird stares. Of course there are some ops who know what it is too.

Which is why I added the next several paragraphs. I'm not saying newbies shouldn't be kept in line or be expected to follow the rules. I'm just saying there's a right way and a wrong way to go about it.

Yet another acronym that took me and others a while to get. YMMV, or Your Mileage May Vary.
As used in a Coasterbuzz thread-- "So how are the lines for Millennium Force in July?" Reply: "I waited about two hours but YMMV."
Translated: You may wait less than two hours or more than two hours. And that's the Intamin Fan TOTD (tip of the day). Yeah, I agree, it probably won't catch on. *** Edited 5/1/2006 3:48:31 AM UTC by Intamin Fan***
Yah, I enjoyed acronyms initally....but now I prefer to write things out (with LoCoSuMo being the exception IMHO). ;)

n00bs should have to pay their dues just like WE had to, back in the day, when we had to walk uphill, both ways, barefoot, in snow up to our chests, just to get to our one-room schoolhouse.
Hehe....Monday is "everybody gets to be evil day"... :)

Don't feel bad on the abbreviation thing. While I've got a grip on the BGW/BGE thing I'm still constantly screwed up on the Six Flags abbreviations.
And I can't leave out the Canada's Wonderland/Carowinds (PCW/PCar...I think, oh no, not again!) thing...it messed me up for a while too.
Examples are:
Which is true. I don't remember seeing as many fuzzy hats at park. I did think this topic would quickly fizzle out so I didn't post it.
After thinking a few seconds about this topic I couldn't think of anything except plasic and I don't think that it would hold up that great.
I thought that a topic such as this would be taken the wrong way.
My band "The Cedar Kings". "Ordinary Day" a trip report in song.
