Hades @ Big Chiefs

No, Rob...but I have one you can ride ;)

I liked Big Chiefs...great go-cart tracks. The three existing woodies left me underwhelmed. This year they only had kiddie rides...I hope that changes next year, I'd like to see some adult spin-n-pukes.

And I admit I'm concerned about Hades. There is A LOT of flat track in that tunnel. But I won't judge until I ride.

How do you know there's a LOT of flat track? You have X-ray vision? eh? ;)

At 90* banking, I really don't consider that "flat", mOOShy baby.

BCK&C?? Are you still living in a past you've never been to Bill? Don't you mean MtO? ;)

Opps, my bad Mike, LOL. But for me, MtO will always stand for "Made to Order".

gator, recent convert to Sheetz...but you'll still never get me to drink Moxie (not AGAIN, anyway)...;)

Anyone have any updates on construction???

The park is now closed for the winter. Even if I drove all the way out there, they would probably consider it trespassing to go in the park to get pics. The major design of the ride outside the park in the parking lot is already complete in the latest pics.
there is a new update on The Gravity Group's website, which shows the part of the ride in the woods: http://www.thegravitygroup.com/hades.html

Man, I hope they are putting an elevator on that station!!! It looks just as bad as Zeus, if not worse! And check out that drop out of the station! Wowy Zowie!

Bob,

who has used up his quota of exclamation marks for the month...

Ya that's horrible and that's coming someone who doesn't really mind arrow shuttle loops. Rerides are going to be a pain.

Drooooool. I love the drop out of the station. The rollover looks sharp enough to yield some air in the back of the train--what a great way to start a ride! *** Edited 1/17/2005 11:32:42 PM UTC by Matt Scott***

I am concerned about that big 60 foot hill (crossing Zeus) after the end of the second tunnel on the return leg that it would be a slow spot in the ride not producing anything (airtime). I would hope at least some floating airtime on that hill otherwise it is a total waste of track. The appoach to the lifthill looks really good and there looks like some good hills after the big hill (crossing Zeus) at the end of the ride. And who knows what the rest of the tunnel will do besides the 90* banked curve? I hope to be off my seat at least 8-10 times in the back seat on Hades. The "first drop" looks like it will be the best woodie drop in the USA if not the world! If Hades delivers as expected than it has a very good chance at being my new #1 and I WILL have to move from MN to Wisconsin Dells or Madison. *** Edited 1/16/2005 1:02:22 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***
This ride looks absolutely ridiculous! I'm so excited! Anybody think this ride could take everyone by total surprise (if we haven't already been blown away)?

I fear anticipointment, however, as it stands, I am very excited for my first and subsequent rides. I just hope it's as wonderful as it appears.

Then again, I still don't understand the love that people shower for Tremors, so I don't ride the wave of what's hip anyway.

I think they are making a huge mistake only having one train for it. 5000ft coaster. Now thats 5 minutes a cycle including load and unload.

Glad Im going before the con and not durring.

Chuck, who looks foreward to 5 new wooden coasters in the Dells :)

They don't need to run more than one train. I have yet to see a line at that park for ANY coaster, let alone a full trainload, even on weekends. The go-karts are where the lines always are and my guess is with the water park added, they might get a little spill-over, but not enough to warrant two trains. The only time they will need extra trains will be during CoasterCon weekend when all the enthusiasts are in the area.

Certain victory.

Yep, I think Bob is right on that one. I have been there on a few Saturdays and only had to wait for the karts. The most for a coaster was only 1 or 2 trains.

On the other hand Con is going to be a nightmare. How big are the trains, 6 or 7 cars? Let's say they were 7 cars long, that is 28 x 20 cycles per hour. 560 pph is just awful when you have at least that many people in line for ERT.

You think thats bad, what about all the folks that go out to get their Avalanche credit. That train only has three cars with two rows each!!! :D

Confuscious roller coaster god say: get there early or suffer long wait like SFMM.

I did not know that there was a new photo update, so I called the park and got permission to go take pics on Saturday. I think I will still go, but the photos look great. If all goes as planned, I hope to have new pics up early next week.

edit: Looking at those pics, there should be a lot of air on this ride. The first hill (not counting that nice looking drop out of the station) has about a Mean Streak size drop, and it uses that speed to go over nice hops. Keep in mind that although you may think it will lose a lot of speed coming out of the tunnel, the part inside the park is a much lower grade so I think it will be going very fast.

edit2: The GG site says the world's steepest banking for a wooden coaster. I wonder if that is in the tunnel? Wouldn't that be cool. *** Edited 1/17/2005 11:56:02 PM UTC by RavenTTD***

I believe the 90* curve will be inside the tunnel. When the merger was announced last fall it mentioned about the 90* banked curve inside the tunnel. I'd still take pictures if I were you because those pics on GG site may be close to a month old by now!
