Gotham City loses ride @ SFA

Oh ok! Just an Idea I had. I love to see the park do more with this area they have in GC.

Why would they need to take the entire ride down just to retheme it? that doesn't make sense at all, also did anyone notice that after PBR opened they added a new sign which read simply "alpine bobs" to the ride entrance area?

VARyda, let me guess your VARoller from SFN right? well I'm known as SFA PKD Freak over there & I see that you must've just read my post from this morning over there.

I'm sure the park had a good reason for removing it but popularity wasn't one of them because that ride (when open) always had quite a line compared to sky escaper, which was always a walk on & maybe they might have better plans for the area but only time will tell.

Maybe they are moving the ride into a different part of Gotham City and rethemeing it. But if you read above Sam cleared it all up that it is getting worked on. Cool your jets killer. Nobody is bashing your park or anything!

Crashmando,I think I'd trust what I-Fan is saying when he tells us that the park has decided to remove the ride alltogether, after all he does work at the park in a section adjacent to the ride.

Does anyone think that the area once occupied by alpine bobs would be a good location for a top spin? we were supposed to get one & it was on site back in 99 but it got sent to SFDL instead.

Im surprised they still have their rack for it, Sam. From the looks of that photo, and from the way they designed the wood gates for it, it looks as if they ordered it specifically so they could move it around the park if they needed to. But theres really no reason to move it, not that they would have reason to.
Ok, so it's not leaving. I'm glad to hear we're not losing another flat ride (actually we haven't lost Sky Escaper, it's just SBNO in two separate spots), as this is quite popular with the kiddies.

So I-fan...are those words tasty? You certainly seem to eat a lot of them. Remember when you said you were sure SFA was getting a new coaster for 2003 and that track was at the park....? LOL!

Hey mOOSH

It was BATWING SFA FAN that insisted on the new coaster being in the park already.

If they're just making repairs to the ride does anyone think that we might see it back in operation for frightfest this year?

It's a good little ride & is actually a bit better if you ride after dark,I did that once last season & it was insane when running backwards, the only thing they really need to do to it is give it some more speed when running forward though because it doesn't get real good until it goes in reverse.

While on the subject of ride repairs & downtime does anyone know or think there may be a chance that JJ will be running during frightfest this year? the last few seasons it's always been clossed but back in 99 it seemed to run just fine duriing the month of october.

Don't count on it, the issue is sound, not temperature, once those trees begin to drop leaves the neighbors on the backside of the park get a louder than usual park, and the county requires that there be no more than a 50 decible noise from the park on the border.

SAM

I thought so,JJ has been getting a bit louder over the years hasn't it?

It almost has that distinct B&M sound to it these days, that & it can be heard all the way from the main gate which is quite a hefty distance away.

Whoa Mamoosh, watch who you're throwing those insults at. It was definitely Batwing FanSFA who thought we had Mice track on site. And, Alpine Bobs, looked more ready to be packed away today then on Wednesday. The roof was gone, and maintenance was grouping all the sweeps together. I work all weekend, so we'll see what transpires. They could be relocating it.

BatwingFanSFA, I don't believe JJ has gotten any louder over the years. It's still as loud as ever, and I should know since I worked the ride today due to Sonora Speedway being shutdown because of rain.

My bad....sorry, I-fan. Still, it's wise to have the correct facts about new rides and ride removals.

Mooshter's Dawntionary is closed until Monday.

I was at SFA on Thursday and they were dismantling the ride and placing it on a truck. Is this necessary as part of repairing it?

Also, since we have frequent guests/park employees reading this thread, could someone answer a couple questions for me?

First, why were the ride ops on Wild One giving me a hard time about my sunglasses (which I keep on a very tight strap whin I'm riding) as in not letting me ride with them, when all the other ride ops on the park let me ride all the other rides with them on?

Second, S:ROS was running only one train, effectively doubling the wait for the ride. I asked oneof the ride ops why the second train wasn't running and she said that there was something wrong with the brakes. I was that there was a wheel assembly off the train but couldn't see where there wheel(s) missing. I thought the brakes were electromagnetic, using the fins on the sides of the trains. Was the op misinformed as to what the problem was with the second train or was there some kind of glich with the blocking?

Third, how many trains are they able to run on Batwing during the week? Whenever I've been there this year, they've only been running one train, which makes the wait longer than the ride is worth.

I am the TickTockMan

Which train was down on S:ROS? I've been hearing that blue train is giving them a bit of trouble lately.

I know that when I was there in june it got stuck 3 times during the course of the day & blue train was always stuck on the lift in all 3 instances.

As for the ride ops at Wild one not allowing you to ride with your sunglasses despite having a strap I don't know what's up with that,my friend always has his on with a strap on all the coasters & they never say anything about it so this is news to me.

The reason why Batwing rarely runs more than one train is simple,it's a vekoma that isn't worth the $17 million that SF paid for it when it comes to reliability, although last time I was there it did manage to operate without any breakdowns,so I guess that's a small step in the right direction.

It may not be necessary to place it on the truck, but if you have the rack available, why not...that's what it was designed for. As for taking the ride apart to re-theme it, how else would they do it? Just leave it up and change everything on the fly?

By taking it down, they make it much easier to theme (I'm not saying that is what's happening because I have no clue and could honestly care less). Try repainting while the thing is assembled. Also, they could do some refurbishment as well while it is apart, once again....much easier from a maintanence stand point.

Blue train was down on S:ROS. Thanx for the asnwers.

I am the TickTockMan

I received confirmation tonight from my main supervisor that the Bobs are staying. Apparently, a major part needed replacing that required tearing the ride apart to get to it. I think the people who are speculating that the ride will be rethemed are wrong. Since it's a portable ride, I would expect to see it put back together soon, as most portables only take a few hours to put together.

Prabe, I experienced some of the same one-training at Kennywood the other day. The lift for Phantom's Revenge is aggravatingly slow, so it sucks when they are running one train. They added the 2nd train on, and then took it off when we wanted to ride later in the night. So its not just a Six Flags thing.

Mammosh, I never claimed the park was getting a new ride. The only ride that I've ever had before anyone else was Batwing, and that was by sheer luck that I was standing in front of man who worked for the park who had loose lips. As for the Bobs removal, I did ask a supervisor about it first, and he apparently misunderstood my question. Consider this topic closed.
