Gotham City loses ride @ SFA

The Alpine Bobs (aka Penguin's Polar Express until this year) at SFA will be gone, most likely by tommorow. A tractor trailer from Chance was on site and the cars had been racked already. R.I.P. Frightfest 1999-July 2003. No word on a replacement, if any.

See my last post. It's staying.

It was next to JJ's entrance & was one of my favorite flats in the park.

I first heard about it on the boards at SFN,but I'm not suprised because the last few times I've been in the area it's always been closed.

First sky escaper, now alpine bobs is gone so what's next to go, I mean is nothing sacred anymore?

The yellow spinning flat? Underneath the sky dive?

No it's not the roundup called Riddle Me This. It was basically a Musik Express with cars that could spin out like on a suspended coaster, once up to speed. Alpine Bobs was quite popular with the kiddies, but it did always look odd in Gotham City. Maybe we'll get one of those nice new shiny Chance Morgan Revolutions in its place. Hey, one can hope, can't they?

I like six flags america. Six Flags great Adventure is closer to my house but I'd rather drive to SFA anyday. Unless SFGA was empty. I hate the ingorant people there and its crowded and the ride host suck! I hope they get a B&M Floorless next year!

The Alpine Bobs is probably the one ride I'd forget if asked to list all the rides at SFA. Never ridden it, never cared to. If I hadn't heard they were removing it, and I went there tomorrow to find a Dippin' Dots stand there, I probably wouldn't even notice.

Maybe they're clearing the area for that B&M standup that's been rumored for the last 4 years. ;)

I thought that Batwing essentially replaced the plans for the B&M stand-up?

I was joking. I'd be the first to tell you that the standup 'fad' is over.

I just hope that this removal is because something new is planned for the area. Gotham City needs more rides, not less. Things are still pretty wide open along the walk back to Superman and Batwing. I'm a bit surprosed at this removal since PPE usually seemed to attract a fair number of customers.

Maybe a B&M Batman inverted coaster!

Its either gone for good. Or being moved to another section of the park for a new ride to go into that area. who knows. I hope its a delirium (PKI).

Benz pedal to the metal, hotter than a tea kettle"

Hmm...maybe one of the higher-ups at SFA had a blinding flash of insight and realized, "Gee, this ride doesn't fit the Batman theme." I hope a new ride goes in the area, because "Gotham City Light" already looks sparse enough as it is.

I put the "D" in DDR.

YOu wouldn't want a Huss Delirium, you'd want a Huss Giant Frisbee.

An Alpine Bobs is essentially a "Poor Mans Matterhorn"Due to the way the sweeps are designed, the thing bounces like mad and really isn't all that interesting.

The ride consists of 24 tubs suspended from sweeps that connect to the center. The tub sweeps ride along a circular track with dips, so they go up and down like a Musik Express or Himilaya, except the fact that they are suspended, so as the ride generates more speed, the tubs will fly out like a Suspended Coaster

Alpine Bobs is NOT leaving

REPEAT

NOT Leaving

The ride needs some immediate work, and the best place to place the off loaded parts is on the trailer it came in on.

Or if you want an actual pic of SFA's Alpine Bobs you could always look my way :)

I have to say it seemed very S-L-O-W and I don't do well on spinny rides, but this didn't bug me at all.

Dorney Park Visits in 2003: 15

Well I posted on SFN that i believe that this ride was removed because a few years back i think it was on a page of Sam Marks that there was plans for a path the went from right there behind JJ to the path that connects Batwing and Superman and that it had three flats on it as well and a building in the blue Print. It was posted back in 01 i think on Coaster-net.com. When the site reopens on the 1st i will check to see if i can find more info. BUt this is the closest thing i could think of.
Maybe because Gotham Cioty is badly themed they are taking the ride down and rethemeing it to fit in even better. Maybe its the start of a huge Gotham City Rehab!
