Hades @ Big Chiefs

Nice pics. I hope there is a ton of air on that hill inside the first hill's support structure. That looks like fun.
Coaster Junkie...Excellent slide show! Thanks for putting that together. Hades looks like it's going to be an insane ride. Check out that dropping swoop curve!

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
So how much energy will Hades have? I fear that a few parts of Hades may be slugglish especially the 90 foot tall turnaround and the 60 foot tall hill next to the the 130 foot lifthill. Figure at least 20 feet or more underground and this is equivalent to a 150 foot tall lifthill trying to have enough energy to make it up a 110 foot tall turnaround with an 80 foot tall hill after the return tunnel if the whole ride was above ground. I'm sure the ride will make it to the turnaround and that hill next to the first drop but I think it will be slow there. The first drop and tunnel portions of the ride should be good and fast but why put in any dead forceless hills into a ride? It is just a waste of track especially that hill by the first drop. Also please be aware that there are several turns in the tunnel which will use up some of the energy. OTOH that 60 foot hill (above ground) "may" have a large steep drop after it providing a high speed ending through the wood. *** Edited 7/25/2004 5:32:41 PM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***
I think there is only one major turn in the tunnel. Remember that on Shivering Timbers, the second and third hills are pretty close to the height of the first hill, but still deliver big. I think that the run up the turn around will have air in the front at least, the hill after that before it drops back into the tunnel will have major air in the back and front too, and I think the hill back over Zeus will have air in the front and back. It is too early to be sure, but that is how it looked to me when I was there. Keep in mind that since there are not several large hills in the tunnel, the train will easily maintain most of its speed. Also keep in mind that the people who designed it have many coasters under their belts, and they don't have many duds. *** Edited 7/25/2004 6:21:51 PM UTC by RavenTTD***
Shivering Timbers is a great example of how when looking at the design of the ride; you wouldn't expect it to maintain all that speed throughout. And I believe that some of the folks who built Shivering Timbers are working on Hades as well. Taking risks and defying expectations is what makes these cutting edge rides world class. And if it does not work, what a tragic waste of tunnels and track that would that be.
Pinball Lord and I were peeking at the inside of the tunnel entrance near Zeus before they started construction on the first drop and the track turned to the right from the bottom of the drop. Also I've seen some pictures of the tunnel before they were covered by the parking lot and it appeared to be zigzagging a little bit.
I was at Mt. Olympus on Sunday and all I can say is wow! You really have to get up close to realize how much track is underground. The entire upper parking lot covers the underground track. I would have to say at least 2-3 football fields if not more. Plus the drop along side of the initial drop will be steep and provide major air. The romp through the woods will be a trip. This coaster could be just huge. Also the dive back into the tunnel will be sweet with some airtime to boot.

On a side note, while on Dive to Atlantis I noticed a whole mess of land. Does that all belong to this park? There is quite a bit of land back there.

I think a lot of that land is owned by the Wisconsin Deer park which is located a few buildings down from Big Chiefs but their land stretches behind the buildings next to it and abuts with Big Chiefs. When I was at the Deer Park a few weeks ago, I could see the far off back sections of Zeus running from there and you could certainly hear it.

Certain victory.

Man, I can't wait to see a layout diagram of this beast. It's sounding like a combination of the Legend and the Beast.

Legend and Beast? Thats a weird comparison as the coaster doesn't look to be very latterally charged. Timbers and Beast maybe.

Mike from TGG told us that the coaster would have many non conventional elements. He could not elaborate more and the Pic's look awesome.

I don't think these guys are going to incorperate any wimpy areas into this ride. They and Mt.s Olympus are trying to make a statement.

Could they place a loop in the ride. Talk about non-conventional.

"the coaster doesn't look to be very latterally charged.'

You need to see the land cleared out in person. You cannot see it in the pics I posted, but there are markers everywhere thru those woods and it looks like tons of turns. Also, there are footers for what looks like half a helix and it has double wide supports like inside the tunnels so it could be two tracks wide. *** Edited 7/27/2004 9:44:46 PM UTC by RavenTTD***

I'm thinking more of a cross between The Boss and Tremors.

How about some brand new pictures? The slideshow was fron last Friday. I'm sure a lot have been done since than.
My comparison of Beast and Legend was based on the way the layout seems to be spread out all over the place with the tunnels and the talk of a winding section through the woods. The swoop drop made me think specifically of Legend, but I like the Tremmors comparison too. Either way, I haven't been more interested in a new coaster since 1999 when Millie and Sonny were announced. Of course, once the layouts were revealed, I was very disappointed.

I was there over the weekend (Sat, Sun, Mon). No construction was taking place any of those days.

Now it has been at least 10 days since the most recent pictures have been on the internet. Lets see some brand new ones for a change. Hades is going up very very fast!
I went back and got more pics on 7/31. This time I was able to rotate them, but they all got resized smaller so they are not as clear. I counted levels of supports on the tallest drop and I think it was 20.5 or 21.5. I was guessing about 130 feet above the ground at the highest point. There is a new turn they are constucting and more footers are being made for the first hill. MtOlymups no longer charges a spectator fee so I was able to go in for free to take the pics. Timber Falls now has a $14 evening pass, so I saved there too. And in case I have not said it enough, Avalanche rocks!

WOW!! Thanks for the update.

That helix looks pretty tight...the coaster will have to burn off a lot of speed before hitting that thing...and those clearings look big enough for a whole lot more coaster.

Anybody thinking potential world's longest?

If I had to make a wild guess on final length, it would be between 4000-4500 feet. But I really have no clue.

I think my host resized the pics because I have so many on there. If anyone wants some of the old ones earlier in this thread, you should save them. Soon I will take them all down and try to put up some of the new ones one at a time to see if I can get them larger. I can see my coppies much better than the ones posted.
