Geauga Lake to remove a "Classic Ride"

Bill Spehn said as much at CoasterEXT. They're not going to separate out the waterpark as a second gate. Just the same as they haven't separated out the waterpark as a second gate at Dorney Park.

Yes, the waterparks are separate at Cedar Point, Knott's, and Worlds of Fun. They are included at Geauga Lake, Michigan's Adventure, and Dorney Park.

Looks to me like there is no concensus to the way Cedar Fair handles its waterparks. :)

Sorry to start the silly side-debate and thanks for the info RideMan, I didn't know that. :)

Something caught my attention, what would be considered classic? 8-9 years, 15-20? I would go with monorail...seeing how its been the longest out of hydes and scyscaper...or at least it should be.

Does the monorail really *go* anywhere other than around that small portion of the park? While perhaps "state-of-the-art" and "Disneylike" when it opened it seems senseless to keep now.
Nope its a useless slow, old, possibly classic circle built, go nowhere monorail.
I bet they install a new Monorail that gets you from A to B. Not sure the exact mapping they would use for it, but it could work.
I wish there was a confirmation on this rumor....What is classic though?

I have a hard time believing they'd add a new monorail. A shuttle monorail from the far corner of the park (HH) to the other corner (new waterpark) over a bit of the lake to get around the housing development would kinda make sense, but I can't imagine the cost of a full circuit monorail that would go around the whole park (or lake) and would do little to draw additional crowds. It just doesn't make sense.

Does Dominator count as a classic? What about X-Flight?
Saddly I have not been to GL since CF bought it. I havn't found time. (yet I found time for Cedar Point)... and I visit Cleveland. The thing is, Visiting for a short time... I want the big one. And maybe that is what is going thruogh other people's minds (that live there). To tell you the truth, I saw more Cedar Point Adds on TV, then Geauga Lake adds. Also, why don't people understand that GL is the olf SF. Because it is keeping the name it had several years ago. And people still refered to Six Flags as Geauga Lake. So I don't think it is a problem with people not realizing it was the old SFWoA. But yet, I don't know. I moved out of Cleveland in 2000, and have been visiting about every other month since.

EagleFan344, what is wrong with Dominator and X-Flight? They are perfect rides... *** Edited 7/2/2005 6:30:29 AM UTC by Keith2005***

please tell me where I said anything about a full circuit Monorail. I said from A to B. which would be some type of ride to either take you from the north side to happy harbor and back, or across the lake where the boardwalk use to be.

You didn't, but I was giving the two extremes (small shuttle or large full-circuit), and pointed out that I felt even the smaller/cheaper end of the spectrum was unlikely.

When was the last time a large transportation-based ride was built long after the park had been opened? A few decades ago that was common when chairlifts, trains, and occasionally monorails were constructed, but is that done often anymore? I can't think of any examples, and I can't search rcdb for rides like this. What are the odds that GL breaks that trend?

I'll have to agree with CincyDJ. Besides the novelty of riding a monorail or land based train there just isn't a purpose for the current one and there is not that many people to move around the park at this time either to support building a people mover.

I wouldn't be against a chair lift along and possibly over the water at parts (sort of where they used to have it back in the day), if I may add.

There would be a chance of a transport ride, but theres just a better chance of it being romoved permnanently and being replaced with a thrill ride of some sort.

Floorless Fan said: But if I remember right, when SF owned GL the city of Aurora rode them constantly about their aspirations to put in a hyper because of noise, and because a large hyper could be an eyesore,

Sorry to bring this topic back up but SF did have an agreement with Bainbridge Township, back in 2002 I believe, to raise the height limit to 210 feet in order to put in the proposed hyper. Of course this meant creating "no ride zones" whereas the park could not build rides in certain areas close to residential property. I would think this agreement is still in place now that CF has the property.

Yes, Aurora made a stink about it but SF did get the okay to do it. There were even rumors that possibly the height limit was raised a few feet higher. An S&S tower complex like Dorney's Dominator or Intamin Giant Drop like Kennywood's Pittfall could be put in but would have to be properly placed as to not infringe on the agreement with Bainbridge.

X Factor

It would depend upon how the agreement was written. It may have been transferable to the new owner, or it may have become null and void with the transfer of title. The latter would necessitate renegotiating the agreement.
I do not think Cedar Fair would get rid of the Big Dipper because that ride has been there for decades. Plus I do not think that Cedar Fair to Have ACE members boycott Geauga Lake or any other Cedar Fair park because of them removing a classic ride.

Cedar Fair would not get rid of Mr. Hides Nasty Fall because rumor has it that Cedar Fair made it safer. My friend was at Geauga Lake recently and said the ride was good. If any thing I would say that the Monerail and/or the Skyscraper would go. Most deffenetly it would be the Monerail because it is kind of lame. *** Edited 7/6/2005 2:16:13 AM UTC by mean streak 2007*** *** Edited 7/6/2005 2:18:58 AM UTC by mean streak 2007***

^ Safer?

Like how, they don't let them go crashing into the lake anymore? *blink*

Someone, please, tell me what a Monerail is!
It is like a train but it takes you on a tour of Geauga Lake and it is above ground and it dose not have a conducter it is run by a ride pannel like a coaster. In some cases it is used for shuutle service at Epcott Center at Disney World
