Geauga Lake's X-Flight being relocated to another park

Posted | Contributed by Goccvp1

Workers recently started taking down X-Flight from its Geauga Lake location along Ohio 43 near the park's front gate, said Bryan Edwards, a Geauga Lake spokesman. The ride is destined for another park owned by Cedar Fair LP, the parent company of Geauga Lake.

I don't think Dorney would have a problem with it....the loudest part of the ride is the lift due to the anti rollbacks.

I-Fan: I was down at SFA on labor day & I don't specifically recall Batwing having any major problems that day, then again it was close to three months ago.Still based on my last visit in early october supes appeared to be having far more problems than Batwing was that day.I don't know if the rumor is true<I hope not> but then again look at how quick Shapiro was in deciding that the eagle had to be scrapped after hearing of it's less than stellar performance record in it's final years.

Now if only they'd do something about what's left of the enterprise.....I just hate walking down that midway & seeing just a shell of the ride still sitting there with a giant fence around it.

I don't even want to think about the lines that it would create at Kings Island.
There is a big empty spot between Timbers and Rapids ride where the train does that big loop around nothing . Throw in a concrete path, restroom, a few game and food stands and a new/ used not to mention free coaster and you have a new section of the park not to mention a loop around the lake.
It would be strange if it went to Bonfante. I really don't see that happening (I've been wrong before) and think it would ruin the unique atmosphere there. Let's all keep our fingers crossed it doesn't go there.
Well considering PCW just decided to get rid of a BRAND new stunt show (Which was in the parking lot) I would hope X-FLIGHT could be a brand new parking-lot coaster for pcw. Hell they do have the room there, but then they WILL have a parking problem as PCW's lot is ALWAYS full right to the back almost everyday throughout the summer.
Well on the local Columbus, Ohio news they said tonight that Cedar Fair will invest millions to Geauga Lake in attempts to boost that pathetic attenfance. So as X-Flight bids farewell to Geauga Lake, "millions of dollars" of Cedar Fair's money is saying hello. Let's hope they put it to some good use on that water park and clean up Hannah's and the surrounding ghetto in the park!
I know that they need to remove some things to make the park profitable or whatever. Yeah, the ride costs a lot to maintain, but it was also one of the only rides making it distinguishable from Cedar Point. It was also one of my favorite rides at the park. I'm not going to be suprised if they remove Steel Venom as well, I would think that the amount of electricity used, it would cost just as much to run and doesnt seem to be a very popular ride at the park since barely anyone goes on it. They better do SOMETHING to make this park better. Because the way it is looking right now, if things don't improve,. I can definately see this park getting closed down.
If Geauga Lake is going to make it, they need to

1) take down most of the major coasters

2) throw in a spinning coaster and other family style coasters

3) throw in a dark ride

5) throw in a ton of flats

6) have unique shows other than song and dance shows

KBF, PKI, CP, PCW, and I believe PKD are CF's busiest parks. The capacity this ride produces isn't on par on what is needed at any of those parks.

It's still so new to think about all those Paramount parks under Cedar Fair's name. I'm still getting used to it.

How about bringing back Sea World which is why this whole mess started.
Wicked Twister doesn't have what I'd call a huge capacity, yet it seems to fit well with CP's roster of rides. Maverick probably won't burn it up with rider through-put either, but that didn't seem to stop CF from making that choice.
With the removal of two more rides (one of them a headliner attraction) and assuming that nothing new will added to the park, plus a shorter season, I think we will almost certainly see another attendance drop for the park, no matter how 'smart' a business move this is.

They already have a flying coaster at pcw, so I doubt it will end up there.
Ok just for the hell of it, how about sending Carowinds the in line twists and the final helix and scrapping the corkscrews on Borg. I might ride that piece of crap again. Scrap the rest of this assembly line junk.

Oh yea, DIBS ON DOMINATOR*** This post was edited by john13601 11/22/2006 8:57:42 PM ***

Maybe they should take out 3 things and build 4? j/k

CF prides itself on ride uptime. Xflight is a downtime monster.

It's obvious that simply running a park well isn't what the GP wants in order to get attendance up. Pull XF build an entrance plaza in a grand CF style (like Dorneys) and add "good" entertainment and some concerts that would bring people into the park that wouldn't come otherwise. Season pass discounts, and a REAL sit down restaurant where people can get warm when it's cool, and cool when it's warm. The restaurant over the pool has got to go.

just my opinion

Oh god....

I can see a "coasters" restaurant being built in x flights spot.

Since when is Dorney's entrance plaza grand, more like generic and uninspired. Cedar Fair-when in doubt flatten it and lay down some concrete.

yeah Dorney's entrance is rather un-inspired I must say. Clean, but un-inspired. lol CH I was actually thinking when are they going to slap in a signature coasters drive in at Geauga.

As much I dislike (most) six flags parks, they have some really nice looking entrance midways.
To SFDL's comment above, PCW's stunt show was never meant to last more than one season. It was marketed and advertised as "This Year Only". The entire concept was to make one investment and move it from park to park to get a big bang from the money spent. I think it's a great idea when you have a chain of parks and can use the capital dollars wisely.

As for room, no, Wonderland doesn't have the space for ride with the layout of X-Flight, and I can't see them putting it in the parking lot.
