German news article about Stengel and SFGADV

Son of Beast is already 215ft. They'll have to go larger than a little over 200ft. to get the record.

A plug and play Intamin woodie might be able to go higher than SOB and still be rideable. But I wonder how long these wood tracks are keeping their supposed "smooth as steel" feeling...
I wonder how Colossos is holding up after its 4 years.
Arent tall woodies like that a conceptual mistake?
And also, I doubt that SF is really willing to pour that much money into one single park.

I am having issues with the link too.

Thanks,

You forgot to mention 2005 for SFMM -Nothing!! *** Edited 5/18/2005 7:02:20 PM UTC by Godsentone***

I've heard that Colossos is holding up pretty well. The "plug and play" track system is supposed to make the coasters simple to maintain so I don't see why they'd get rough, especially after only a few seasons.
^I have ridden it last week and its still gorgeous! The only thing you feel in some spot are the track joints, but those ain´t rough.

Colossos actually runs smoother than most Intamin Steel Hypers! It should be sad If it wasn´t that much fun!

According to the Article the ride design is more Colossos than Balder. IMO the park would benedit more from a wooden twister. The have enough Out and Back already.

To comment on the members who think only out & back is possible...you are wrong.

The lasercut track can be compared to regular steel track segments...anything is possible. Overbanked turns, high speed helixes, zigzags, bückel hills, etc.

However, the main objective was to create a track system that provides a smooth ride, with low maintenance cost.
Two of the biggest requests of parks worldwide.

I didn't see anyone saying that an O-n-B was the only design *possible*, just that those were what HAS been built with the PnP system.

Myself, I can't imagine that RT is going anywhere....this new coaster will almost certinaly be "the wooden twister" at GAdv. The only thing is, why would someone waste time waiting for a ratty old run-down POS like RT when there's a gorgeous new woodie that (presumably) will run 1000x better, and it's RIGHT NEXT DOOR...;)

The article seems to imply that it will be built in the style of Colossos. That's why most people are considering a mega out and back design.

You are correct though. Intamin can do all sorts of elements with their pre-fabricated track. :D

Considering the location of Rolling Thunder to Viper, what if it were the end of the line for Rolling Thunder as well?
Wow, I'm suprised, you would think they would let Ka ride out as the top dawg for a while.

Hopefully this publicity early on doesn't hurt them....I know this news cancels any trips I had planned there this year and pushes them back to 2006 for sure.
