Has B&M fallen off

In its first year of operation BKF at SFWoA had a bad day and felt like RWB, but the next week it was back to its usual smooth as glass feeling. I think that the roughness experienced on some B&M's is caused by not so perfect maintenance. The rides that you have experienced may have just been a bad day for that train, and not even the ride at all.

havent been on nitro or medusa, but a possible coincidence that they are both in the same park?

IMO, intamin seems smoother to me than B&M does. and with a variety of B&M's(raptor, mantis, incredible hulk, dueling dragons, alpengeist)i still think that intamin continues to give the smoother ride(volcano, millenium force, wicked twister, S:RoS).

Although B&M has made smaller loopers lately(I want more Montu's and Alpengeists!)this is hardly their fault. Talon cost just as much as Alpengeist at $13 million even though its half the size, meaning parks probably can't afford absoultely huge rides(Riddler's Revenge) so they opt for smaller versions(Georgia Scorcher). An Alpegeist or Riddlers sized ride would now cost $20 million. And besides B&M can't fall off until someone kicks them off, which Intamin can only do when it expands it ride arsenal.

Didn't Batman the Ride and The Riddlers Revenge just have pretty major breakdowns at SFMM?

The SFMMInsider... coming soon

I just got back from a trip to the park all day Saturday and half of Sunday. Riddler and Batman were both running fine.

Yeah, I had some problems with headbanging through the corkscrews on B:KF, but that's the only B&M that's ever been a headbanging problem for me. After riding Orient Express and Wildfire within a week and a half, I've realized how far coaster smoothness has really come.

I have not experienced a bad B&M either except for a couple of rides on BKF last year where the wheel on the car I was in made the ride bumpy.

My favorite steel coasters are B&M.

Hyper - Raging Bull
Invert - Alpengeist
Stand-up - Riddler's Revenge
Floorless - Batman Knight Flight

And think about it. As far as loopers are concerned, what company can you compare B&M to? Arrow? Their multi-loopers are nearly unridable compared to B&M's (sans Tennessee Tornado). Intamin? There aren't many Intamin looping coasters. Vekoma? No.

As far as looping coasters are concerned, B&M is the hands-down winner. Some think they produce forceless rides, which isn't true, but when you consider the alternative, there's no way they can be beat.

have you been on goliath or mf . if you have you probobly would not call nitro smoth or intense infact it is the roughest B&M I have been on and its only a year and a half old . it is also the least intense hyper i have been on. not a bad ride just not the best hyper.

I'm shocked no one caught this...
The roughest B&M you've been on? Let me see if I can guess your extensive list of every B&M you've been on. Here goes:

1. Nitro

God forbid you ever ride a TOGO or Son of Beast. When did they start making coaster enthusiasts so frail?

Please say B&M is not B&M are.

For example: Bolliger and Mallibard are tired. (the people)

Bolliger and Mallibard is a top coaster company. (the company)

While you're correcting, might as well spell it correctly (Bolliger & Mabillard).

Yah, but take into consideration, this is coming from the weirdo who wants to go back in time and ride Steel Phantom!

I hate rough steels. I love really, really, rough woodens.

A couple light bumps is not rough. A RESTRAINT SLAMMING INTO YOUR HEAD UNBEARABLY HARD IS ROUGH. Don't cha luv Arrow? :)

I would love to go back in time and ride Steel Phantom, too. I love Arrow coasters.

So many of you just don't get it....

B&M do not run their coaster installations, the parks do. If your ride on a B&M was rough, over-braked, or whatever blame the park, not the manufacturer.

SFMM15, I have rode many other coasters. Nitro was the smoothest for me. Nitro IS smoother then MF. I have rode MF around 25 times so I know what Im talking about. Nitro is butter smooth. MF is extremely smooth too, but vibrates a little more.

Arguing whether which is smoother, Nitro or MF, is like arguing over which feels colder, water that is 40* or water that is 39*...I doubt you could really tell the difference and, really, does it MATTER?

It always makes me smile when Mamoosh lights someone up-keep doing what you do, my friend.

No love for the whiners

Overall I think B&M is the best designer today, followed closely by Intamin. The Giovanloa coasters didn't really "do it" for me.

OK, let’s run down the list of B&Ms I’ve ridden:

Inverteds

Montu – incredible

Talon – excellent

Great Bear – smoothest ever (IMO) with very innovative layout

Dueling Dragons – Fire is great, Ice is good

Raptor – good

Batman at SFGAm – good

Others

Raging Bull – incredible opening drop (especially good because of the design of the top of the lifthill), most comfortable seats I’ve experienced, great air

Hulk – solid looping coaster, great launch

Kumba – rough when I rode it

Kraken – incredible

Batman Knight Flight – good

Chang – my favorite standup coaster

Iron Wolf – too much headbanging

Mantis – good

That’s 15 of the 35 B&Ms operating in the US and the 49 in the world. Only two of them are rides I’m not that fond of (Kumba and Iron Wolf). To be fair, maybe I didn’t give Kumba enough of a chance, since I only rode it once. The point is, I enjoy riding 87% of the B&Ms I’ve been on. I don’t claim to be the authority on what makes a coaster good, but to me 87% satisfaction is pretty good. Is B&M on top? I don’t know, but I DO know they design great coasters.

Here is a thought....Have you ever heard the general public come off a B&M and say that ride wasn't smooth, or wasn't intense??? Answer....NO. Why? Because they dont care how it rides, as long as it gives them a thrilling experience, and that is what the park wants. They want the riders to have a thrilling experience. You will never see a guest come off of NITRO and say, "That ride was boring, it wasn't intense." I wish enthusiasts would stop criticizing these rides because remember, they weren't designed specifically for you. They are built to give the general public a new thrill. The GP dont travel all over the US in search of other rides. Most GP only visit one park a year, and that park wants to have a ride there that will thrill the guest and make them want to return.
