Good Coaster Names

Ghostrider

it just seems to fit so well

I always liked raptor and I like the name they were gonna call Mantis, which is banshee, but I guess you gotta be "pc" nowadays!
Not sure why ToC was so named, but I'm pretty sure they changed the name when adding the Skull and the vertical loops...Maybe ToC was (first year of inversions, not sure which coaster was first) in some way paying homage to the "Turn of the Century" loopers of the early 1900's...(Lina Beechler, Flip Flap Railway, Sea Lion Park is one).  Now that would have been the time for Mackey and the CPSC to have gotten involved in park safety!

Yes I'm biased when I say Millennium Force. Although the name would only work now. If a coaster called Millennium whatever opened in 90 of course it wouldn't make sense. But the name just goes with the time. And the Force part, thats just intimidating :)

• The Legend
• HyperSonic XLC
• V2 : Vertical Velocity
• Raptor
• Mantis
• Deja Vu
• Volcano : The Blast Coaster
• Shivering Timbers
• Alpengeist
• Ninja
• Raging Bull
• Desperado
• Stealth

I think with corporate ownership being so prevalent in parks, either Pepsi or Coke should open their own park and call the signature coaster the "Cola Roaster".

Thank you, Mrs. Malaprop.

I need a vacation to recuperate from my vacation!

On the ToC question, I always had the impression that it had been named that since in its day, inversions were still novel (for most people who rode ToC, it was probably their first inverting coaster).  Also, the name fit the early 1900s Americana theming of the Hometown Square and County Fair areas of Marriott's Great America, so I guess, like Revolution, it was a pun of sorts.

Yes, MGA changed ToC's name to Demon in 1980 when the orginal camelback layout was replaced by the double vertical loops.

I'd like to see some botanical names for rides.  There are a lot of possibilities.  Blazing Star for instance.  A beautiful plant that opens up very interesting landscaping possibilities.

How about VENUS FLYTRAP. It looks hrmless enough,  but it will eat you alive!
In reality, I like the name Twisted Sisters. :-)

Raptor and Mantis.  Banshee...even though it was never used for mantis.  Steel Phantom and Phantoms revenge.  Jack Rabbit (kennywood)...it just fits it so well.  Magnum XL-200.  The Beast, it realy is a massive beast.  Shivering Timmbers is good too.
Gotta give props to my home park on this one
Thunder Road and White Lightnin are great names
If I could built a coaster I would name it Lucifer.  Not that I'm a satanist but the name just sounds intimidating
I like the names Talon, Mamba, Montu, Kraken, and Nitro.

Some original names I came up with are The Unknown; this coaster would be really mysterious, Talos (the name of a greek titan); a hyper coaster, Chimera; a floorless or sitdown coaster, and Night Creature; inverted coaster.

I have to say Steel Phantom or Phantom's Revenge, whats next, the Phantom's Curse? On a side note, I think "Steel Monster" or "SpitFire" would be great names too.
Also, I almost forgot, I think a good name for a woodie would be "White Knuckle."

I may have mentioned this before, but I think your name would make a great coaster name: Wabash Cannonball. Too bad they already use it for a different ride at IB.

Yeeee Haaawwww!
I really like the names that Anheuser-Busch comes up with for the coasters in their parks. Kumba, Montu, Gwazi, Apollo's Chariot, Alpengeist, Kraken -- these aren't names that are going to be duplicated over and over again.
