Geauga Lake's X-Flight being relocated to another park

Posted | Contributed by Goccvp1

Workers recently started taking down X-Flight from its Geauga Lake location along Ohio 43 near the park's front gate, said Bryan Edwards, a Geauga Lake spokesman. The ride is destined for another park owned by Cedar Fair LP, the parent company of Geauga Lake.

Tomb Raider from PCW to MiA, X-Flight to PCW, problem solved...

Why don't they just come to me in the first place...would save them a season getting Steel Venom down to Charlotte... :)

I'm with Dave on the naming. I'll never understand why they went with "Six Flags Ohio," and then worse, "Six Flags Worlds of Adventure" the very next year. How do you ignore that generations of people knew "Geauga Lake?"
So, when Vekoma developed the Flying Dutchman roller coaster, do you think it was in the plans for them to fly, or migrate, from park to park?
Well you look at it this way PCW has a flyer <crappy as it may be> so my best guesses would be either dorney,WOF, MIA,PKI or PKD.....granted SFA's got the exact same ride some 2 hours to the north<that was originally intended for PKD to begin with> but they also both have premier LIM launchers as well.

What was SF thinking when they put JJ in? did they not realize that PKD already had an exact clone of the ride built some three seasons earlier? I guess not.

What with Renegade being added I don't see VF as a contender to recieve X-Flight,although they might just keep it in storage for a while before deciding on what park to send it to.

I'm guessing either MiA or PKI... As much as I would love to see it come to Dorney, it's not exactly a quiet ride and I don't think they'd get it past the township planning board :(
Its going to dorney, its the place that makes the most sense. The area down near lazer needs something, while the cap issues of the ride would not be a problem at dorney. Also there are no such coasters in the near area.
Is this the first you've heard of this?
It's going to Kings Island.
Anyone that visited the park the last weekend might remember something being done by FOF?
I'm not speculating.. I know.

Dave said: " I am convinced, especially after what happened to AstroWorld, that Burke and Story were driven almost entirely by ego, not at all by a good sense of how to run amusement parks."

My coaster count is bigger than YOURS, so nyah...

Seriously, did those guys go to "business school" on the playground? ROFL! ;)

On to the name-chaing thing brought up by Dave and Jeff: Ignoring the *generations* of people who knew Geauga Lake effectively cut off the park from its past, and the people who had attended the park in the past. "This is the first roller coaster grandma ever rode, back when she was dating your grandfather 50 years ago"....no coaster count in the world can replace the kind of customer loyalty that develops over time - and keeps a business afloat in the "tough times"...

Haha and nobody believed me!

Sad to see it go however :(

BatwingFanSFA, why are you complaining about Joker's Jinx? It's a far superior ride to either of the Flight of Fear's in right quality. Apparently, on the second go-around they made things a whole lot smoother. That we determined both at a) BeastBuzz, b) ACE Day in October, and c) my own findings at Fiesta Texas in 02'

So why would they put it in? a) it's outside, not inside b) it's a popular ride c) not that many people are aware that they are the same ride outside of us enthusiasts and d) It gives Premier whose headquarters are literally right down the road (about thirty-minutes away) a ride to demonstrate for clients.

Hmmm...did anyone else read that rumor about Batwing not opening for 07'? I'd believe it as the trains were a total mess on Labor Day.

Since Im going to Worlds of Fun this upcoming summer, I hope the ride goes there so I can get another coaster credit.
Send it to Worlds of Fun! As much as I dislike the low capacity of flying dutchman coasters it would be a "novel" ride to the area.

I however do not see it coming here though as we have heard numerous times from their PR staff that we are not getting a coaster in 2007 -- however things always change.

^ IF you were to be getting it (and I doubt you will, but I've been wrong before - and will again)...wouldn't it be a big enough project to make the ride an '08 installation...

Or is WoF already going to be *busy* during the '07 offseason... ;)

bill, frequently crosses the threads....and the line... :)

What would be the object of it going to PKI, GL and PKI are about the same distance from CP and near major highways. PKI already has a great attendance base and is better known for its family atmosphere. I can see MIA getting it, they need another steel coaster. Do we think this move is intended to only benefit GL and maybe CP or also the recieving park?

I would guess it's going to either Kings Island or Can. Wond.

Is it actually supposed to be operating at all in 2007 at it's new home?

I really hope it goes to PKI. They need something back there by FOF; maybe they could develop a new space-themed section back there!

We all know Canada's Wonderland has a flying coaster already, known as Tomb Raider. That coaster is PROBABLY popular with the general public, despite it being a FACT that it's rough and a friggin' head banger.

Would they add another flying coaster? Ida know... but they could really use a high-profile coaster, especially if they were to replace Drachen Fire. If not that, then they should at least relocate Steel Venom's problems & give it to Canada's Wonderland because they could use a nice Intamin coaster. It may give cheap thrills... but damn... they're the highest attended park in the "cedar fair" chain now... I think even besting Kings Island.

Id like to see MiAdv get it because they can justify something so big now IMO, or Dorney because its my home park lol. PKI has a bunch of larger coasters already, and how many people kept complaining that Six Flags kept putting their eggs in one basket and not spreading them around. MiAdv many see as a park that deserves something, and X-Flight could be it.
I could see this going to PKI, especially if SOB is removed sometime in the future.
Kings Island seems most logical to me.

Canada's Wonderland already has a "flying" type coaster. Michigan's Adventure has attendance similar to the current attendance at Geagua Lake and therefore I do not think it would be in the running.

Cedar Point is getting Maverick. Worlds of Fun got Patriot in 2006. Valleyfair! is getting Renegade. Dorney got Hydra The Revenge in 2005 and seems to be getting some kind of slide for their waterpark in 2007. PGA got rid of this ride already and I doubt if it has the room. Carowinds already has a Vekoma flyer and Knott's Berry Farm is getting a spinning Mack coaster.

That leaves Kings Island and Kings Dominion. Kings Dominion already has modern coasters like Hypersonic SLC and Volcano: The Blast Coaster and seems to be upgrading their water park in 2007.

It seems to me that Kings Island makes the most sense... They are located close to Geauga Lake, but I would think that most of the people who visit Kings Island have not been to Geagua Lake and will view this as a new and exciting addition, even though we enthusiasts may see it differently. Kings Island has not had a major coaster since 2000 and there are some reports of activity taking place near the edge of the park near FOF.I say it will be Kings Island!
