Geauga Lake's X-Flight being relocated to another park

Posted | Contributed by Goccvp1

Workers recently started taking down X-Flight from its Geauga Lake location along Ohio 43 near the park's front gate, said Bryan Edwards, a Geauga Lake spokesman. The ride is destined for another park owned by Cedar Fair LP, the parent company of Geauga Lake.

Could be worse, Ckid85...you could live in Des Moines. The park there, Adventureland, got their last coaster in 1996...and it's more of a dark ride than a coaster! The last real coaster, Outlaw, was 1993.

MIA makes the most sense. We Michiganians are easily entertained. Adding a unique coaster like X will fill yet another gap at MIA. The gap being having any type of decent amusement attractions. Look at what used rides from CP have done for the park already. We have kiddie go carts and bumper cars. X will most logically be relocated to MIA due to budget and attendance compared to other parks. I believe it will be a low budget "test" of the maintenance abilities of MIA. If they can understand and maintain this ride it would be a nice advancement for the park. When you all talk about how MIA can't maintain such a ride I think you overlook the fact that 3-4 rides were not operational each day before CF purchased the park. Big advancements deserve some kind of reward. Even though the ride sucks, it will be an improvement to MIA. The most you can go upside down right now at MIA on a coaster is twice.

It costs a lot to maintain the ride, and I dont think its in Mia's budget.
Mamoosh said yea Adventureland hasent got a coaster since 1996

Yea Adventureland isnt owned by Cf. MIA is and they havent got nothing of thrill since the buy out! And whats with the name FUN!*** This post was edited by Coasterkid85 11/26/2006 7:10:37 PM ***

what does Cedar Fair owning MiA have to do with anything, CoasterKid? if it proved to be fruitful for generating income, then MiA will get XFlight, ok? but they wont get it because you're mad that you havnt gotten a thrill ride since the late 90's...the fact is, most of the time, small parks are not going to get big, expensive thrills, simply because the money just isnt there in their budgets. i have been to MiA in the heat of summer, and trust me...the park just isnt crowded. its a GREAT park, and yes, a nice thrilling steel coaster would be a great addition, but on paper, does it seem like a good idea?

and what do u mean "whats with the name FUN!"; FUN is the abbreviation for CF's listing on the NYSE.

Jeff, can you set an age restriction on the business related threads? lol jk, im merely venting:)

MiA cannot afford to maintain X-Flight.
"The GP would probably knock off Dominator, and Double Loop. These aren't the people that ride roller coasters all day either." - taken from Ilovethe'vu

Ok then Riddle me this... Why do people marathon on Dominator? Why do people run STRAIGHT for Dominator when the gate opens? Because they feel like running to a big roller coaster? NO! Dominator is a crowd favorite...

I could see MIA getting Head Spin, but not X-Flight. My guess is PKI, though WOF could do well with it, too.
JoelWhy, what news station did you hear that on?
What about Knott's?
^KBF doesn't have the room for it.
.....I talk to people who have lived here in Los Angeles all their lives and could not describe the newest coasters at SFMM, KBF...or heck even Disneyland! I doubt that's unusual and suspect many of PKI's guests have never even heard of Geauga Lake, let alone X-Flight.

You're probably right. I think we need to remember that most people outside of the coaster enthusiast community are probably not as familiar with the different types of coasters out there, or what makes a coaster especially noteworthy - so when they see something different and unfamiliar come into a park, they consider it new and exciting. We may think X-Flight is a somewhat nondescript ride compared to other coasters out there, but to people in SW Ohio it would be a big deal. When my older brother (who is 44) rode Avatar for the first time, he thought it was the neatest thing since sliced bread. Now throw in the concept of a full-circuit coaster where you recline and feel like you are flying, and he would be incredibly impressed. But to people in the coaster enthusiast community, it seems like another humdrum ride with capacity issues.

The leaders in the industry aren't stupid, and they aren't going to locate a coaster to a park where they don't think people will ride it. Whenever PKI gets a new coaster, it is played up in the local Cincinnati news and made to sound like the latest step in the evolution of coaster design. It's a big deal to the general public who have never experienced something like it before. It would be ridden, and appreciated, by Cincinnati people (and yes, me too, because I know how much PKI needs something like this) - who are especially proud of having PKI in their backyard.

I dont think GL should get rid Dominator it's like the best ride their.
Maybe geauga lake is going to put it in storage for a year, and then relocate it to the old water park, instead of moving it to another park.
Come on guys this is OHIO not MISSOURI. The people in the state of OHIO don't travel to all of the parks in the state in one year like in MISSOURI.

I can't help it if the people in MISSOURI like to travel and like amusement parks. Some states just have better people who understand the need for amusement parks. :)

I still say give it to Worlds of Fun. We have the room and it is not like you would have to do much infrastructure to install it since we have quite a bit of flat land you could put it on. PKI doesn't need another coaster -- especially this one considering the headaches they already have with SOB. The last thing they need at PKI right now is a capacity nightmare coaster -- they already have that with IJ:ST.

It was brought to our attention by someone working on the project that the parts they were dismantling were being boxed and tagged for Cincinnati. That probably provides a clue as to where the ride is headed.
MIA deserves this coaster because they have the land. They have the money. They have the guest coming to the park. They need the next big thing a flying coaster. NO more wood and mouse coasters and water rides, give MIA a reall coaster, CF hasent done nothing exept water rides. So I really beleve their going to get this coaster. By the way all the other CF parks got coasters in the last 8 years.
^Well could it be that perhaps CF thought MiA was lacking in water rides outside of the waterpark? There is NO WAY that this coaster is going to MiA.
^^Right now MiAdv doesn't need a coaster, what they need is a solid thrill ride such as a Huss Top Spin, Screamin swing, or even some kind of Power Tower, but not a coaster quite yet. Look for a Intamin in 08 that may be identical to CP's WT on a new path behind Wolverine. Although X-Flight wouldn't look bad next to Grand Rapids, it would be cool to fly in and out of the trees, there is certenly enough land back there. Really there are only 2 that come to mind PKI and MA , who knows where it will go.
